Thanks for starting a new thread! Did you mean to choose the more restrictive, special Q&A thread type for it, though?

ISO Patak's Brinjal Pickles

Glad you found it. Never rains, but pours brinjal pickle, apparently. ;-)

Candy Wrappers?

Sparkles in NDG probably has them - call to check.

http://sparklescandy.com/

You could also try Ares, Michaels, or France Decor/Vixit.

Cake decorations and supplies

I suggest you try Ares although I'll admit I'm not sure what a "pudding basin" is or how specialized it is. If it's something British you could also try Bramble House.

http://www.bramblehouse.net/

Edit: I just Googled "pudding basin" and I still suggest the above two places. :-

Chicken Kiev in Montreal

Krakovie does a reasonable version. It's $15.75.

Small Post-Wedding Dinner?? Help??

> Does anyone have any opinions of L'academie?

I'd avoid it. Been to a group dinner at the one on St-Denis and it was very mediocre.

San Francisco Style Burritos in Montreal

Thanks for the specifics! How is the chicken texture-wise, is it juicy and shredded, or more like drier chunks?

San Francisco Style Burritos in Montreal

Yes, agreed. It's probably also against the terms of service of those sites, but that's another story.

San Francisco Style Burritos in Montreal

This is also an "interesting" tactic:

"Adobo is now on Yelp and Urbanspoon!

Write a review of Adobo on Yelp or Urbanspoon and get 50% off on one of our authentic dishes!
Share this promotion with your friends and come visit us!

Proof (cellular or hard copy) must be presented to the cashier at the time of the purchase. Valid until 10 October 2014 inclusively. Maximum of one (1) review per order. Not valid on delivery."

I'd love to hear what makes Adobo Grillades Mexican good, please. :-) I've been so disappointed so far with all chicken burritos in my fair city, including Burrito Shop and Jimmy Guaco's....

Saturday brunch around Jean-Talon market / mile end

Lawrence. If at least one of you gets there a little before the 10am opening you can stake out a spot and hopefully get a table right away.

Breakfast?

I second Prohibition and would add:

Gryphon d'or on Monkland has a fantastic weekend brunch. Signature dish is Guinness eggs benedict.

Café Grand on Sherbrooke West, corner Grand, has a great breakfast/brunch every day. Don't miss the homemade biscuits.

Indian?

I second Thanjai if you are into dosas.

My other faves:

Flavours of India - corner l'Acadie & Jean-Talon. Faves: channa bhatura, channa samosa, balti chicken.
Jolee - 5495 Avenue Victoria - Sri Lankan specialties including string hoppers, kottu roti. Good thali platters.

Haitian Groceries Downtown or West End

Any leads on Haitian groceries including djon-djon mushrooms and sour orange, anywhere downtown or further west? Perhaps a specific Caribbean shop near Plamondon? The person I'm asking for isn't able to wander around looking so we need the specific name of a shop to go to or call. We know about Meli-Melo and Casserole Kreole but they're too far. TIA for any ideas.

Freekeh

After learning the hard way (yuck) I had to hand-pick the bag I bought from Adonis. I only saw one brand there, same one as they sell at Akhavan. I'd also like to know if anyone finds a "whole grain" freekeh somewhere. I think the one I got was cracked freekeh, but I Googled a lot of photos and am still not sure. Need freekeh enlightenment!

Freekeh

Both Akhavan and Adonis do have it but I've also been told they carry it at Loblaws in NDG.

If you want "easy-going, laid back, low key" atmosphere and great, affordable Indian food, I'd highly recommend Flavours of India on Jean-Talon at L'Acadie.

Faves: chicken 65, chana samosa, balti chicken, chana bhatura.

The taco flavours are intriguing: drunk chicken, roasted cauliflower with avocado & ricotta are particularly interesting. Wonder how the fish tacos compare to the taco place in Montreal West, whose fish tacos are out of this world and cost $4 each for a gigantic taco.

After the Game on Saturday

And finally if you crave Chinese, I suggest Mon Nan on de la Gauchetiere, door on the ground floor, just a few stairs up. 20 min walk from Bell Centre.

Recommend the 3-course half-Peking duck ($30), which serves two people nicely. Includes duck and tofu soup, sliced duck with pancakes/green onion/marinated carrots & daikon, and veggie duck stir-fry. If you're 3-4 people, get the whole duck variation and/or half duck plus a few other dishes.
