Baby Friendly Restaurant in Chapel Hill
I'm visiting Chapel Hills this weekend with a group of girlfriends and we all enjoy good food - whether local hole in the walls or gourmet, except we are traveling with two small children (under 1 year.)
Can anyone recommend a good local place that would be appropriate for the little ones, but still have great food? We are looking for lunch and dinner spots.
Thanks!
January in OBX
Blue Moon is the newcomer in town and is fantastic. Try the Mahi BLT.
Mama's is always a great option. I believe they are closing the 17th though.
Roadside is fabulous and does a great lunch too if they are open.
KDH Grill is reopening on the 20th I think.
Sugar Shack - I could take it or leave it.
Don't miss Food Dudes. My new favorite. It's amazing and very reasonably priced but a hole in the wall.

Norfolk, VA - dinner before a show
Thank you! This is the best news I've heard all day. I was so bummed we wouldn't be there for restaurant week. Thanks krisishere!
Norfolk, VA - dinner before a show
I have tickets to a show at Chrysler Hall this weekend and am looking for recs for a good place to have dinner before the show. Mid-range or below price wise, good wine selection, local flavor. I don't eat red meat, but other than that I'm open to any cuisine.
Thanks!
paleta recipes?
Does anyone know of a good source for paleta recipes? The only online recipes I can seem to find are all the same versions from Sunset Magazine, which I had little success with - the banana one was just gross- and the LA Times article that includes a cucumber chili recipe.
I'd love to make some to ring in the summer season.
Cinco de Mayo in Raleigh?
One more question if I may...what are the house specialties at Dos Taquitos? The menu looks great - I don't want to miss any of the dishes that come highly recommended.
Cinco de Mayo in Raleigh?
thanks for the input so far. I think Dos Taquitos sounds like a great choice but I'll keep mez in mind as a back up. I think I'll stop by the french pastry place first and grap a breakfast for the following morning's flight. thanks!
Cinco de Mayo in Raleigh?
We are actually staying by the airport but will be driving in from the OBX, so we could stop on the way to our airport hotel if the restaurant in on the way.
I guess North or West Raleigh would be best?
Outer Banks WEdding - HELP!
I live in the OBX and got married here in 2006. I also recommend Kelley's - they have been doing catering for a long time here and know what they are doing. I didn't use them for my wedding only because they were out of my budget.
I've never heard of Carolina Catering Company and Good Life Gourmet has changed hands several times so I'm not sure of the current owners catering.
I was in a friend's wedding who used Katering by Kim for her wedding and she was throughly unsatisfied. She does do creative touches and is very imaginative, but is pretty pricey and as mentioned by VBeatso, there were several large complaints about taking down things early, opening 20 extra bottles of wine, etc. Just my two cents.
Black Pelican could be another one to look into. They have a great restaurant and I was really impressed at their spread at the OBX wedding expo. Check out the NC boards on The Knot too. They have great advice.
Good luck and congratulations!
Cinco de Mayo in Raleigh?
Thanks for the info rockycat. I appreciate the distinction...and since I am celebrating the Americanization of a Mexican holiday, how about some American Tex-Mex to accompany it. Not quite looking for oxtail or tongue tacos or anything truly authentic, a little more mainstream foodwise but definately a chow joint, ie. a hole in the wall is ok.
Cinco de Mayo in Raleigh?
Can anyone recommend a great Mexican restaurant for Cinco de Mayo in the Raleigh area? I will be staying for one night before flying out to Vegas in the morning and would love to celebrate with some good food and margaritas.
Best Prix Fixe in Vegas?
thanks groovingourmet. i might have to break down and do it. Any idea how much a cab is round trip, approximately?
Planter's Cheez Balls
never heard of them. I'll have to check them out. Where did you find them?
Best Prix Fixe in Vegas?
Looking for a great prix fixe dinner for DH and I for our trip in May. We want to splurge one night and I'm thinking that a prix fixe may be the best way to do it? Alex is a litte out of our range at 125 per person and I've looked at DB Boulard's early menu but wasn't really thrilled with the choices. We are staying on the strip with no car access so Rosemary's might be out. Any other suggestions?
Best Gelato in Vegas
Thank you all so much. Will do a taste comparison of J-P and Enoteca. I love salted caramel so we may just go for that. Thanks for the heads up Debbie W on the type of restaurant.
We are staying on the strip w/o a car, so I don't know if we will make it to Le Golosita but you will have to report back kjs.
Best Gelato in Vegas
I'm on a quest for gelato in vegas in may. Where can I find the best?
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
thanks...i'll look into that. i'm assuming they sell show tickets at a discount as well?
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
i'm not a burger fan but husband is...and we don't have a Gordon Biersch where I live so I'm willing to check it out...especially if it involves garlic fries!
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
great recs. i love a good crepe so i'll check out paris and craftwich as well. We had a similar strategy for for eating - one large expensive meal a day and fill in the rest with cheaper tasty options.
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
Funny you mention that kjs....i totally agree with you. most the the vegas requests are for cheap chow from people staying at high end hotels. I also would rather stay at a cheaper option and spend more money on food because really, how much time are you going to spend lounging in your hotel room when you are in vegas? We are actually considering staying at Bill's Gamling Saloon (formerly Barbary Coast) because of it's good reviews on Tripadvisor.
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
Justjenn- thank you so much for broadening the pool of applicants. I have poured over the post and do indeed find the same 7 or so fine establishments mentioned. I have made notes on them but wanted suggestions for exactly what you offered. I know that there will be excellent options that are not accesable to me b/c of the limitations of my requests but sincerlely appreciate you suggestion the "best of the rest" that fit into the catagory I framed. You gave me exactly what I was looking for....I'll look into them, especially the Planet Hollywood buffet, peppermill and firefly.
Of course, other recs are welcomed as well.
TDQ - thank you for your insight as well. You are right on the nature of the beast recommdation wise but it is good to hear that when a place gets mentioned over and over again- it may be worth my extra dollar. I've read your post extensively - what great info. I felt like I was there, especially with the pictures.
We do plan to go to Downtown one day so I will check out Main Street Station.
I should also mention that we are willing to walk and explore for good eats. Since our stay is sort of brief at 5 days, we aren't renting a car, but will walk or take the deuce, etc. to hike for some food.
Thank you both so much for the insight!
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
we are still working on accommodations but probably mid strip - bellagio, flamingo area.
have not had the wynn buffet, but was a big fan of the bellagio lunch buffet. That's definitely on my to-do list.
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
Thanks for the recommendations!
After reading past reviews, I definately want to try Lotus of Siam. Looks fantastic.
I love on the NC coast, so I will look into Boulud's prix fixe. Considering Bouchon as well, probably for breakfast but I have eaten at their Yountville location years ago before I knew better so I don't really remember how fabulous it was.
Vegas for two: Chow for the middle class
Husband and I will be visiting Vegas for 4 days in May for the first time together. We were looking for some chow and after reading the boards it looks like everything is really cheap (under $12) or too budget busting (over $40-50 an entree).
We are staying on the strip without a car, so I know this is an oxymoron to ask for reasonably priced good food, but I can't seem to find any options reading past posts.
We live on the coast, so seafood is not a must, but if a place is worth it.... Not really interested in steak. Don't mind buffets as long as they aren't gross. Any other cuisine is an option. We are adventurous, love good beer, good wine, great food. Any help would be appreciated.
Ahhh living the life of champagne taste on a bottled beer budget...
Baja Fresh Salsa Recipe?
Does anyone have the recipe for Baja Fresh's Salsa Baja - the really dark, almost black salsa recipe? The closest store is 4 hours from my house and I'm jonesing for their salsa....please. help. a. woman. who. needs. a. Mexican. food. fix.!
Chow for One in Fayetteville, NC
Thanks carolinadawg. I'll check it out. I went to UGA for grad school - Go Dawgs! I miss Athens food.
Chow for One in Fayetteville, NC
I am heading to Fayetteville for business later this week and am looking for somewhere to have lunch and dinner for two nights. I'll be a party of one, so somewhere where I can eat at a bar or in the restaurant alone without looking conspicuous in a military town.
Any kind of cuisine, moderately priced, suggestions are appreciated! Thanks.
Hampton Roads, VA: Where should we eat next?
Does anyone know anything about Tilted Table? I was thinking about going there next week for restaurant week and can't find any reviews or any information on it.
VA Beach Restaurant Week Recommendations?
Hi,
I was hoping to drive up from the OBX to eat out for VB Restaurant week but am not overly familiar with the choices. Anyone have any recs for good chow among the choices?

Help please! NY Chowhounds need recs for Myrtle Beach/Little River for January trip
Husband and I went to Myrtle Beach in November and had breakfast at the Sea Captain's House in Myrtle - it was fantastic. Great breakfast, awesome views of the ocean, nice atmosphere in a old house by the water.
Drunken Jacks in Murrells Inlet has been a family favorite for years - out of this world hushpuppies and fried seafood.
Best meal we had was at Benny Rappas in North Myrtle. Definitely worth the drive for phenomenal Italian food. I'd make the drive from the OBX just for the Eggplant Parmesan.
