Olive and Milo

I'd been to Milo and Olive a couple of times, great place, great food. It is small, and it gets very busy, prepare to wait. Worth the wait? Yes! ~

Carmela Louise Cafe Opens in Saugus

I stopped by Carmela Louise in Saugus today. Great shop. I ate a very good Chicken Waldorf Salad Croissant Sandwich. I also tried their carrot cake and it was very good, and we took home a delicious chocolate ganache tart. I am quite happy to have this much needed bakery cafe in Santa Clarita.

Taco Caterers

I recommend Mexicali Taco & Co, (323) 274-8907. I know that they do catering. The best tacos in Los Angeles, super clean people, setup and equipment. You might want to read their Yelp reviews.

I can't remember their first names, but this is their number. (323) 274-8907.

Mexicali Taco Co. ~ Real Baja Style Tacos

Yay!! Glad you liked them! I was there again last night.

Everyone seemed very happy. What a great taco night. I am from Baja, born and raised, and the scene at Mexicali Taco last night reminded me of one of those late night taco runs there. Happy people, scattered all around the taco stand, eating by their cars, chatting. Good times and amazing food. Superb customer service! All of that with the beautiful view of the City of Angels! This is truly the real thing!

***When we were driving back home the tweeted that they had just sold out, that was around 11 pm. I guess is better to try to go early.

Mexicali Taco Co. ~ Real Baja Style Tacos

I want to recommend you what I think are the best Baja Style Tacos in Los Angeles.

After trying many, many recommendations, I finally found what I see as the real thing, these are not a "Los Angeles Style Baja Tacos'" ~ these are truly authentic Northern Mexico / Baja Style Tacos! That's Mexicali leaning towards Sonora.

You might want to read more about them in Yelp, also a few online local blogger reviews had come out in the last few days.

For now they are located at the corner of 1st and Beaudry in Downtown Los Angeles, but they might be moving locations soon. The best is to check their Twitter feed for actual time and location.
http://twitter.com/MEXICALItacoCO ~ Or you can give them a call to inquire about their location.

For now I know they are at 1st and Beaudry, Wed-Thu: 8 pm - 12 am and Fri-Sat: 8 pm - 2am.

Cacao Mexicatessen ~ Eagle Rock

We read about Cacao Mexicatessen restaurant/deli coming to Eagle Rock sometime ago, and we were waiting for their grand opening. So there we went yesterday, Friday, July 31st, 2009.
A very cute store, lots of Mexican grocery basics, and lots of Mexican candy also available.
Their menu includes a big variety of items, I have to say that I did get lost with their menu.

We ended up ordering various items, including a cheese plate that I truly liked, and I will be coming back just for that, and because of it. Our cheese plate was presented to us by the chef, she explained to us what each of the cheeses were and their origin. I could tell that the chef was very proud of her cheese plate. An amazing Oaxaca imported cheese was included within the plate.

They are just starting their business, and clearly there are some issues that need work, but the flavors are there, so it is a good start.

Small restaurant, but plenty of seating indoor and outdoor.

I will try to go back in a few weeks, then I can give a better review.

Fishlips Sushi Truck ~ Short review + pics

Tomorrow night (Thursday) they are planing to be at the the Downtown Art Walk, and Friday they said that they already have a spot to park in Venice, Abbot Kinney. They will be twitting their location, should be close to Intelligentsia Coffee, or you can check their website.
Today, I tried their Spicy Tuna Hot Roll, which was very good, already craving for more.

Update:
I have been to Fishlips Sushi about 3 times now, and still it's as good as the first time, last night they were in Venice for First Friday, the sushi chefs were extremely busy, but they still had that friendly smile on their faces. They had a big crowd of customers, and everyone was very happy, and just raving about the sushi.

Mozza 2 Go ~ Delivery and Take Out

Yesterday was our first of hopefully multiple visits to Mozza 2 Go.
A beautiful shop! Very nice and helpful attendants. The 2 go menu is basically the same as Pizzeria Mozza, it includes antipasti, lasagne, salads, meats, paninis, pizzas, and a variety of desserts.
We bought a few items including a couple of paninis, and a butterscotch budino. Everything we bought was pure perfection.
I am a big fan of Pizzeria Mozza, for me Mozza 2 Go it's a great idea.
We grabbed our food at Mozza, and drove to the farmers market at 3rd and Fairfax, there we bought some fruit and drinks to complement our great lunch.

REVIEW: Hygge Bakery, Downtown LA

Great review, mine was short but in some ways I do feel the same way as you, I don't feel the bakery is quite complete yet. We also got blank answers from the attendant when we asked basic questions regarding their items.
I hope I capitalized the D for Danish in my review, but if I didn't I do apologize for it.
As for the price of things, one of the only prices we saw was 20.00 for the small strawberry cake/tart, not everything was labeled.
We bought: 1 coffee, 1 focaccia (small piece), 1 apple Danish, and 1 apple cookie type pastry, and our total was 17.00. I have no idea what the price of each item was.
Thanks for sharing your experience, now I want to go back and try those milk bread buns.

Hygee Danish Bakery ~ Short + Photos

I have been waiting for the opening of Hygee Danish Bakery, and I was very happy to know that they were finally open. I stopped by this afternoon. We bought a couple of pastries, a focaccia bread, and a coffee. The pastries were good, and the focaccia was okay. For coffee they only serve Gaviña regular drip.
I think that since I was anxiously waiting for this type of bakery, my expectations were quite high; I think they are still in their soft opening stage, and working some things out. I felt some type of emptiness, like if something was missing. I might be back again, if I am in the area.
I posted some pictures.

Mo-Chica Peruvian Restaurant ~ My short review and photos

After reading many reviews about Mo-Chica, I couldn't wait any longer and today, Monday, June 29th we drove to Los Angeles just to have dinner there. I am really glad we did, everything was absolutely delicious. The presentation of the food, the flavors, the quality of the ingredients, and the nice and friendly server and cooks just couldn't be any better.
In my opinion the prices are very reasonable.
I also recommend Mo-Chica.

Fishlips Sushi Truck ~ Short review + pics

Today we ate at FishLips Sushi Truck. They were located in Little Tokyo, near downtown.
When I first heard of a truck selling sushi, I was somewhat skeptical, but I am glad I decided to give it a try. It was so good, every bit of it. They use high quality and very fresh ingredients. Their rolls were very good, and the tamari balls practically melt in your mouth.
Their truck is impeccable, very clean, and very well equipped. They are also very well organized, in every way. Imagine that you are eating at a sushi bar, and practically you can see everything that is going on. (no seats available)
Our sushi was prepared to order, but it was ready quite fast.
There is one window where you place your order and pay, and another for pick up.
I highly recommend them.

I really like the churro truck in Echo Park. Make sure to ask for a fresh batch. The churro stand at Breed Street didn't look very appetizing to me, since it was quite dirty.

Territory BBQ ~ Silverlake ~ Short Review + Photos

When we went to Territory BBQ, I think it was the first weekend that they were open, there were no pouty girl attendants, and I was glad for that, since I know exactly what you mean. The only attendants and cooks that day were 'the boys.' They were quite friendly and attentive, without any greediness. We didn't try the pulled pork, everything we ordered was ok, but definitively our favorite was the fried chicken.

Ricardo's Fish Taco stand in Silverlake

burnwater: You will also notice the Baja Californian accent! And yes, it is cleaner than most.

In regards to the other thread, now that I remember, Ricardo did mention that someone had complained about him not having a big selection of salsas and other condiments.

Burnwater, you might remember from your days surfing in Baja, this is what it was: tortilla, fish, mayo/cream, cabbage, and a red salsa, right?

There were no pineapple or mango gourmet salsas at the original Ensenada fish taco stands, if I remember correctly.

Hope you like them!
