Best Korean or authentic Chinese (any region) in Shoreline? Dinner out tonight!
For lunch, they let groups of two use the grills. (Or at least they did as of a few months ago)
Disappointed in Benito's Chicago Eatery (Ballard) - a review
So, with the closing of Taste of Chicago and this place leaving something lacking, where can a fan of Chicago food get themselves a half decent Italian Beef?
Disappointed in Benito's Chicago Eatery (Ballard) - a review
AND I hear they don't have the pizza puffs that I was hopeful for...
(BTW, you nailed it on the unpretentious thing about Chicago foods. Chicago is one of the my favorite food cities in the country, and I could never really put my finger on why, but I think this is it.)
Where to buy meaty, local ribs?
Doesn't meet your anti-factory farm requirement, but Safeway sells an extra meaty rib cut that I often use for my bbq ribs.
You're talking pork, right?
Falafel?
I'm not a huge fan of Garlic Crush's falafel (love the gyros and meat plate though)
I'll mention a couple more on the Ave that are worth consideration. Samir's on 43rd (or so) and the Gyro-cery just another block or two down University Way .
Best Oysters at Best Price in Seattle?
Have you been to Elliott's happy hour recently?
It may just be me, but I went a few weeks back and it's not what it was before and just not worth the hassle... I'm not recommending it anymore except to self-proclaimed "foodies" who may be excited about such a crowded annoying thing that other people are doing.
The new one I've been meaning to check is the Innkeeper over in Belltown. They have a $1 oyster happy hour and I recall seeing kumamotos are part of their selection.
Central American Food in Seattle?
Guanaco's (in the Udistrict and Cap Hill) and Tiko Riko (up toward Holman Road) also some mix of Salvadorean/Latin American stuff.
I like both, although I haven't been to Guanaco's in a while.
And food trucks near the Convention Center?
I don't know... I've been three times over the past 5 years or so and each time the meat's been stringy (cut the wrong way), kind of dry (not helped by the "with-the-grain" cutting) and just not particularly tasty.
Group Lunch in University District Area
Their Happy Hour used to be pretty sweet, but they taken off some of the better items and raised the prices on other. It's still not a bad place to go though.
Group Lunch in University District Area
I'd cross I-5 westward to Wallingford/Green Lake.
Maybe Elysian or the Publican in Tangletown where there are many beers to be had.
Or maybe South across the University Bridge to Eastlake Bar & Grill, which doesn't have great food, but servicable and kind of nice for out of towners with a nice view of Gas works and Lake Union.
All of those are pretty nice places to hang out for a while.
And food trucks near the Convention Center?
Disagree. I'm usually not a hater, but it's unclear to me how people can keep claiming this as a good corned beef sandwich. I've been a couple of times and appreciate its old-school-nature and might go back again (just out of a sense of a supporting a long-time Seattle business) but their meat is dry and overly salty.
need suggestions for where to eat and what to do this weekend
La Isla, a Puerto Rican spot, might be my favorite not super popular spot around Ballard, highly underrated. Good, unique food, decent cocktails and a great aged rum selection. Although, don't go on a date unless you want each other to smell like garlic for the rest of the day.
San Francisco Hound Coming to Seattle: Please Critique My List for the Emerald City!!!
That's what I keep telling people about Molly Moon's. There ice creams are ok , but the stuff they use for their sundaes are top notch.
People are hating on MM's in another thread (and in this one), but I feel like not enough people get sundae's there. Credit where credit is due.
small chickens
Not to turn this into a discussion on the relative merits of fancy local producers vs. factory farmed foods (which will no doubt be flagged by the Chowhound overlords), but I don't think this is as cut and dried as you'd think.
I remembered this specific article about fancy, homegrown and regular eggs.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/01/AR2010060100792.html
I'll fully admit my biases being a 69 cents a pound chicken guy, who believes in preparation and technique to bring out the best tastes.
Kinder Eggs?
Pretty sure Alpenland in Mercer Island has them. Plan your trip for a Friday (maybe Thursdays too) and you can get their AWESOME fresh pretzels, or pretzels rolls, which is my preference.
another BBQ disappointment
A couple of new ones worth a try in Ballard. Bitterroot and Boar's Nest.
At Bitterroot, try the brisket and the pulled pork. The sauces are not very good, but the sides are excellent. A little pricey, but worth it if they are as consistent as they have been in my two visits.
Didn't love Boar's Nest as much, but brisket had potential and the pulled pork was respectable. Much more of a quick, cheap spot though.
Where to find Pizza Puffs in Seattle?
I hadn't heard that Taste of Chicago had closed. That's sad to hear. Really liked the guy who ran it.
There's a new Chicago spot opening up in Ballard called Benito's but they've been slow in getting off the ground.
Is Nook ever open?
It's literally a two-person operation, so things can happen. (I guess you could call to see if they're open)
That said, I've only once had a problem finding them open when they were supposed to be (there was a note on the door saying they were sick).
I love their biscuits. They go with the crispy outside kind (which I prefer), rather than the fluffy all-around kind.
local brews especially ipas
I don't know... Maritime, to me, represents the excessively hopped beers that became the cliched calling card of NW beers earlier in the 2000s.
I think the best stuff now has toned it down a good and is looking for more balance. I think Lucille from Georgetown is probably my fav right now. And of course, Black Raven's Trickster, if you can ever find it.
local brews especially ipas
Really? I've never had a problem at Taphouse. Not my favorite place, but id this guy's downtown sans car, it's where I'd steer him. (Collins Pub is good too)
Beyond downtown, my favorites are Naked City and Latona Pub.
A fun little "beer tour" if you have the time/car would be to swing down to Sodo for Georgetown, Two Beers, Epic and Schooner. Oh and I hear Emerald City Brewery (Dottie's) at the Old Ranier brewery has a taproom now.
Capitol Hill Rec, please
But Presse is barely french right? I mean, you don't have to be in a mood for French to enjoy a croque madame and a glass of wine, or that awesome half chicken they do. (actually, I'm not even sure what's on their menu besides those two items. Pretty sure I've never gotten anything else...) That'd be my call, except I don't know that they do reservations, and 8 on a weekend night will be tough.
Culinary Road Trip! - Greater Seattle Recommendations (From Vancouver)
For all the excessive-hype people give Molly Moon's over their ice cream, their sundaes are really, really good.
missing cheesesteak
Surprisingly good cheesesteak at Vito's on Madison. Wasn't expecting much, but tasty meat on a fresh Central bakery roll, less authentic than others but really good (and at Happy Hour, it's only $5 or $6...)
Best Burger in Seatown?
Yeah, i didn't really like Uneeda until i had their basic burger (both the fancy and the regular) All the "specialty" burgers are almost over doing it, with too many tastes and flavors that overwhelm the burger itself.
It's still not my favorite in the city or anything, but don't make a judgement until you have a non-specialty burger.
86 Spring Hill, Welcome Ma'ono Chicken & Whisky
I was actually kind of disappointed both time i went by their brunch, but that was a few years ago.
They don't do much, I have LOVED every dessert I've had there. Especially all the ice creams.
ISO a lunch stop near or in Seattle but before Tacoma and a dinner stop on the way back
How about dim sum somewhere in Chinatown. It's easy to get to right off the Dearborn exit from I-5. Different people will pick different places as a favorite. Jade Garden is kind of the default (and it's good), but I'm a fan of Tea Garden (especially if you get in at an "off-peak" time, since they will do stuff to order) and New Kowloon on Jackson.
Couple of nice spots off the Swift and Albro exit in Georgetown too. Hangar Cafe would be a nice light meal (although I don't what they do for gluten free...) and Jules Mae does some nice food.
If you want to be adventurous, take the Kent-Des Moines road exit, hang a right, and then a left at the light to cruise down International Blvd/Pacific Highway until you find an authentic looking Vietnamese or Mexican spot. I'm willing to bet you'll have a damn good meal as good (better?) than anything a "foodie" would tell you about in Seattle proper.
Restaurants near Safeco Field
I felt like the beef had more flavor and i got the processed yellow cheese. But I'm sort of a classicist that way who likes a cheesesteak in the Philly-style. (Which is why I've never like Grinders). I could see how others would prefer Tat's.
And i still say Hey Paison in Burien sells the best under any criteria.
(I think they have a Groupon or something right now too)
Anyone eaten at Gaudi near U Village? Opinions please?
I thought it was ok. No real raves, but nothing terrible. I'd stick to tapas, though, as I remember the paella not being great. I didn't have issues with service (maybe it was alittle slow, but nothing abnormal) or lighting.
Seattle specialties
Grilled onions, not sriracha!
I like spicy mustard with mine too.
Restaurants near Safeco Field
I'm a fan of the Tatstami (and I think the fries) at Tat's, but I'd say that Calozzi's ( in the location where Tat's used to be) serves up a better cheesesteak.
