Dekalb Farmers Market! Dense, chewy, and didn't desperately need a dose of salt to taste like something (like Goldberg's). We've only had the sesame, but the others should be great, too. Between this and the frozen bialies at Publix - if I can ever find them again - I'm a happy girl. Now if I could only find just the right Chinese and Italian...

'New York' or old-school Cantonese Chinese Food?

We just ventured out on our first Chinese restaurant expedition and it was successful! ahhhh, what a relief, we just went to a pal e in our neighborhood called Golden Buddha and it was really good and tasted really familiar. We only had soup, wonton and hot and sour, lo mien and Mongolian beef but it was really great, tasty, not greasy and very generous. Our next outing is definitely going to be be Fortune Cookie. I saw pictures of the food on Yelp and it looked like the real thing. I'll post after. Thanks again,

'New York' or old-school Cantonese Chinese Food?

Hi.

We're moving to ATL this summer and this is our major craving after being out of the states for 4 years. My comfort food meal of choice would be wonton soup, spare ribs, fried rice, and an egg roll. Ahhhhhhhh. There are plenty of other things I'd like to have, but these I NEED!!! My spousal unit is somewhat more flexible.

Thanks for your help.

How & why did all the burgers in Toronto/Ontario morph into meatloaf?

I am now officially obsessed! I'm re-posting my mini-rant in the hope that someone can explain, or at least acknowledge the truth.

Okay - here's the deal - according to me, anyway! 99.99% of burgers in Toronto are not burgers at all; they are meatloaf. And the only 2 actual burgers I've had in T.O. are Johnnyburgers ok if you're desperate & have practically forgotten what that real thing tastes like. The other is Allen's - GREAT! Great meat, no shmutz in it, cooked how you want it because there are no eggs that have to be cooked into submission before you eat your meatloaf. Great bun, ripe tomatoes, beyond great fries.

What I can't figure out is how everyone seems to have forgotten what a real burger is - I was here a few years ago & had a Lick's burger - not great, but not meatloaf. And now, not only are all the burgers seasoned - they're all seasoned exactly the same!!! Are they all the same frozen crap?! And if you ask anyone why the burgers have so much stuff in them, they say things like 'you have to hold the meat together' or 'they'd be boring' or 'that's the way they've always been' - I feel like I'm going crazy. And yet, there are a few Torontonians who can appreciate a burger like Allens. Go figure!

No - good breakfast? Normal, non-quirky owner?

Has anyone ever been irritated by the owner of this otherwise pretty good greasy spoon? The food is solid, but I find myself not wanting to go because of the unpleasantness the guy exudes. It's as if he feels that the job of working at a restaurant is somehow beneath him. He deliberately ignores requests (for fun?), is always sarcastic, makes snide, totally unsolicited comments, and is difficult for no reason. I find myself praying that I won't be seated at the front of the place where he normally presides. I suspect some will say that his quirky personality is an antidote to the generally bland and indifferent treatment on offer at other establishments. While I like personality, this guy makes the whole thing toxic.

We go to Buffalo every 6-8 weeks to stock up on lots of things we're used to but can't get here. Where do you get the Hebrew National hot dogs? I need them...baaaad!

0% greek style yogurt

Wegman's - there are a bunch. And they have much to recommend them in addition to the yoghurt. The selection & prices are amazing - definitely check out the 'drugstore-type' area.

Petit Dejeuner =

Petite brains? Apple cole slaw, with a light Russian-ish dressing....with pancakes? I think NOT. With eggs, okay, if you must. But not with sweet food. And less than 1 hour to get coffee & food, that would work. But almost nothing here does, including those pancakes, which were bland & bready AND undercooked in the center. Mmmmmmm, tasty! The search for a decent breakfast in TO continues....
