Help with freezer to microwave meals please! Yes, he can cook for himself. I should have clarified further. Housing regulations prevent them from having any type of electric grill or stove top. I will have to find out about the toaster. My jaw dropped when I heard this, but I've been asking around and a couple of other people I've talked to have said they have seen/experienced this with on campus housing. Thanks for the ideas! |

Help with freezer to microwave meals please! I going up to visit my younger brother who just started grad school, and I offered to bring some food to stock up his freezer. The problem is, his tiny studio doesn't have a stove, only a fridge and microwave. Most recipes that adapt well for the freezer (lasagna, casseroles) require an oven to bake them. So other than a few soup recipes (chili and tortilla soup) I'm stumped on what else to make. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks! |

Moving to North County, need restaurant recommendations I've lived in central SD for the last 10 years, but now we're moving up to the Poway/PQ area. I'm not too familar with this area, but a quick google search shows that it's mainly chains here. Help, there have to be some hidden gems around! I'm familiar with some good vietnamese & indian restaurants in the Mira Mesa area, but I could use some recommendations for other great restaurants in this new area... Any good breakfast locations? Fine dining or even quick places to stop and pick up dinner? One upside is I've always wanted to try House on the Hill, but never made the drive up. Any thoughts? Thanks guys! |

Best non dairy milks, how to use them and other tips? Oh, perfect topic! I am trying to plan Thanksgiving dinner with a guest who has a milk allergy. I would love any inputs regarding cooking with non-dairy milk as well... |

Would love to replicate "Pill Pockets" for dogs Not a recipe for Pill Pockets, but I've found that bananas work great. |

what's the place called, if you don't mind me asking? I'm always on the lookout for super spicy, but well flavored Thai food in SD. |

My aggravation with this takes a different turn. If I'm making something that calls for a 15 oz can, which the author is assuming is a standard size, and they have now been downsized to 12 oz., I'm now forced to buy 2 cans just to get back to my original amount. ugh. |

What is "Americanized" Chinese food? Hmm, I'm Indian and use the term "Indian food"... And on that note, do Chinese people call themselves Chinese or do they specify what province they're from? I think it's just for simplicity. Or laziness. |

San Diego: Thai for a group of 10 on Friday My vote is for Karinya Thai in Pacific Beach. |

Why can't I get bread in an Asian restaurant? Looks like Panda Express is responding to your request. I heard a commercial on the radio yesterday that they're now offering wraps =) |

I love onion rings, especially when they're not cut too thick, and not too thickly battered. They should be thin enough that you can bite into them without having the entire onion come sliding out. I've been on a quest to satisfy my craving recently... Any suggestions? |

Amazon carries a couple of brands too, and I tend to prefer the Monin brand myself. Good luck! |

Won't give me water with my meal??? This somewhat happened to me at a Starbucks recently. I ordered two drinks and also asked for a cup of ice water- I was told that they can provide me with water, but no ice. Store policy. It makes no sense, but they were so rude about it I've taken my business elsewhere ever since. |

ooh, agreed! |

Why would one want a ladies menu? There are several other threads on this already; hopefully this helps. |

pear chips [Moved from Home Cooking] I've bought some really good ones at the Harry & David stores, (lightly sweetened and also thin & crisp) but I tried looking for them online and couldn't find them. If you've got one close by, it might be worth calling! |

An old roommate of mine used to put salt on pomegranate seeds, and I've been hooked on it ever since. In this case I don't think it enhanced the sweetness, but rather complemented the taste of the fruit. |

Which snacks to beat pre-dinner munchies/diet sabotage? I've been looking for this recipe, thanks! |

There's a new restaurant that opened up on Convoy St. (in the same shopping center as Yogurt World actually) that claims to specialize in crawfish. I haven't been there yet, but if you're interested I'll look it up next time I satisfy my yogurt cravings =) |

Any idea as to how long these will last? |

Need to use up some phyllo dough--no spanakopita please I found this recipe online a few weeks ago, and I've been dying to try it ever since. They're quite simple, and look beautiful... |

Free Tap Water in Restaurants [moved from California board] Interesting... I'm tempted to perform a little CH investigation, and stop by myself. I'll try to swing by this weekend, and ask for tap water too! I'm assuming that you were ordering food or other items in addition to the water? |

Naan is thicker, cooked in a clay oven, rises a bit so it's fluffier... similar to pita bread Rotis are thinner and don't have yeast so they don't rise, cooked on a flat surface like a griddle...similar to a tortilla |
|
|
yes, they are. I know some indian sweets are decorated with gold or silver leaf, and it's completely edible. |

Chocolate for Mom -- Suggestions Please I love Chuao chocolates, they've got some of the most innovative and delicate truffles I've seen. I think they're only in southern california, but they do have an online store. They can be a little pricey, but if you're comparing them to Godiva, I think the quality is far superior. http://www.chuaochocolatier.com/ Might be a little late for christmas.... maybe mother's day? |

Well put. They can also be made with a wide range of foods, which might help you find a flavor you like more. There are tomato, lemon, mango, garlic (my favorite), shrimp & even fish (to name a few). I was even adventurous enough to make a kumquat pickle one year... I'd say give it another shot, but this is really one of those condiments where less is key. |
