The problem, unfortunately is with FN itself. When it wasn't a real moneymaking station, it could afford to put shows on about actual cooking. Now those shows don't last because they don't the draw that Guy or R.R. has. I swear if you wanna see some of the better FN shows, you have to tune in at 7:30 on Saturday and Sundays...

Inconsistency is putting it mildly. As much as I love the idea of a co-op bakery a block and a half from my front door, it would be much nicer if it had tasty baked goods. I finally thought I had found the right item there (in the cinnamon twist) to eat whilst doing laundry, but the other day found me chewing on what must have been something that fell off the day-old tray. I love the ethos, but the yumos has to be right up there with it.

WOW. You eloquent writing certainly does give the Taqueria's ambiance and food a magical quality that really does not exist. Have you used the bathroom yet after eating that burrito? NO BUENO MI AMIGO.
Food is mediocre, but with large portions.

BAGLES in Berkeley
Hey all, I'm looking to get some tasty bagles for my classes on Wed and Fri mornings. I live in Berkeley and will need to pick them up on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Any ideas of where I could grab some good ones with cream cheese?
Of course, they are college freshmen so they are used to ramen and grilled cheese but I thought I would do something nice.

Brown is, sadly, the worst part of the show. From humble scientific food geek to haughty overly condescending food host/know-it-all. IMHO!!!!!!!!!!
I just feel that Brown has no business talking to the greatest chef's in the U.S. in that way....IMHO.

I always get a craving for scrambled eggs watching the scene in Star Wars IV with Luke, Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Not sure exactly if there are scrambled eggs on Tatooine but that's what it looks like and that's what it makes me crave.
--oh, and every pastery they eat in a Soprano episode.

well, it is all subjective to when it is crowded, how many theaters are in the one bldg....etc.
Consistently though, I think the emerybay is pretty crappy along with every other aspect of that theater.
AMC Baystreet is your average movie popcorn: if you get it hot, it is really pretty good. Avoid the "topping" that they have as it is purely fat and in no way related to butter. However, if you go on a Tuesday afternoon and nobody is there you will probably be getting old stuff.
I liked the earlier post that pointed out the less theaters there are, the more they are popping and therefore the better quality popcorn.

Well, Living in Berkeley, my reach for exquisite popcorn has not extended to all theatres in the City....yet. But so far my favorite popcorn by far is the California theater. Behind that, I remember having excellent popcorn at the Castro. It should be noted that I rarely have butter on it (for the wifey's sake) but the California theatre has got a great buttery taste without the added topping.

We drink Bluebottle religiously at this point but I have yet to try their espresso. I should give it a shot. As far as baristas at popular coffee places (and unpopular ones) it always amazes me that they would go to the trouble to pay $30,000 for an espresso machine then pay someone $9/hour with 20 minutes of training to pull a shot. This is probably because they pull a detestable shot then blend, mix, dilute and flavor for most....I will definitely give some of the microroasters a shot. Thanks people.
