North suburban Atlanta- fine dining suggestions?

This chowhound from Boston is going to be visiting his folks in Cartersville next month and wants to take them out to eat at a *nice* place, with great food, (a good wine list would be a plus, too) but I don't want to go into Atlanta itself (i think 'doing the city' would be a bit much for them), i'm hoping someone can suggest some fine dining ideas (no chain restaurants, please) north of Atlanta. Thanks!

Masa, Super 88, Canto 6, Blue Frog

hey Joanie- me and Linda ate at Masa a couple of weeks ago and we thought it was awesome. And i must say their Bloody Mary mix was pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty, pretty good. i would go back to this place for brunch anytime. looking forward to your next sausage fest : )

A place for drink with a fireplace

the Metropolitan on Rt. 9 in Chestnut Hill has a nice cozy little fireplace next to the bar with a couple of small tables right there. Food is great and drinks are nice too.

ANISE - Last Night

finally ate there on Tues. nite and was blown away. i could have eaten the dan dan noodles all night! the salmon i had was excellent, all the sauces i tried were incredible. i thought the prices were really decent and the 2-for-1 apps is an awesome deal (make sure you get there before 7PM!) i am highly recommending this place to all of my friends. plus Frank is a really nice guy.

Restaurant that went into the old Ambrosia spot?

ate there last night- the room is beautiful, the food and service were of excellent quality- the brown rice risotto was amazing, the sole outstanding, dessert was heavenly. my only complaint is the portion size/price ratio. i was still hungry after bread, two apps, an entree and dessert. ridiculously expensive, but that's just my humble opinion.

Cartersville/Marietta area suggestions?

this chowhound is visiting his folks in Cartersville next week. I'd like to take them out, nothing too fancy, but some real decent food would be nice. will go as far south as Marietta, too, although they're a bit older and i think Atlanta city proper might be a bit much for them. last time i was down they suggested El Nopal Mexican in Cartersville (which they enjoy) but i personally found it to be the blandest Mexican i had ever had, just real dullsville. so i'd like to take them somewhere they will like and won't be too "overwhelming", but that has good, well-made food that i can enjoy without being bored to tears.

any suggestions? thanks for your help!

Dallas restaurant recommendations?

thanks for all the tips. me & my stomach are really looking forward to our visit to Dallas!

ANISE - Last Night

would love to check this place out, but is it ever open? went on Sunday after a movie- closed. called up Monday nite- no answer. hmmm...

Visiting Austin next month, please review my choices, thx

if you want to try some awesome authentic tacos, try the supermarket La Moreliana (sp?) on the corner of W.Alpine and S. Congress. they have a counter in the back that you can order from, last time i was there i got 3 big tacos for like 2.50 or something. i live in Boston now but i'm visiting in a couple of weeks and i can't wait to eat those things again!!

La Summa steals the title: My worst dining experience EVER

haven't been to La Summa yet, but i ate at Nebo (sp?) a couple of months ago and i got a shrimp scampi that tasted like it had been soaked in bleach. my mouth actually got numb from whatever formaldehyde concoction was on those suckers. yuck. i had 2 and had to stop. everything else was pretty underwhelming, too. that is my most recent negative north end experience.

Dallas restaurant recommendations?

thanks for all the suggestions! looks like we'll def. be checking out either Local and/or Lola, and i'm gonna make a point to hit Sammy's and Cuquita's for some bbq and Mexican.

b/t/w if you ever find yourself in Boston and you're craving some great Mexican, check out Zocalo on Commonwealth Ave. in Brighton. nice place, fresh & authentic ingredients and the prices are good, too. yum!

Dallas restaurant recommendations?

will be in Dallas from Boston for 2 days and would like to eat at a really good restaurant- whether it's a dirt cheap mexican or bbq hole-in-the-wall, or more upscale italian/french/whatever, just want some recommendations for really good places to eat.
preferably nothing too far out (more than a 10 minute drive) from W Hotel (Victory Ave) or Hotel ZaZa (Leonard St.) any good restaurants worth checking out in the Deep Ellum area?

thanks for the help!
