PORT ST LUCIE HELP PLEASE!

Finz in Stuart has Mrs. Peters dip on the menu (and a great happy hour) which may save you a trip to the Jensen Beach store. A few other restaurants in the area also have Mrs. Peters as an appetizer. New England Fish Market also makes their own fish dip that's a close runner-up.

Killington, VT restaurants

The BACK BEHIND has world class baby back ribs and pulled pork. Meat literally falls off the bone. Ain't gonna find better baby backs this side of the Mason-Dixon line,.

Casey's Caboose is one the friendliest sh**hole bars I've ever the pleasure of knockin' back a few in. Leave your 12-steppin' pals behind and saddle up.

Blanche and Bill's Pancake House for breakfast is homey as they come. Grandma brings you your eggs, blueberry pancakes and waffles. And, like everywhere else in Vt., that's real maple syrup, not Sears maple syrup, Sparky! No omelets, but terrific pancakes, eggs and waffles. Caveat emptor: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT deign to wear any clothing items emblazoned with a NY Yankees trademark logo to Blanche and Bill's, unless being chased down the slopes by dozens of torch-wielding local gentry Sox fanatics is your idea of fun. You've been warned.

good eats near Port St. Lucie

For a great bang for the buck try FINZ in Stuart's happy hour from 3-6 Mon-Sat. 1/2 price appetizers like the fish dip, fried calamar and mussels. Delicious crab balls (better than crab cakes) for $2 a pop and raw local oysters for $1 each at the happy hour. On the water and great for boaters pulling in. Very casual.

Crawdaddy's in Jensen has the best (and maybe only) Cajun/Creole in the area at the end of Jensen Beach Blvd. The jambalaya and the titular crawdads are winners.

El Cubanito in a strip mall on Port St Lucie Blvd about two blocks west of US1 is a primo homestylke Cuban joint. Don't leave town without trying this place, Best Cuban I've had in Florida. The lechon pork and marinated chicken are worldbeater.

Alaska

just found the info on shoretrips.com for the tour and it's definitely in the mix as a prime candidate for our day in port at Skagway...thanks again, Pete.

Alaska

didn't see anything in my shore excursion options from Celebrity or any listings on the internet that mentioned this particular tour, and it's sounds pretty interesting...if you happen to have any info about the tour operator you used, please let me know...thanks!

Alaska

thanx for the info...much appreicated

Heading to Alaska in early June for an Inside Passage cruisetour with Celebrity. Would appreciate any tips on restaurants/brewpubs
in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Denali area, Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway.
Any info on shore excursions (either absolute must-dos or avoid-at-all-costs tourist scams) also welcome.

Thanks.

PORT ST LUCIE HELP PLEASE!

Nothing to rave about in the Port St. Lucie area yet, but we were just there last week and here's the best bets in a rather barren culinary landscape:

1. Duffy's (a chain of Fla. sports bars) in West Port St. Lucie near I-95, has an AYCE ribs night on Mondays and a happy hour with 2 for 1 drinks. No great shakes, but the ribs are some of the best we ever had, and the waitresses are friendly in the extreme.

2. Crawdaddy's in Jensen Beach (about 20 minutes south of PSL on Jensen Beach Blvd. about a block from the beach). Solid Cajun menu (including the titular crawdad boil) and live bands on the patio during the weekend. Thursday night each week is a streetfest at Jensen Beach with the usual tchotkes for sale, and a small artist colony of 6-8 cottages that's a nice place to hang out while you're waiting for your your table across the street.

3. Bonefish Grille in Stuart (on US1)--Yes, the dreaded word "chain" rears its ugly head (they're owned by the same folks who brought you Outback) but as chains go, this one is in a class of its own. An nicely appointed room with great service and the seafood is the best bang for the buck in the area. Ask your waiter or waitress to bring you a sampling of all 4 of their signature sauces on the side with your fish. The fish is all well prepared and fresh from the daily selections. The "bang-bang" calamari appetizer was a winner, and they know how to mix a drink. Well worth the miserable 25 minute ride down US 1 from PSL.

4. Toojays (in Stuart on US1)--- Your best bet for breakfast/lunch/brunch. Great wraps, deli, omelettes. Packed to the gills for Sat/Sun brunch.
