6/26/11 Mixx Fro Yo Closed Temp'ly for Fire Next Door, Allston

On my way home last night I saw a sign posted on their front door that said they were going to reopen today. I might have to grab one after dinner tonight. Lucky me - I live right around the corner from Mixx!

Bon chon

Walking through Allston last night I saw a Bon Chon sign going up at the space that was occupied by the resturant Toki on Brighton Ave. I noticed that Toki looked like it was closed the other day.

Fish Store

You're thinking of Habanero, which is going into the space that was once Eats and Treats at 166 Brighton Ave.

Non-corn syrup cola with caffeine?

Boylan's makes several cane sugar sweetened sodas including a cola with caffeine. I have purchased it at the Golden Goose Market on Commercial Street in the North End/Waterfront section of town.

Kolache's

Maybe I should complete the trend and ask about finding good chicken fried steak in the area complete with the proper kind of gravy on top?!

Marty's Liquors in Allston is closing

Seriously, it is a neighborhood with a large student population. While Blanchard's will do just fine for liquor purchases, I'll miss Marty's deli with it's tasty sandwiches and selection of gourmet food. Is the other location T accessible? Is the Martignetti's on Soldiers Field Road related to the one that used to be in the North End?

Green's Gluten-Free Beer available anywhere?

Also try Blanchard's Liquors in Allston. I know someone who has Celiac disease and they have purchased gluten-free beer there.

CI chewy chocolate chip cookie recipe question

I'm planning to bake these for my boyfriend's birthday. He really likes his chocolate chip cookies chewy rather than crispy. Has anyone ever made the dough for these cookies and let it chill overnight before baking? Did it affect the texture? Can I just chill the dough in the bowl? Thanks in advance.

D'Parma in the N. End

No, it is not. Try Antico Forno on Salem St. I think that would work for you.

D'Parma in the N. End

sorry double post

paesans???

I have no idea how good it is, however I do live in the North End and I am sure that the curiosity will get to me eventually and I'll try it. The name does make me cringe.

Trattoria Toscana - not impressed

Perhaps I am reading this wrong, but are you saying there are no red sauces in Italian (vs. Italian-American) cuisine? (Yes, I realize that Italian cuisine is divided into distinct regional styles)

While I understand and agree with wanting servers that understand food, I think wanting servers that speak Italian in the USA is asking for a bit much. Good help is hard to find and keep in the industry as it is.

North End Restaurants For Pasta Dishes?

Spring 2008 openings and closings

Nope. I live in the North End and I am heartbroken. AFAIK, La Volle Nolle is still open. When I want sandwich, Italian or otherwise, I would be more likely to walk over to J. Pace & Son than go to Finale. But that's just me.

Spring 2008 openings and closings

Not only that - but the North End!? There are plenty of dessert options in the neighborhood. I guess not everyone is interested in cannoli, tiramisu, or gelato. But still, why would you get dessert in the North End at Finale? I was sad to see Martignetti's go. IMHO, having Finale open there doesn't really add to the neighborhood. Especially if Dairy Fresh is not going to reopen. Does anyone know anything about that?

Where to find molasse in Boston?

Crosby's is now being sold at the Golden Goose Market in the North End.

Boston's ultimate lime rickey?

Just remember to not go on a Sunday - I keep making that mistake. And I should know better, being a "Southern Expat"!

"Food Entertainment Network" - Enough Already

Two points!

red velvet cupcake recipe

How many cupcakes does this recipe make? Is that cook time for cupcakes or for a layer cake?

Incensed with Whole Foods: Enough Incompetence!

I just reread the thread and my original reply doesn't make sense. I thought that the marscpone was spoiled and past its expiration date when the OP puchased it. Clearly I should not be posting before getting my morning java fix. The shrimp thing I agree with everyone else - it is not something you should be able to return.

I now understand the fuss about Fage...

I found Liberte when I went to buy more Fage last night at the Golden Goose Market in the North End of Boston. I literally squealed with delight upon finding a container of 2% Fage with honey! Especially since it was the last one. I purchased some of both and will be comparing the two brands this weekend. I think they are going to start referring to me as Yogurt Girl at that store.

Incensed with Whole Foods: Enough Incompetence!

I would still have complained to the store. Clearly they need to be more proactive about removing perishables that are past their expiration date from the shelves. Which location was this? Have you had poor experiences at other WF? This just illustrates one of the main reasons why I prefer TJ's over WF - the TJ no hassle return policy.

Boiled lobster served with ketchup/catsup??

Actually, I've heard that ketchup on Kraft macaroni and cheese is common in Canada.

I now understand the fuss about Fage...

I just ate my first ever container of Fage yogurt.

OH. MY. GOD.

That stuff is freaking amazing!

I will be going to the grocery store right after work. Must buy more. Kallis33 has gone Fage and she's not going back!

Wine stored standing upright

A friend wasn't aware you should store wine laying on its side. (She comes from a family that doesn't drink due to their religion and lived in a dry county up until 2 years ago) She has a couple of bottles that have been stored standing upright, some longer than others. Are the bottles drinkable?

Is There a Reason People Still Use Margarine in Baking?

Vegetarians/vegans use it as a substitute for butter since you can buy margarine that contains no animal products.

Four Seasons High Tea

I echo Blumie's sentiments. It is the Four Seasons; I would expect that they would be responsive to any feedback, positive or negative, from their customers. That being said I would also expect to recieve very good service there. I am sorry you both didn't enjoy your last visits.

Boston BrewPub/Restaurant Request?

Mom's definitely looking for the New England experience. Last time she was here we ended up at Union Oyster House. I wasn't blown away, but she enjoyed it.

Boston BrewPub/Restaurant Request?

I am always looking for good, inexpensive seafood in Boston - especially for when my mother comes to visit from Montana. Where is this place?

Groceries in Bozeman

I'm not a local, but my mom and brother live out there. My suggestion would be to stop by the Bozeman Community Food Co-op - http://www.bozo.coop/ .
