Favorite specialty food shops (DEN)?

What are your favorite food shops around Denver that specialize in something? I'm thinking the Bagel Store on Monaco for bagels and challah, the Truffle for cheese, Continental Sausage for meats, etc.

Running Post - DRW Reviews

We ate at Shazz on Sunday and they put together a nice menu for DRW. The appetizers were very small portions, but nice presentation and flavors. They served a lemon sorbet as a palette cleanser that was delicious. Among our group we tried all three entrees and they were all nicely presented. The two desserts were really lackluster - not creative or very flavorful. It was a good excuse to try this place out, but I would have been disappointed if it wasn't at RW prices.

Best restaurants in Denver?

I second Fruition.

Need Great Restaurant Downtown Denver on a Tight Budget

I would suggest Wynkoop Brewing Company, which has an old, wood-paneled atmosphere. Marco's Coal-Fired Pizza also has a good atmosphere and is not too expensive. Also Osteria Marco, you'll have to check out the menu to see if it is more dough than you want to spend.

Need Denver Burger Recommendations

City Grille is downtown and has a very good burger. If you're here on Monday they have a burger, fries and beer for $6.95, but the regular price is still under $10.

My Brother's Bar is downtown, haven't tried the burger but it gets good reviews. Cherry Cricket is another local fave, not downtown. Vine Street Pub has a good burger with grass-fed beef, not too far from downtown on 17th, great beer too.

Udon in Denver?

I like Kiki's on Colorado Blvd. for udon.

Please review my Denver shortlist

If you want a burger, I would hit City Grille (downtown near the Capitol) instead of Cherry Cricket. Honestly they are comparable. If you are there on a Monday, you get a burger, fries and a beer for $6.95.

Anyone seen kabocha squash lately (DEN)?

I've tried Whole Foods, Safeway and Sunflower and all I see is acorn, spaghetti, and butternut. Anyone seen kabocha or any different varieties lately? I should have bought one at the farmer's market back in November!

Source for Lady Fingers-Denver

I buy them at Spinelli's Market in Park Hill.

Questions about Fruition-Denveer

Fruition is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. You could get away with jeans with a collared shirt or sweater, but most diners are business casual. Entrees are in the $20-30 range. I always recommend a reservation for Fruition, they stay busy.
You can check menu, hours, etc. on their website: http://www.fruitionrestaurant.com/.

Braised Pork Belly in Denver

I've loved the pork belly at Rioja both times I've had it, the preparation changes but it is usually on the menu. Bones usually has pork belly on the menu, I haven't tried it.

Best Denver splurge?

Normally my top pick is Fruition, but i also just had a wonderful meal on Friday at Barolo Grill.

Asian Good Eats (Denver)

I think Kiki's is pretty good too for udon and tempura on a cold night. I did not think the yakisoba was anything special and wouldn't recommend the sushi over other places.

Asian Good Eats (Denver)

For pho, I think Pho 95 on Federal at Mississippi is the best.

Oh Denver, we're hungry.

I usually go to D'Corazon for mexican food in the central biz district.

City Grille has a really good burger downtown (with or without green chile), anyone had their buffalo burger?

Dining solo in Denver- need advice please!

Downtown I would try Panzano or Mici. Rioja in LoDo has bar dining. You should also be served well dining solo at Luca d'Italia, Fruition and other fine dining establishments without bars (within 10 minutes drive of downtown).

Denver, here we come

Ditto Snooze, my favorite breakfast spot. They also do good weekday lunch. Wynkoop Brewery will probably fit the bill for good beer and decent, affordable eats too. My Brother's Bar has good burgers and brews. Marco's Coal-Fired Pizza in LoDo is my other pick for affordable and tasty.
For good Mexican, you have to leave downtown. Hop a cab to the Highlands (not far) to Taqueria Patzcuaro. There are some other good eats in the Highlands if you want to venture out, some are a bit pricier - Z Cuisine (restaurant) and A Cote (bar), Duo, Root Down, Vita.

Denver Downtown Cheap and Cheerful

This recent link has some recs in LoDo (Lower Downtown): http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/621282

What is the best vegetarian meal you've had in Denver?

Watercourse Foods - vegetarian/vegan restaurant, Po Boy and Macro plate are tasty.

Snooze for breakfast/brunch - This is my top pick, veggie or not, but they have some really good veggie options including the Namaste pancakes, breakfast burrito, and Garden benedict.

WHERE TO EAT IN DENVER, CO

Fruition, Luca d'Italia, Rioja, Barolo Grill are my picks.

Show me the Yummy in Denver!

Mexican is pretty cheap so that might be your best bet. Again Taqueria Patzcuaro is a favorite, and there are lots of others if you do a search for previous posts. Good luck!

Show me the Yummy in Denver!

It might be difficult to eat at Rioja or Panzano on your budget but you can get creative or just do entrees. Panzano has a good happy hour with specials on apps and pizzas until 6pm. Mici (italian) gets pretty good reviews and My Brother's Bar has good burgers.

You might try some places in the Highlands, which is just northwest of downtown. Root Down, Lola, Vita, Z Cuisine, Duo. Again if you order right you could probably stay under budget. A Cote, the bar attached to Z Cuisine, is generally lower priced and has a $12 menu deal going on Tuesday nights. And Denver is known for mexican food, which is generally affordable. Taqueria Patzcuaro and quite a few others in the Highlands are popular.

Good eats near Loew's (Cherry Creek area) and Grand Hyatt?

I would recommend Tambien for mexican in Cherry Creek or Cherry Cricket is a Denver stand-by if you are in the mood for burgers and beer. Cucina Colore is also pretty popular, I haven't been there. Cherry Creek is an upscale area, so not too many cheap eats other than chain type places. For coffee, try Ink Coffee.

The 16th St. Mall has a free shuttle to Lodo so downtown you could try Osteria Marco for lunch Saturday. Try the Market on Larimer for breakfast or bakery items, they are one of the few places downtown that opens at 6am every day.

DENVER - truly amazing food?

I lived in NYC for a while and I would definitely skip Italian, Japanese, and seafood here in Denver. The items I consider unique would be green chile and Mexican, and microbrews (more per capita than any state).

Do a search for mexican and you will get lots of recs. For microbrews, Vine St. Pub on 17th Street has some great stuff, or you can find New Belgium, O'Dell's, Flying Dog, Breckenridge and others around town.

I would also recommend Snooze for a very solid brunch (it does get very busy as previous poster mentioned but not so different from NY, expect to wait an hour on the weekends).

Dive loving Foodie coming to Denver - Need Recs!!

I would recommend Dazzle for happy hour, and I second M&D's for BBQ. Don't go to M&D's on Sunday, they get a big post-church crowd.

Nice Italian in Denver

I've been to Luca and Barolo (not Il Posto) and both are very good. Luca has a bit more formal atmosphere than Barolo, which is a little larger/more bustling. It is hard to say which is better, but I guess I would choose Luca if I could only do one. Good luck!

Have we talked Denver Restaurant Week yet?

Anyone else go to Mizuna? It was my first visit and I was underwhelmed to say the least. The appetizers were not innovative or particularly delicious. I did enjoy the pork tenderloin entree. The dessert, a brownie bread pudding, sounded delicious but it had very little chocolate flavor. I thought Rioja was much better.

Was this just an example of a successful restaurant not putting much effort in for DRW?

Need some Denver Recommendations

Fruition and Rioja are my favorite places in Denver right now, and both have a romantic atmosphere. Rioja is quite a bit larger than Fruition, and I think Fruition is "cozy" rather than cramped. They are both pretty well-known by locals, but I'm sure that will just impress this lady of yours!
Potager also would fit the bill for small/romantic and is not as well-known. Luca d'Italia is romantic and very dimly-lit. I would not suggest Mizuna based on your scenario - it is very well-known and IMO underwhelming.

Have we talked Denver Restaurant Week yet?

Went to Rioja on Saturday night. Despite the crowds, service was very attentive. The full menu is offered with upcharges on several items, but I would prefer this to a very limited menu. Everything was outstanding. Notable items were the squash salad, lemon gnocchi topped with crabmeat, and the beignets stuffed with goat cheese and figs were heavenly. I will definitely go back. Rioja has extended through next week so it's worth a shot to get a rez there.
