Wa Jeal -New Sichuan Restaurant 83rd/2nd Ave

I LOVE the spicy stir fried miso chicken, the salt and pepper lotus root, and the hot and sour soup. We get take out from this place at least once a week. It's outstanding.

Searching for decent tacos in Manhattan

Dos Toros does have pretty tasty tacos--although I'm pretty sure their hot sauce is Sriracha. At any rate, they're cheaper than a flight to LA.

Searching for decent tacos in Manhattan

I was born and raised in So Cal, and I'm afraid I must differ with you on Cascabel. Their tacos are kind of tasteless and their salsas not nearly spicy enough. It's a shame because I live just around the corner and the space is cute.

The only good Mexican food I've found in the city thus far is Hecho en Dumbo on Bowery. Their cochinita pibil is to die for.

Sigh, I love New York but I miss the Mexican markets where one can buy 100 still-warm tortillas for $2.

Visiting from LA-must have pizza and pastrami.....and a bagel

I recently moved from LA to NYC, and while I won't even pretend to know where the best New York pizza is, I can tell you that Motorino is outstanding. At this time of year their brussels sprout pizza will be killer. Also, you could go to Motorino for dinner, head over to Black Market for INCREDIBLE cocktails (it's on 7th and Ave. A), and then stumble over to Veselka (open 24 hours) for perogi before cabbing it to your hotel.

P.S. I believed the hype about there being a cocktail revolution in LA until I moved to New York and tried the drinks at places like Black Market.

Which Wedding Venue has the Best Food?

I've never had the plated service at Calamigos, but I have had the buffet twice and enjoyed it.

Suggestions for tonight in Belmont Shore area?

Bono's is mediocre. Go to Open Sesame for excellent Lebanese food.

Old-School LA Recs?

I was wondering if somebody was going to recommend Tam O'Shanter!

For a less upscale but still old LA experience, go to Coles downtown. Their lamb sandwich with goat cheese is outstanding. I cannot wait to go back to try their cocktails.

In the event that you happen to be in Long Beach, you must go to Kelly's on 2nd St. It looks like an Irish pub on the outside but is actually a really nice steakhouse. Their martinis are huge and well-made because they are for old-school boozers. I'd recommend it above the Dal Rae.

Good restaurants with great deals in tough times?

Little Dom's in Los Feliz has a great 3 course menu on Monday nights for $15. Went there last Monday and had fennel-parmesan salad (nice and simple with clean acidity in the dressing), skirt steak with lima beans (so that's what they're supposed to taste like), and a great not-too-sweet rice pudding. Their cocktails are excellent, but on Mondays they also have $10 bottles of house wine (not bad for the price) and $2 Peroni.

Looking in Long Beach

Open Sesame on 2nd in Belmont Shores (basically across the street from La Creperie) is great for tasty Lebanese food. I sometimes contemplate driving there from Burbank for their kafta or chicken tawook with garlic sauce. The fried cauliflower is great, too.

Scenic and Good along PCH b/t LA and Dana Point (maybe around Long or Huntington Beach)

I would not suggest eating anywhere in Huntington Beach. Long Beach, however, has some great options. I loved the always-packed Open Sesame on 2nd Street for Lebanese food when I lived there.

Tantalum on PCH is beautiful and a great lunch spot because while you'd never know it from the Ralph's shopping center location, the entire restaurant pretty much faces the marina. Their food has gone down a bit of late, but you can't beat the drinks or the location.

Planning LA/OC long weekend trip from DC... advice please!

Keep in mind that Dana Point is a long way from Beverly Hills and Hollywood, especially with traffic. I would not recommend fighting your way down the 405 any weekday afternoon between the hours of 3pm and 6pm (minimum). Why not start off at The Ivy for lunch and spend some time shopping on Robertson Blvd. before heading over to Rodeo Drive and having dinner at Spago? This way you can drive back down well after traffic.

Also, Hungry Cat in Hollywood has excellent food and fantastic cocktails.

restaurant or bar between studio city and Encino that serves food till 12am

Depending on your definition of "decent" food, Mexicali on Ventura should work.

Best Produce and Bread In LA

The guy who sells bread at the Saturday market has some great stuff. He might be at the Wednesday market as well, but I've only been on the weekend.

Dinner ideas in North Long Beach?

Benley is a great Vienamese place. It's not exactly North Long Beach, but it's not Belmont Shores either. It's in a little strip mall and is very affordable.

Best restaurant in Long Beach

I second Tracht's, Frenchy's, and Koi.

I've only eaten at Delius once, but it was pretty awful. The food ranged from bland to so-salty-it-couldn't-be-eaten.

I'd also like to add Kelly's for great steaks and martinis. I promise that it's a very nice, old-school steak house even though it looks like an Irish pub on the outside.

Michael's is a newer Italian place. I think they may have had a few kinks to work out when they first opened, but their food is great and the atmosphere very nice.

Fullerton to Los Angeles

In down town Fullerton, Roscoe's Deli is not bad for big sandwiches and beer and El Fortin on Commonwealth has excellent food (my friend said the mole was like her grandma' s and I was the only person in the place who was not a native speaker of Spanish). People say that Lee's on Harbor is the McDonald's of Bahn Mi, but it will do in a pinch.

Anything Decent at Knott's Berry Farm?

Mmmmm. My boyfriend's Italian, born-and-raised-in-Chicago dad drives all the way from the Valley to go to Portillo's. It's good stuff.

The prices these days and disappointing meals

You may already be familiar with these places, but I love the food at Farfalla (Italian) and Tropicalia (Brazilian) on Hillhurst in Los Feliz. Tropicalia is definitely the less expensive and more casual of the two. You can't go wrong ordering off the specials menu at Farfalla--their fish is always good and any of the apps with burrata are fantastic. It's just fresh, solid Italian food.

What about Bistro Provence in Burbank on Pass? It's in a Vons shopping center, but the inside is quite nice. They have pretty good French-style food for very reasonable prices. I believe it's three courses for less than $30.

Give up on Studio City/Ventura?? a few good spots

I have to disagree with a recommendation for Mexicali. The only suitable time to go there is when you want a margarita and some food at midnight. That said, their tortilla soup is pretty good.

Yes, I was in burger nirvana!

In my opinion the bistro side of the menu us better than the BBQ side. We tend to go on Mondays when all beer is half price and they have fried chicken, which is pretty reasonably priced. I also like it because you can usually get a table with no reservation on a Friday or Saturday.

Romantic celebratory dinner...

I went to the Wilshire for the first time on Saturday and loved it. The patio is fantastic and would be a great setting for a celebratory meal.

Mom's Birthday lunch in Pasadena

Definitely dressing on the side if you go to Green Street. I know someone who used to work there and it is definitely not healthy. The chicken (in some dishes at least) is poached in butter and the Diane salad dressing consists of canola oil, vinegar, and sugar atop an entire head of ice burg lettuce. Literally, an entire head.

Wilshire for dinner tonight?

I was there on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed the mussels in curried broth (app), arugula salad with prosciutto, and the leg of lamb. The lamb came with eggplant and cous cous and pickled tomato (I think). My boyfriend raved about his burrata and heirloom tomato salad and pork chop as well. All in all, it was one of the best meals we've had in Los Angeles.

Bibimbap

I know there are quite a few Korean places at the edge of Buena Park near Fullerton. Maybe on Beach near the boarder of the cities? Perhaps someone else can help with specific places. I've only ever had Bibimbap at a place on Sawtelle.
