Best Korean or authentic Chinese (any region) in Shoreline? Dinner out tonight!
Huh, we were a table of two there just a few weeks ago and they let us do the table grill. Weird.

I thought the Sorabol up there had closed? I could be wrong. But Ka Won is a great place, lovely ambiance, good food.
Visiting Seattle Over Memorial Day Weekend Need Restaurant/Coffee/Alcohol Suggestions
Coffee near greenlake: Neptune, Herkimer, Seven/Makeda, Ballard Coffee Works
Ballard Pizza Company - Ethan Stowell
Updating yesterday's comment: my partner went back yesterday and reports that the pizza was significantly improved from our first visit, and definitely worth more visits. Also that they have 'flour hour' from 10-11pm weekdays where slices are only $1
Ballard Pizza Company - Ethan Stowell
What I liked best about BPC was that I could get Ethan's pasta in a cheaper, more casual way. We had 2 slices, one of which I think was a victim of sitting too long? The other was significantly better, so I'm hopeful as the learn to gauge needs better things won't sit so long? Still, they're only $3/slice, so it's hard to complain, at those prices.
San Francisco Hound Coming to Seattle: Please Critique My List for the Emerald City!!!
The fancy menu can be done with any number of people--I'd even recommend it for one. I think it depends on your food preferences. While the S&F desserts are lovely, you would be eating them solely to say you ate there, which is not fair to them. I'd decide if you are more interested in light bites and oysters or a full meal. Or at the least, order some pastas from Staple and Fancy.
Best Oysters at Best Price in Seattle?
Shucker's in the Fairmont HH, 3-5pm, $1 oysters, but unlike many other oyster HHs (Elliotts) their entire oyster menu (about 9) are available. Also free parmesan crisps and bar snacks. And great service.
San Francisco Hound Coming to Seattle: Please Critique My List for the Emerald City!!!
For coffee, starting in Ballard, you'll want to hit Ballard Coffee Works, the new outlet of Seattle Coffee Works. If you can get up to Greenwood, you'll also want to hit Neptune. Those are the closest to the Blue Bottle/Four Barrels models that we've found.
Tastespotting...The real deal?
Yeah, and that's why I started putting pictures on my own blog, but I'll be honest--it means the best recipes go unposted because I'm not a photographer, I'm a cook and a writer. If I posted recipes without pictures they would be my best recipes, but nobody would read them.
Puebla: Mercado de Sabores Poblanos
We stopped in, however we had just eaten at actual market stalls and were far too full to try anything, so I can't report on quality. It was also mid-afternoon so the emptiness, hopefully, was just from timing, not bad food. It looked very sanitized, making my theory that they're trying to be sort of like the hawker malls in Singapore, but not sure. They definitely had a huge array of stuff.
Tastespotting...The real deal?
The only qualification of Tastespotting is a good picture, so there is no assurance that the recipe is in any way useful. On the reverse, often the best recipes will have no picture, so then you'll never find them on Tastespotting (most notably stuff from, say, Epicurious)
Graduation Dinner with Dad
One of the great things about Seattle is that there is excellent seafood everywhere--I had some lovely local clams, in fact, on my last trip to Altura. Specifically for Italian and Seafood, you could try Anchovies and Olives, but my guess is Altura, Spinasse, etc. would all have seafood option.
Chicago CH'er looking for Sunday Dinner in walking distance to Washington Hall
Ha! I am a lady, and one who used to live at 11th and Jefferson, no less. I've walked those blocks in heels many a time!
I think Ba Bar is less likely to have a wait than Tamarind Tree, but both are lovely, upscale Vietnamese food with fairly good cocktail selections
Chicago CH'er looking for Sunday Dinner in walking distance to Washington Hall
Certainly no reason that Malay Satay Hut or Tamarind Tree wouldn't be walking distance, even in the highest of heels. Similarly Ba Bar is only maybe 2 long blocks? Mesob, for Ethiopian, is right there too.
A little further of a walk would get you to Lark, Presse, Canon.
Best Burger in Seatown?
I've never had too bad of service trouble at the WB, certainly it's not white table cloth though. and I do love their burger. It's definitely a diner, and you're definitely paying $8 bucks for a sit down dinner, there's definitely cheez-its on your salad. But that's kind of what's great about it?
ISO great Seattle restaurant for rehearsal dinner
I have to say, having been to a rehersal dinner at Ponti, that I wouldn't recommend it. They do have a private room, and the setting was lovely--we started with drinks and snacks on the patio on a beautiful late summer evening.
However, they really didn't seem to understand how to do a private room dinner. There were about 30 guests, but by the 4th or 5th order of the two non-fish items (one meat, one vegetarian) they had run out. There were only, I believe about 5 choices entirely. Additionally, and I'm not sure how they managed this, they somehow forgot the sauce for the grooms entree and his dessert. Everyone else's arrived with sauce, just not his.
My friend's now husband was pretty irked at the service and menu issues, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone else, so while I don't usually tell one-off mishap stories, I feel it's pertinent here.
ISO a lunch stop near or in Seattle but before Tacoma and a dinner stop on the way back
Or as an additional stop, since like all good hounds, I'm confident greyelf could convince her buddies one more stop wouldn't hurt ;)
I just thought I would put a plug in for it, since it's absolutely fabulous and right on her route...
ISO a lunch stop near or in Seattle but before Tacoma and a dinner stop on the way back
I wouldn't go out of the way to hit the 5 spot. Honestly, the thought of sitting in a car for 2.5hrs after a 5 spot meal is not very pleasant, so to speak. If you want to eat on the early side, you could stop before Seattle for the best Mexican around in Chehalis (or on the way down if you hold out) at Taqueria Juquilita.
If you're coming through Seattle though...the world is your oyster--almost everything will be open, so it's just a matter of what you want to eat.
ISO a lunch stop near or in Seattle but before Tacoma and a dinner stop on the way back
Also, I'd add that mid-day on a Wednesday I can't imagine the drive from Seattle to Tacoma would be too bad...

Greyelf, knowing your level of high standards on Chinese food, I'd steer you away from the dim sum in Seattle...
Our Vietnamese food on the other hand....You could do Green Leaf or Tamarind Tree in the ID, just off the Dearborn exit, or go a little further to my personal favorite, Ben Thanh, on Rainier.
The Salvadorean Bakery in White Center is good, though it takes a little while, so perhaps the nearby Rosteceria El Paisano?
Last Minute Weekend Visit
In Redmond is Spicy Talk, some of the best Sichuan food in the city, for Friday night. Hitchcock on Bainbridge doesn't serve lunch, but their new deli will be open serving their housemade charcuterie in sandwich form.
Dressing casual will not prevent you from eating anywhere, not to worry.
Where to buy all-butter frozen puff pastry in Seattle?
Doesn't Grand Central sell their puff pastry frozen? Might be an option...
Sufficiently Noisy Sushi (without compromising quality of food)?
Umi and Nijo are both plenty loud and still manage to do great food. I hear good things about Wasabi Bistro, but it's TOO loud for me. My multiple experiences at Japonessa, while plenty loud have been near inedibly bad combined with god-awful service.
White Center Cajun/Creole Find
The pho in white center, I've tried a number...I think the best is restaurant 88...
White Center Cajun/Creole Find
So last I had checked in on them, they were still doing a diner-type menu during the day (not sure if it's a shared ownership, or if he only got around to changing the dinner menu?)--which is too bad, as I tend to be in WC around lunch time, since so many of the places around there are best at lunch time.
But I agree that it's sad about the 'foodie' population failing to get out there--case in point, my answer here, noticeably different than everyone else's: http://seattle.eater.com/archives/2011/12/28/friends-of-eater-pick-top-dining-neighborhoods-of-2011.php
Judy Fu Snappy Dragon
Just went to Chiang's last night, and I go often. Highly recommended. My favorites are the pan-fried shanghai noodles and the spicy fish fillet with roman lettuce, both off the 'chinese' menu (it's in English). There are also the larger sized 'American' chinese food menu and the green vegetarian menu. I recommend sticking to the Chinese menu, most stuff on there is the real deal.
Any Good Oyster Bar Happy Hour places in Seattle???
The classic reply here is Elliotts, but it's not super awesome, since you only get one type of oyster on the HH. I prefer Shuckers, where all of their oysters (usually 6-10 local varieties) are $1 each. And the parmesan crisps on the bar are free and good.
Dim sum to go- Bellevue
If you are driving up north, since you're heading to whidbey, you might hop off 405 at Mill creek and pop into Zen Garden. I think they're consistently some of the best in town, just not usually worth the drive to mill creek.
Review w/ photos: Izote de Patricia Quintana
Interesting, I found that our meal at Izote felt like a much better value than El Cardenal, but I suppose those differences make the world go round!
I highly recommend Azul Condesa (or Azul, though I haven't been, I understand it's just as good).
