I made this recently for a large dinner party as a side dish. People were very complimentary and I liked the dish, but didn't love it. I did love the colour, the freshness of the herb paste (and it's gorgeous smell) and I appreciated the sweet/savoury note added by the fried onions. I did add some lemon juice as suggested by some posters. But I found it a bit under seasoned and bland. Next time I will make more onion, add more lemon (possibly some lemon zest) and season more assertively.

Chicken and Chickpea Tagine

I have often made this, but it certainly doesn't convince as a tagine. My family enjoy the contrast of tender chicken, sweet carrot, creamy chickpeas. I use skinless, bone-in chicken thighs and lots more carrots than Nigella suggests. Tinned chickpeas work fine in this dish, and it is fairly soupy. Most importantly is that I add more spice - some chilli flakes or similar - and preserved lemon also works in this.

After months of ogling this recipe (and doubting it could taste as good as claimed) I finally made it for my meat loving family of teenage boys. And they liked it. And husband and I loved it! Used low fat 2% Greek Style yoghurt and loved the pale cool green of the pea yoghurt puree, the creamy crunchy spicy warm pine nuts, salty feta and fresh basil. It seems to me that like many Ottolenghi recipes it's best to include the ingredients as he specifies or the tastes might not come together as well as intended.

I have made this extremely simple and fresh pasta dish often as a quick supper. I agree absolutely that a big squeeze of fresh lemon juice is essential to lift the dish. Jamie Oliver has a fresh zucchini and basil pasta dish, but Donna Hayes' recipe is simpler and fresher to my taste.

Again..is it me ? Double text

I have had the same problem at times of double lines of text appearing - it doesn't usually last long though, but it is something I've noticed over the last while. It does seem to be a problem while a page is still loading - will try be more vigilant and see if I can notice exactly when it happens!

Vegan in Durban?

I am sure she will be able to find vegan supplies in Durban, there is an abundant supply of fresh fruit and veg all year round, there are many Indian and Asian stores so there is easy access to rice/ pulses/ tofu etc.

Another good contact is a vegan restaurant called Earth2 in Johannesburg that should be able to assist your friend with advice about her trip to Durban

Orecchiette with Broccoli Rabe, Red Pepper Flakes, and Anchovies

I've just made this dish for an easy, but healthy and delicious sunday night dinner. I'm in South Africa and have never seen broccoli rabe for sale, so I used tenderstem broccoli, which seems fairly similar to the rabe. I served it with a little grated, fresh Parmesan. The recipe was a great success! I'll definitely make it again.
