Need a Jack's Bistro-like restaurant

Peter's is my fave, but if you've tried that then maybe take a look at Abacrombie or the retooled Corks

Go for Amicci's or La Scala

Elevation Burger. let's see how this one stacks up.

I tried it out today, ordered a cheeseburger with Elevation's original toppings and a side of fries. While I can appreciate the "healthier" options that Elevation offers (organic beef, veggie burgers, olive oil fries), I just didn't find them all that flavorful. It'll be a great place to take the Mrs. when she gets the urge for a veggie burger, but I'll stick with Five Guys when I get my burger cravings. It's great that Harbor East has another option for quick eats, however, and I truly hope that the place is successful.

Isabella's in Baltimore's Little Italy

I agree with jfish, their subs are great! The office hits them up a lot for lunch and they have some tasty sandwiches, the Vesuvio, Porchetta & Italian cold cut are terrific, meats sliced to order and fresh mozz. The chef salad is delicious, as well. Such a great little shop, and the staff really has their heart into the place. Oh man, I might have to run over there for dinner now. I'd like to hear from someone who's tried the pizzas.

Beer

Mahaffey's is my favorite beer place, not as overwhelming with the choices as Max's, but still plenty of good beer on hand, not to mention the fun that Wayne brings to the place. Jack's Bistro has a nice varied selection as well if you've never tested the place out.

Any Hibachi Grills in Baltamore?

I don't know of any downtown, the only one I can think of is Kobe on the Avenue in White Marsh.

Baltimore Steak Wars....Who Ya Got?

I'd venture a guess that pleiades is referring to The Prime Rib in a more colloquial sense.

Baltimore Steak Wars....Who Ya Got?

Living on the east side I've tended to stick to Fleming's & Cap Grill, both of which I've enjoyed and think are pretty comparable. Anytime I've done the expense account dinners, whether here or abroad, Cap Grill tends to get the nod unless there's a well known local option (which is what I wish we had here. Or maybe The Prime Rib fits that bill?).

I mean, a chain steakhouse is a chain steakhouse, you pretty much know what to expect when you head in. That said, I've never understood having two Ruth's Chris locations within a few minutes walk of each other, so I don't see how both of those can continue to prosper. I've heard unsubstantiated whispers that Morton's is already in a precarious position, but I doubt it'll be going anywhere. All the conventions that come through Baltimore keep these places humming.

b bars in Baltimore

I remembered "Bar" after I made my suggestions, but that's a whole different world of drinking there. I also forgot Bad Decisions in Fells across from Ale Mary's. I guess the question is if the OP is looking for food along with the drinks, or is this just an occasion to imbibe at some of Baltimore's memorable drinking holes?

b bars in Baltimore

In Fells Point you've got Birds of a Feather (the Scotch bar), Blarneystone and Brass Monkey. Then headed over to Canton/Brewers Hill you've got Bartenders, Bleachers, Baltimore Tap House (formerly Growlers) & Brewers Hill Pub. Personally, I'd go with Bartenders on Boston Street. Aside from being a fun bar they put out some pretty tasty pizza, too.

craving ethiopian food in baltimore

Since the Sunlight Lounge on Eastern closed a few years back, I don't know of any other options aside from Dukem. I'd like to hear of alternatives, as well.

Baltimore diner needs new recs!

Your faves match up with mine and I agree wholeheartedly with the Peter's Inn and Annabel Lee suggestions, so hit those up if you haven't already. Other places around town, though not in Canton that you might want to venture out for are Chameleon Cafe & Hamilton Tavern on Harford Rd, Abacrombie over by the Meyerhoff, Ze Mean Bean in Fells, and Baltimore Pho over at Hollins Market. All relaxed places with great food.

Sotto Sopra, maybe? Though I also agree with the Abacrombie suggestion.

Classic Baltimore diners?

Jimmy's in Fells Point for breakfast, and G&A Restaurant on Eastern Ave in Highlandtown for lunch. G&A was featured on a recent Diners, Drive-ins & Dives episode.

Pho in the Baltimore area?

Yeah, Baltimore Pho is probably the closest to downtown, and I've enjoyed it the times I've been there, so don't be quick to wipe it off your list. There are other options closer to the holes in the wall you're used to out in the suburbs, but not sure if you're looking to leave the area or not. Here's a previous thread on the subject:

Searching for nyc style pizza in Baltimore

Yeah, Pasta Mista and Tutti Gusti are both in Canton and come close, but to be honest, it's not fair to search for NYC pizza in Baltimore. There's a reason it's NYC pizza, Baltimore joints tend to have their own take on pie, ie Matthew's, Joe Squared and Lucas Cafe.

Any good Sunday Brunch Buffets in Bmore?

It's been a while since I've been, but the Marriott Waterfront in Harbor East used to have a pretty nice brunch buffett. Worth looking into.

Grits?

Well, that's most of the fun of grits, isn't it? If you can't doctor them up to your liking, whether they be of the sweet or savory variety, it's no fun for me. While I appreciate a great grits dish straight from the kitchen, I much prefer to get a breakfast plate with eggs over easy, bacon & grits and make my own delicious mashed up plate. I could recommend some great jalapeno, smoked gouda & bacon grits here in Baltimore, but I don't know of anywhere down in DC.

Wine Bar in Fells Point?? Any Scoop?

Miss Irene's? Place has been under renovation for years now, it seems. Word on the street is that they've run out of money and likely won't be opening. Not under current ownership, at least. They've had their pretty website splash page up for a while now, missirenesbaltimore.com. Too bad it likely won't come to fruition.

Seafood Restaurant in Baltimore

I'd recommend Nick's Fish House for the before game meal. A fun place on the water a quick cab ride from Camden Yards. They've got a website that should give you a good idea of what they offer. If you're hoping more for walking distance, I suppose you could go the tourist route and hit Phillips at the Inner Harbor, but I really think with your group you'd enjoy yourselves more at Nick's. As for after the game, you can wander over to Federal Hill and take your pick of bars around Cross Street. Mother's, Magerk's, Stalking Horse, Ryleigh's are all good choices, but you'll pass plenty of options that should do you guys well.

Blue Pointe Grill in Ellicott City--is it closed?

I'm not sure if it's closed, but I had heard that a change in ownership was imminent, so it likely could be shut down for the changeover. Rumors also included that they'd be shuttering the Stone Cellar downstairs and using the space for storage, something I find unthinkable.

My Thai or Lemongrass Balto?

I had the same reservations going in to Lemongrass, but I'm happy to say that they were quickly allayed once I had my first bite of drunken noodle (or was it the panang curry?). I expected it to be overpriced, overhyped and all about how "cool" the space was. The space is very cool, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the food wasn't any more expensive than the mediocre offerings of other Thai establishments on the eastern side of town (I think our tab was around $60, which included app, 2 entrees and 2 cocktails per pp), and it was really good, to boot. Not to mention a great cocktail menu that you won't find elsewhere. Give it a shot, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

homemade ice cream Bmore

North Pole Ice Cream Co. on Eastern Ave. in Highlandtown serves Moxley's ice cream and has that old time ice cream counter feel to it. I always indulge in a great banana split when I'm there.

Baltimore area caterers?

We got married at the Baltimore Museum of Industry in August and used Absolutely Perfect as our caterer. The food was terrific and the service was unbeatable. Very easy to work with and Leslye will do anything you ask, we couldn't have been happier. But take your time and enjoy the process of finding who works best with you (and enjoy all the tastings!)

Jack's Bistro - what to get?

Yeah, that's the same spot, at the corner of Elliott and S. Robinson. The interior has been redone very nicely, repainted, new marble tiled floors and fun Shag artwork. As for Mangia/Blu, it's still sitting empty, I keep wondering when something else will take over that space.
