Restaurant Closings in 2013

I went by La Diabla to get my mole and salsa for a quick Mexican supper to find them closed. So unfortunate! I wish them the best with their local distribution and will look for their stuff at Jean-Talon market. Their homemade products and flavours are so unique and special (this is coming from someone who cooks most things from scratch). It's a good excuse for me to try La Boite Gourmande since I've never been.

Rhubarb in Winter?

Rachelle-Bery health food stores have frozen rhubarb (Stahlbush Island Farms in a brown bag).

Rhubarb in Winter?

It is December and I need rhubarb. Go figure. I don't think it's in season anywhere in the world, but have you seen frozen rhubarb around? Do they have it in cans?

Tibetan food

I've never been, it's just an internet search that told me about it. It's this Saturday from 10am-6pm, and Sunday from 11am-5pm.

Tibetan food

This weekend (24/25 Nov) there will be a "Tibetan Cultural Festival" and Bazaar at 60 Rachel West in Montreal. It will include shows, sales, and Tibetan food. There is an admission charge of $5 or $3. It should be "real deal" Tibetan.

Any recent feedback about the dim sum at Le Cristal Chinois on the top floor of the Swatow Plaza? Is it empty and quiet just spacious and relaxed?

Marché Jean-Talon becoming Loblaws

Yes, but there are stories about mislabeled things (e.g. Quebec garlic) and some of the booths sell and re-sell food from larger industrial operations. Sometimes sellers give you the answer you want to hear. In any case, I am happy to have learned more about the Ferme Jacques et Diane.

Marché Jean-Talon becoming Loblaws

Good to hear it's been resolved. I'm still concerned about exactly who grows the food and where it actually comes from at some of the stands.

Pig's khuckles.

A quick search for "knuckles" on this board in the past year alone: Brasserie Capri, Brasserie Du Sud, Brisket's, La Mere Clavet (lunch?), Mazurka (different style), etc.

Kid friendly places in Montreal

You'll be right in the middle of hotels and office towers, so no real neighbourhood places to speak of. I'd say bring cereal with you. How old are your kids? Type of food desired? How far do you want to walk? If you search "kids" you'll find similar threads for across the city.
I don't know the area well, but a quick look suggests Dunn's (on Metcalfe for smoked meat and deli foods) or the sprawling food court of Montreal Central train station. If food isn't a priority, go west towards the Bell Centre (hockey arena) to find some louder chain restaurants (Rotisserie St-Hubert, Baton Rouge, La Cage aux sports).

Best Mexican (Itacate or Maria Bonita?)

I agree, having been to each of them once. I'd say Maria Bonita is a bit darker, cozier, and more "traditional" looking with a longer menu of small and large plates. My memory suggests that the food and service quality could be higher there, as well. Both are tasty options in my book. (Try both and tell us!)

ISO Padron Peppers

I heard Birri at JTM had some Padron peppers. I like the sound of your substitute. The internet suggest shishito peppers, if you can find them.

San Francisco Style Burritos in Montreal

The best I've had lately is at Mexico Dans La Ville (4764 Papineau below Gilford). Their burritos are big fat ones with four filling options plus rice, beans, cheese(?), and a few vegetables inside as well. The varying salsas on the side are tasty, too. They are family-run and only open 5-8:30pm. Worth a detour.

5 days in Montreal - help us shorten our restaurant list!

BUT Fous Desserts is closed Sunday and Monday.
There are more and more coffee places to choose from, depending on your tastes. (Note: Café Névé and Flocon Espresso are related.)

I have seen it recently at Sakaris Supermarket on St-Laurent! Maybe Andes on Bélanger or Sabor Latino on St-Laurent could have it, too?

Cajun andouille sausages anywhere?

It seems the search for andouille continues (not French style andouillette). Here's a lead from 2007 at the "boucherie diagonally across from William P. Walter, the boucherie inside Atwater market that sells the sausages, bacon, and deli meats".
