Francis Mallman 1884, Mendoza review - Beautiful restaurant but average meal

This is the problem with having high expectations for a meal and something I struggle with, too. I'm visiting Mendoza in December and this is definitely on my list. how far of a drive was it from Mendoza? Trying to debate if the meal is worth the hassle and cost of finding a driver to get us there.

Lockhart BBQ

Definitely hit all three. Smitty's was my favorite of the group, but they all have something to offer. I remember Smitty's ribs being tremendous. And, of course, Kreuz has fantastic jalapeno sausage, though that might not be a huge draw since you can get that in Oak Cliff now.

Have fun!

Yuengling anywhere?

Specs won't have it. No one has it because it is illegal to sell Yuengling in Texas due to distribution laws. The brewery does not have a distributer here. Ask any bar owner who has looked into it and they will tell you that if caught, they'd be looking at steep fines.

First Charlie Palmer, now Nana.....

Probably because their clientele is mostly the businessmen who are at the Anatole for a conference, and steak is what that clientele wants. It's a shame for the rest of us, though. I've only had great meals at Nana.

BLTs

Ok, so I had the BLT at Crossroads Diner (75 and Walnut Hill) and it is definitely worth mentioning. Tons of crisp, salty bacon, fresh tomatoes, and greens. I added avocado and a fried egg. It comes on the same brioche they use for their french toast. It was huge; when it arrived in front of me I declared that I was only going to eat half. Predictably, I polished off the entire thing. Fantastic.

BLTs

I'm looking for the best BLTs in Dallas.

(Note: I generally prefer to nix the mayo and add avocado, so if avocado is an option, that's a plus, but not a requirement.)

I'm a big fan of the BLTA at Lee Harvey's and looking for other options.

Ok, go!

Yuengling anywhere?

As a Philly native, it breaks my heart, but no - you can't get Yuengling anywhere here due to distribution regulations.

Arroz Negro in Valencia

does anyone have suggestions for some great Arroz Negro in Valencia? I've read some bad things about L'Estimat and La Pepica, so I'm having trouble deciding. I'm debating the a la carte menu at Ca Sento but am curious if there are other options.

Barcelona Itinerary 7 night in May - any suggestions?

Anything I can't miss at 41 Degrees? I was shut out of Tickets so made a 9pm reservation at 41 Degrees and can't wait. I'm very much looking forward to the olives but haven't read much about the rest of their menu.

Paella in Barceloneta

Looks like my best bets are La Mar Salada or Kaiku. Thanks. And yes, SH, I'm quite familiar with the search function but somehow missed that 4/29 thread.

Paella in Barceloneta

I'd like to have Paella for Sunday lunch in Barceloneta. However, I'd really like to avoid the touristy places with pre-made paella. Any suggestions for places to hit? I can make a reservation, if need be. (I'll be there in early June, if that makes a difference.) Thanks in advance.

Or, if there's a better place within city limits to have paella, let me know that as well. But it seems from all I've read that paella for sunday lunch in Barceloneta is one of those things I must experience.

Barcelona: Off-and-on-the-beaten-track restaurants

Thanks for this writeup. Any suggestions for a good seafood paella for lunch in Barceloneta?

Dallas CSA

You don't have to live in Oak Cliff. They have pick up locations all over the metroplex.

Chowhound from Philly needs recommendations very near the Hilton in Market Center

When I had the brisket from Lockhart Smokehouse (only once) it was inedible. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day, but I won't risk trying it again.

I'm a Philly native and aside from using caps lock, I can't emphasize this enough: please don't bother going to Texas Land and Cattle. It's nothing you can't find in Philly or any other major city.

I love the Bishop Arts suggestions. And yes - definitely make an effort to get some good Tex Mex/Mexican/Breakfast Tacos/etc. It's one of the things that is 100x better here than in or around Philly.

Not a huge fan of Meddlesome Moth's food, either. The best part is the beer, which probably won't impress an 8 year old much.

Tillman's could be a good choice as I'm guessing most kids would love that S'mores dessert.

Smoke for brunch or BBQ.

And yes, yes, yes to Babe's. Best fried chicken and chicken strips ever. And super kid friendly.

Cinc Sentits for lunch, 41 degrees for dinner?

Not that I've been, but 41 degrees only has bar snacks, so I can't imagine you'd want to go there with a huge appetite.

Any restaurant in same league as York Street?

You can't go wrong with either Nana or The French Room. Two of the best Dallas has to offer.

Ferran Adria's new spot

I had the same problem today. I was trying to book for any time between June 3-8 and it says that everything is completely full. I find this hard to believe, but since I'm in the US, I can't call to confirm. Oh well....

41 degrees' booking system shows plenty of openings, so I made one there. Was really hoping to eat at Tickets, though.

Zanata in Plano.

I think it's worth a visit as the space is really nice and some of the dishes I tried were quite good. However, the clam pie was a major disappointment. I mean, HUGE disappointment. I may go back to try some other things, but I'd never order the clam pie again. It just made me wish I'd gone to Nonna.

Where to take foodie Grandma out for dinner in Dallas!

Nana is a great suggestion. I adore that place.

I think Bijoux pretty much sucks. There, I said it. Terrible service, mediocre food that sounds really great on the menu but never quite delivers. There are so many better options at that price point.

Dallas best brunch

That place is huge. I don't think there's ever a big wait.

Dallas best brunch

Their sticky buns are ridiculously good. Word of warning, though: I wouldn't go with a large group. We've been twice with 10 people and while I'm totally willing to forgive a slight slowdown, it took us three hours to get in and out, including one hour just to order. Otherwise, I think they have potential.

Sushi lovers. What's the consensus on Kenichi at the W?

Not if you do omakase.

Sushi lovers. What's the consensus on Kenichi at the W?

Expensive, but I loved everything I had there. And branch out from the sushi - their menu has plenty of other good things on it as well.

Dallas best brunch

Ok, aside from Smoke...these are some of my favorites. Though, they lean more towards casual since we typically hit brunch after a Saturday morning run.

Buzzbrews
La Duni
Dream Cafe
Central Market just introduced a new menu that is actually pretty solid. The lox and brie on challah is fantastic.

I adore the brisket cornbread hash at Smoke.

Beer Bars in Dallas

Old Monk or The Libertine. Both have great food, too.
