Now called "Laurier 1936", no more Gordon Ramsay association. Will the chicken remain the same?

Opinion on best burger bun?

Cajun andouille sausages anywhere?

It seems the search for andouille continues (not French style andouillette). Here's a lead from 2007 at the "boucherie diagonally across from William P. Walter, the boucherie inside Atwater market that sells the sausages, bacon, and deli meats".

Dusty's up in smoke

That was funny.
(But, let us remember how serious fires could be, and think of the surrounding businesses and communities.)

Breton Cake (Kouing-amann) available in Montreal ?

Tricky spelling. Previously on chow: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/793244

Gingerbread mix?

I didn't see any at my local store when I went. Hope you've found it.

Gingerbread mix?

President's Choice makes one. I haven't noticed it specifically, but it's the house brand of the chain of Loblaws / Provigo / Maxi stores. Tis the season, but maybe they have it?

Tea

Here's a good place to start -- http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/804231
If you will drink a lot, loose leaf is the tastiest. All teas lose some flavour and nuance after a while once exposed to air. What amount are you looking for in bulk?

Beaubien and St-Denis area ?

El Chalateco is across from the Beaubien metro. It's homey Salvadorean food with a nice atmosphere and a fairly long menu. Call ahead to see if they can accommodate the group.

Restaurant Closings in 2011

Le Piton de La Fournaise on Duluth is closed.

"... the coffee/pastry place at the front of the Forum." Do you mean good ol' Pekarna??

New Outdoor Section @ Atwater Market

I read that Satay Brothers closed on 15 October for the season. Are other "new" stalls still open there?

Circuit du Paysan next weekend

There were (free) maps at Le Marché des Saveurs du Québec (Jean-Talon) a few weeks ago. Maybe they still have them?

Visiting Montreal this wkend -- looking for veg/vegan restaurant options

Other Question about BYO restaurants: certain strips have many BYO restaurants and usually a nearby wine-heavy SAQ (Quebec government wine and liquor store). They aren't usually open very late, but our dépanneurs (neighborhood convenience stores) sell bottles of "lesser" wines until 11pm and can be found all over. The restaurant will be able to send you in the right direction.

Yes! with a funky but bright "diner" decor. They serve all meals and snacks and smoothies, it can get busy but it's not a tiny place.

Visiting Montreal this wkend -- looking for veg/vegan restaurant options

From that excellently in-depth thread found at http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/775201. A lot of them are quick cafes with a relaxed vibe. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are uncomfortable or with poor service, though. More specifically:
1) Ba Le - quick bite
2) Bottega - sit down, tablecloth type
3) Lawrence - sit down, but relaxed
4) Chu Chai - sit down, with less formal option next door at Chuch
5) Crudessence - cafe atmosphere
6) Tasting menu places - fancier, longer meal. Note: Montee is now closed.

Other places that Looosia mentioned there are mostly casual, quicker joints (except the non-exclusively vegetarian restaurants P'tit Plateau, Gandhi, Atti, Le Nil Bleu, La Salle à Manger, Buvette Chez Simone, Casa Tapas, Philinos, and so forth). There are a lot of options listed there, any specific places that pique your interest?

Feel free to correct my oversights. I'll let someone else tackle the BYO/wine buying info.

La Diabla

The food is amazing! I have liked everything I've tried: interesting salsas, Mexican moles, oil cured olives, empanadas. The little shop is full of interesting sweet-savoury combinations, quality ingredients, unique gift -able items. It is food with a story. And there is a cafe part of the business, too, all served with heart&soul.

Stevia as a natural alternative to sugar

Stevia in plant form (in a pot with green leaves) has been popping up at plate purveyors. A little bit of the leaf goes a long way on the sweet highway. It goes very well with fruity things.

Sour cherry season?

Sour cherry season?

Noticed Ontario sour cherries at one fruit store on the south end, a few doors east of Nino.

Bella Vista

I, too, am so sad about this.

Anyone happen to notice some very fresh local rhubarb?

Missing Portugal in Montreal.....groceries, coffee shop, restos

There are a number of Portuguese family-run bakeries, butchers, and food stores along St-Laurent between Duluth and Villeneuve (as well as on Duluth and Rachel in the same area.)

When will the Alfonso and Kesar Mango Season Start and End?

Alfonsos were spotted in NY about a week ago. I assume we get them from the same purveyors.

Muvbox

Last year it opened on the 15th of May. There are reviews on this board from past seasons, there are fans and detractors.

The Main's SAQ is moving

It looks like they are on schedule to open. Unfortunately the multiple blocky modern SAQ signs detract from the look of the building exterior.

Easter weekend suggestions sought

The Montreal Mirror (freebie weekly newspaper) resto page indicates wheelchair accessibility at the end of the reviews, but I don't know if that includes all the facilities and such.
