where to purchase almond paste (not marzipan) in Montreal?

I've looked all over the city and have yet to find any.

Coaticook ice cream

I found all the Coaticook frozen yogurt flavours at Super C on St-Jacques in NDG. Bought a second tub of the cafe latte flavour - it grew on me. :-)

Next time will try the lemon-lime. Hope they create more flavours too.

Montreal Specifics

I don't know if our brunches tend to be boozy affairs - I guess it depends if the place serves alcohol at brunch and what you order. :-)

I highly recommend Lawrence (in Mile End) for weekend brunch:

http://lawrencerestaurant.com/

They have Bloody Marys and a few other drinks at brunch.

Also recommend Probhition's brunch (in NDG) and I see they have a Bloddy Caesar:

Coaticook ice cream

I found the cafe latte frozen yogurt this weekend at the IGA on Cote-St-Luc Rd, where they also had all the other Coaticook frozen-yogurt flavours, including strawberry-banana and lemon-lime. I do like it - though it's a bit tangier than I normally like things. Very creamy and I like that the list of ingredients is really short, and it has no artificial aftertaste.

No I haven't, as I mentioned I've never even heard of that tea room before now. ;-) Looks like a nice place though, but only open a few days a week.

CSA Farms

Their site may not be up-to-date.

Sent June 27:

"Starting today, the minimum basket order is only $15.

You can continue to customize as usual, adding or removing whatever you want. But the new minimum means you can combine your weekly Lufa Farms order with veggies coming from your summer garden, dinners on restaurant terraces, and walks through local markets without worrying about having too much food in the fridge when you get home."

Here it is mentioned on their blog:

Openings & Closings July, August & September 2014

Bistro Amerigo has opened on Monkland in the old Taste of India spot at 6127 Monkland.

Seems to have some connection to the Italian Pantry - and its attached cafe - across the street. Small variety of dishes including focaccia, pasta, a few meat plates, and frittatas. Looks promising. Nice terrace out front.

Food Cities beyond Montreal & Quebec City?

Manoir Hovey's table d'hôte menu: http://www.manoirhovey.com/en/table-d... (always changing so many not be the same when you go, but always has a variety of things

)

> There also needs to be enough other things to do for a tween beyond food.

In Coaticook (near the dairy I posted before) I recommend the Coaticook Gorge Park - world's longest pedestrian suspension bridge! And the park is gorgeous and it's an interesting hike. http://www.gorgedecoaticook.qc.ca/

Food Cities beyond Montreal & Quebec City?

Instead of the Laurentians you might want to check out the Eastern Townships - it's a bit more of a foodie destination.

Manoir Hovey in North Hatley is really spectacular and its food is award-winning:

You could also visit the Coaticook Dairy which is a short drive away:

Others may have more suggestions in places like Sutton or Knowlton.

Help with a wine bottle

I can't help you with the "is it any good" part (and for that you might actually want to post on the Wine board) but I did find this post about the L'oiseau bleu winery's trademark!

Help with a wine bottle

Are you trying to find this wine in Montreal, or just to have the bottle translated, or something else?

Peach sparkling wine - brand L'oiseau bleu (Blue Bird)

I plugged "L'oiseau bleu" into the SAQ site and nothing came up for this brand. http://www.saq.com

MplsM ary - "But I have to say it bugs me more that there's no linking to individual posts. I had to open the code page, find my post and append # plus the post number to accomplish this."

Yup, I miss them too. I reported it a while back and staff said they're planning to add the reply permalinks back.

Kris in Beijing - "Is anyone else completely aggravated on a minor-but-bugs-the-HECK-outta -me level about the positioning of the number inside the blue circle for # of recommends??"

Yes, the misalignment bugs me too and I was just coming here to post that. :-)

I'm seeing it in Firefox 30/Mac 10.9.3

Is the permalink on replies gone, or am I just not finding it?

If it's been removed, would you consider putting it back? It's very useful when referencing specific replies in other threads.

You could just a permalink to the relative date on replies - i.e. "just now," "about 4 hours ago," etc.

"you've made the Recommend, Flag, and Reply links invisible until you hover over the area where they might be."

As far as I know that isn't a new change - take a look at the site when logged out to see what I mean.

The hover effect on recommend/flag/reply links has been like that on comments since the last site overhaul, and it's the same in the new version.

Love the new "photo story" format, which I looked at in action here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/980226

For those of us that are more visual the larger photos that don't require clicking to enlarge (like the current photos do) are a wonderful enhancement to the site and makes me feel like I was at the meal.

Suggestion for further enhancement: also provide the means to look at the photos (with captions) in a carousel, with arrows for navigation. Clicking one photo in a series would open up the carousel with the image displayed at an even larger resolution. See WordPress.com carousels or Jetpack plugin carousel (self-hosted WordPress) for an example. http://en.support.wordpress.com/image...

Oh wow, I just found another bug :-) The photo I uploaded earlier in the thread remains in every reply window I have now, and I can't get rid of it.

Halp? :-)

I'll try uploading a second screenshot to show you what it looks like.

Ah - I was able to override the old photo by adding a new one. But note in the screenshot how there is no "delete" button on the old image.

Just FYI, you can take a screenshot on an iPad by clicking both the round home button and the power button at the top at the same time. It'll end up in your camera roll.

Coaticook ice cream

I recently visited the Laiterie Coaticook factory out in... Coaticook! Well worth a trip if you're in the area. They had tons of ice-cream flavours they don't currently sell in stores, and other dairy stuff like frozen Greek yogurt, cheese curds, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese.

I later wrote to find out where I could find the frozen Greek yogurt in Montreal, and they said the IGA on Cote-St-Luc Rd. and IGA at 1155 Jarry Est carry the Greek yogurt flavour I'd most like to try, a café latte flavour. Has anyone tried it?

need a suggestion

I second Gia Ba on Monkland. Look at the thread SnackHappy posted for some specific recommendations. I'm sure staff would be glad to suggest some particularly spicy dishes, too - they're very friendly.

Quesada Just Opened

I know, thanks finefoodie55 - I actually looked up the closest location a while back. ;-) I wouldn't make a special trip for it (and I don't ever drive to Plattsburgh for other reasons). I do, on the other hand, seem to transfer through Philly Airport an awful lot. But good for other folks who do more cross-border shopping to know it's there.

Montreal: Poutine and Shish Taouk and Couscous and....

Or go to Chalet BBQ if you want to try good Montreal rotisserie chicken. http://www.chaletbbq.com/

> I on the the other hand highly recommend you NOT go to st hubert.. its a horrible chain restaurant

Totally agree. I wouldn't in a million years send anyone there, let alone a tourist with limited time in the city. Even the fries in their ads always look bad, and if you can't make food look good in carefully set up advertising pics, you can probably imagine what it's actually like when it's on your plate.
