Mastro's, CUT, or STK? Looking for best steak in LA

REDMEAT is always a good vote for Dish of the Month as is STEAKANDEGGS. Just sayin'...

LA Weekly 20 Best Restaurants in LA. I know "Not another list"

Perhaps not quite an apples to apples comparison, but at least in Dish of the Month, there is a voting thread. I always wonder what the criteria are for articles like this. Also, the piece begins with a picture of something at Baco Mercat, which doesn't seem to be liked by many people and it ranks #4.

Superba Food + Bread

Just curious, what was the seating like? At Superba Snack Bar, the chairs they have chosen are uncomfortable and some of the tall tables impractical imo.

Mastro's, CUT, or STK? Looking for best steak in LA

I prefer Mastro's Ocean Club in Newport Beach over the Beverly Hills location.

Park's vs. Kang Hodong Baekjeong?

...although at Park's I usually ask for kimchi and ojingeo, both of which don't always come on the banchan but are free if you ask.

Korean Banchan that is better than SF

Is there an inverse relationship between the quality of the bbq and the quality of the banchan. It seems like when it I find stellar bbq, the banchan is average, and vice versa.

Shellfish -- L.A. Dish of the Month, April 2014

Had amaebi (sweet shrimp; actually prawns from Santa Barbara) at Kawami in Studio City. They were sweet and wonderful. And...the fried heads were good too.

You would have a hard time finding _________in Los Angeles...

Thanks Dommy, ns1, and martan for the inexpensive oyster recs. SHELLFISH month is in full swing!

Finally

I have been to 5 other BBQ places, and all were found wanting, but now I have my place.

You would have a hard time finding inexpensive oysters on the half shell in Los Angeles.

BBQ Hounds: Check out Burnt to a Crisp Truck. Need your expert opinion.

They are nice guys and aim to please. I noticed the (713) area code on the website, and like me, they are originally from Houston, TX. Their brisket is for real as are their Texas roots, as evidenced by the pickles and onion on the sandwiches. The chili is tasty too, but the baked beans, not so much. But hey, the meat is tasty. Would recommend without hesitation, although my heart belongs to Kevin Bludso. Will be back to try more stuff...

Best Pasadena Lunch

old post that people seem to keep updating...

it's an oxymoron, if you ask me: Best Pasadena Lunch...

there is better everything anywhere else IMHO...

challenge ya'll to name a "best in class" place that you can't get better somewhere else in LA...

and before you start hating on me, I realize my post is not helpful to someone looking for lunch in Pasadena...

Crepes like the Magic Pan?

There is that Crepe place in Mar Vista. I can't remember the name.

I remember Magic Pan since I grew up in Houston and there was one at the Galleria. I loved their deep fried cheese balls with honey mustard.

Shellfish -- L.A. Dish of the Month, April 2014

Same executive chef at Black Market Liquor in Studio City, and the same pricing. This "tapas" size dining has me down. I like a regular plate of food.

Another Wonderful Dinner at Chi Spacca

We moved on to a plate of pecorino, candied walnuts, and honeycomb which comes from their own bee farm on top of the Mozza complex.

What order at Craig's in WEHO?

Thanks. For a meal like this, I probably would have gone to the Palm, but for my money this was a calmer environment. Plus, the chicken parm was a nice sized portion, and who needs veal anyway.

Shellfish -- L.A. Dish of the Month, April 2014

I'm guessing that crab cakes count, right? Had some nice ones tonight at Craig's. They come two to an order with a nice remoulade.

What order at Craig's in WEHO?

Well, I was pleasantly surprised tonight. Craig's is a lovely and comfortable place to eat with big booths and great service. My friend and I split an order of crabcakes with romelade, and both of us ordered the same chicken parm entrée. While it may sound pedestrian, the crabcakes were expertly prepared as was the chicken parm. I would go back! Thanks for the recs, the few of you who answered.

I'm meeting a friend of mine for Dinner at Craig's in West Hollywood tonight and looking for ideas what to order...

I guess what to avoid is useful too! Thanks in advance!

Shellfish -- L.A. Dish of the Month, April 2014

Along the same lines, on Sunday 3/30, I had lunch at Gjelina. Started out with 1 dozen cold, sweet, Kumamoto oysters ($32), a hangar steak sandwich, some killer indian spiced carrots with yoghurt, and for dessert...wait for it...PIE, as in a lamb sausage pizza pie. Sure, I too was a couple days early for SHELLFISH but ya know just getting over the dramatic loss of STEAKANDEGGS. Oh well, maybe the month of May will be my month.

Beyond tacos, which food trucks are worth it and why?

While I would never even try something like this, the hollowheads on Abbott Kinney seem to really like the Vegan Icecream Truck. Go figure.
