Palm Beach Area Seafood

I am staying at the resort at singer island at the end of the month and want to enjoy some good seafood. I will also have my 8 yr old with me so it needs to have a kid's menu.

He is great in restuarants he just doesn't eat much besides normal kid type food. My wife and I on the other hand would like something better then the chain restuarants!

XIV for birthday dinner

A group of 8 of us are going to XIV on Saturday night for my wife's birthday. There is no way we will all agree to come up with a tasting so most likely it will be a la carte.

What are the not to missed items?

I love ahi so the tartare is on the list.

Robert, your list sounds good. I never order catfish though is it really worth it.

I am heading up to SF for the weekend with my wife for our 12th anniv. I have reservations at both Slanted door (Friday night) and Michael Mina (Saturday Night). What do you think are the not to be missed dishes at both.

Thanks in advance

Restaurant Near Gibson Amphitheatre

I'm going to see Chris Rock in a couple of weeks and need a good restuarant close by. The Citywalk restuarants are not that good.

Brent's Westlake

The Westlake location has been open over a year now. While the food is the same the environment is very different. They spent alot of time and money to put together the westlake location and it is very nice. Northridge is 30 yrs old. Also, the Westlake location has a bar if that interests you at all. The food is great at either!

Osteria Mozza, hard decision to make

I agree, but this is date night with my wife (dinner then going to see wicked) so adding two more people is not an option. I'm thinking a mozzarella course, two pastas and one main dish. I think the two pastas will be the egg ravioli and the orecchiette. Not sure on the main course yet (braised beef sounds good but my wife likes fish)

Thanks for your help so far.

Review of Providence in LA magazine [Moved from LA Board]

I was reading through my new issue of LA magazine and came across an article on providence. One that started out great talking about how much the reviewer like the chef and his creativity and then went on to bash that creativity as going to far and needing to be reigned in. Did anyone lese read that article and what are your thoughts?

I want to take my wife out for a nice dinner but I feel like I've been to most of the best restaurants in LA. What has opened in the last year that also as great food? It can be in LA, Santa Monica, Pasadena or the San Fernando Valley.

Downtown LA with Kids

I am taking my 6 yr old to staples tomorrow night to watch basketball and want to take him to dinner first. Where would be a good place downtown near staples for dinner. He is a very typical six yr old.

Looking for higher end dining near USC

Get away from USC and head to downtown, its not that far away. In downtown you could try:

1. The Palms - across from staples great bar.
2. Nick and Stef's - Steakhouse
3. Ciudad - Spanish
4. Noe in the Omni hotel - great food
5. Roy's - Asian Fusion

Mastros in Thousand Oaks

I just went to dinner there Saturday with a group of 12. They did a good job of serving us as it is always hard with that many people. The actually dining rooms are small as they have made the bar the central location with three dining rooms attached to the center bar. It is a great addition in Thousand oaks. I enjoyed the restaurant as much as the one in beverly hills. To start they have a spicy mambo salad whihc is great or one person got the tuna tartare which was great. Alot of us got the porterhouse for two and split it with our wives. There is a 24oz and 48 oz vesion of this. I personally enjoyed the filet side better then the New York side but they were both good. As sides we had, lobster mashed potatos, wasabi mashed potatos, mac and cheese, shoe string fries, mushrooms and spinach. I have to say they have more creative sides then you will see in ruth chris, flemings or mortons.

The final comment is its not cheap as we avergaed about 110 per person and that was with bringing 4 bottles of our wine.

Upscale Mexican Cuisine

I am still a Border Grill fan in Santa Monica. The owners also own a place in downtown called Ciudad but thats is not mexican more spanish.

The owners were regulars on the cooking network for awhile that always seems to be on in my house when my wife is home. I think there show was callled two hot tamales!

Woodland Hills

For cheap eats in Woodland hills try dan's super subs. I doubt there is any good sushi place that you can get out under $25 but if you can drive up to chatsworth (10 minutes north) try omino sushi.

Challah in San Fernando Valley

The best challah in the valley is in Northridge at delicious bakery next to Vons at the corner of reseda and nordhoff. That is where Brent's get it's challah and most of their deserts.

Pre-Event Downtown Dinner

Try Noe at the Omni hotel. There is a bar right outside and you might be able to order dinner from there but I would call and check.
