The stars must be aligned just right.....Frenchie

Yes, a Friday. Moved Le Cinq to a Saturday purely to free up a week night for the multiple of restaurants that are closed on the weekends.

The stars must be aligned just right.....Frenchie

I called Frenchie this morning, phone answered on 1st ring, My requested date (1st week in October) was available. I confirmed it and thanked the pleasant woman who answered the phone - easy peasy!

2 of my 3 nights are now set for dinner (Frenchie & Le Cinq on a Saturday night). Any suggestions for my open night? I was thinking about trying The couple that were behind Hidden Kitchens new place....Verjus?

October Grand Birthday dinner in Paris

Thank you all...I made a reservation at Taillevent, but I think we will once again return to le Cinq, I am usually open to adventure, but at these price levels I think I will be at ease with the familiar. At least I know the flowers, the decor, the staff will be exceptional...and I have always raved about the food as well.

We are also hoping on trying Frenchie and the new wine bar from the owners of Hidden Kitchen (we loved hidden HK).

October Grand Birthday dinner in Paris

We have greatly enjoyed dinner at le Cinq on our past two trips to Paris and were beyond pleased. The food, the service, and the decor is beyond compare. This time we are wanting to try something different, my first thought was Guy Savoy - but I am leaning against it do to the setting. We are looking for a beautiful room along with great food!

I am now down to Alain Ducasse or Taillevent. Any Thoughts or suggestions?

Istanbul....

Hello all,

After doing my research on the boards I am still at a loss for where to go on our last night in Istanbul. It will be a Sunday evening in early November. We will also be celebrating my mother's birthday that evening - so looking for some place special. I have eliminated Topaz based on the reviews here, I am also undecided about Tugra at The Ciragan Palace. Anyone have a recomendation for a really special place? I don't mind expensive but I want it to be worth it.

Also, we will be staying at the W Hotel and would apreciate a good lead of where to grab dinner close to the hotel on our first night. We will be arriving after a long flight and have a 5:30 am pick up for a flight to Izmir the following morning. Would Zubeyir be a good choice for a casual meal?

I am also set with Antiochia for another evening and Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab for a lunch stop between the Spica Market and Bazaar excursions.

Any other "not to miss" places?

Than you!

Anyone know anything about Topaz in Istanbul?

I am looking for a great restaurant to to celebrate a special birthday. The concierge at my hotel has recommended Mikla (surprised be such bad reviews on here!) and Topaz. I can't seem to find much info on Topaz - can anyone offer their opinion? Or suggest another restaurant with good traditional Turkish food, great views, and a special feel!1

Thank you!

The Lounge at Daniel or.......?

This is for the Weekend of November 6-8. Reservations for Eleven Madison Park open this Saturday, so I was wondering if I should just get a reservation there and forget about Daniel all together...or hold out for a cancellation. Thanks

The Lounge at Daniel or.......?

My sister, her husband, and I are taking our mother on a surprise trip to NYC for her 70th birthday (She is always head to toe Armani, Chanel and Manolo Blahniks,,,,not your blue haired old lady variety of 70). I had wanted to do a Saturday night dinner at Daniel followed by the 10:30 set at Feinsteins, however the American Express Concierge messed up my reservation request and Daniel is booked! Now I must choose between a table in the lounge at Daniel or choose somewhere else. I was thinking Eleven Madison Park or Aisiate? Interested in others opinions - is a table in the lounge at Daniel better than any other option - and hope for a cancellation in the main dining room?

FYI - We have late dinner reservations on Friday at Minetta Tavern after a show. So I am really looking for amazing food and luxe environment for Saturday night.

Thank you!

Sorry...I'll clarify. I am looking for an elegant restaurant in SF and as far as wine county goes, we wont have a lot of time to tour so driving straight to the restaurant so it doesnt matter where it is located. I am looking for a warm atmosphere in a chef driven room. I was thinking Ad Hoc or Bouchon....and suggestions?

Paris Reviews

Thank you to all that made suggestions for my recent trip to Paris - just wanted to recap with some quick reviews.

Le Cing - AMAZING!!! I can’t imagine any other 3 star restaurants getting any better than this. The room is stunningly beautiful; the service is refined yet effortless. The staff were amazingly unstuffy and relaxed yet true professionals. My dinning partner was delighted at the stool that was presented for her handbag.

We chose the Gourmet tasting menu and were going to go with the accompanying wines, but were led to believe that that might be overkill. It was suggested, and we went along with, a grand cru Chablis for the seafood courses, a heartier red for the red meat course, and a dessert wine to finish. Every course was better than the previous. We even thought about returning the two nights later for dinner again....but decided to save it for our next trip.

Grand Colbert - Yes, we went there because of the movie! A complete disapointment!!! The food was uninspired and bland. The service rushed and unfriendly.

Au Bon Accuill - Thank you for this gem of a recommendation. After visiting the Eiffel Tower we strolled over here for dinner. The small and intimate room has a warm and elegant feel. The staff was wonderful and the food beautifully executed and presented. And by Parisian standards....quite reasonable.

We were planning on doing the E70 Lunch and I was going to allow 2 hours - is that rushing it? We have 12:30 reservations and a 6:50 flight.

Best place to get a peanut butter cookie?

Carol's Cookies are amazing! Locally they are available at Neiman Marcus on Michigan Avenue and most Whole Foods. They are locally made and are about 2'' thick in the middle! I believed she won a spot on the 10 Best Cookie list people magazine did awhile back.

Paris Restaurant advice!!!

I need a little help

We have reservations at Le Cinq and Le Grand Colbert and it's a habit of mine to go to Brasserie Bofinger every time I am in Paris. I just need one more restaurant to round out this trip. I'll admit I more concearned with atmosphere than amazing food....that said I still want a good restaurant.

Aux Lyonnais maybe???
