Quiet Dinner on the Westside
La Bruschetta on Westwood. Quiet, very reasonable and excellent food and service.
Wine and cheese paring activity in Santa Monica?
Not in Santa Monica, but the Cheese Store of Bevery Hills has monthly cheese and wine tastings.
The Nook
I am overly sensitive to attitude and rude behavior, and I can't tell you how many restaurants we have crossed off our list because of this (e.g., Fraiche, Buchon, etc.). However, we have never received anything but a very warm welcome from the owner. He usually stops by to chat and see if everything is OK, and we certainly are not regulars. I don't doubt what you say that you experienced, and I would be hesitant to go to a restaurant that receives this kind of feedback. However, our experience has been very different. Maybe something else was going on at the time.
The Nook
Realized that we hadn't been to The Nook in a could of years so we went there tonight. Excellent food, big portions, outstanding service and reasonable cost. And they told us that they soon they will be getting a full liquor license. This is just the type of restaurant that we should keep in business. Don't think that we have ever had a bad meal there but we, like many others, get caught up in chasing the new kid on the block. We all screwed up by not patronizing Angeli on a regular basis. Let's not let another gem slip away.
Fraiche in Culver City closing?
Good! Really nasty and arrogant hostess and manager.
no salt added cottage cheese?
I have been looking for something like this. How does it taste? Many people don't realize that most cottage cheese has more salt than potato chips!
HELP! First date restaurant tonight in or near West Hollywood
I had a horrible meal there. Emailed the manager, no response. Called and found the voicemail box full. After several days got through to a human being who said that they were a manager. He told me that he would investigate and get back to me. He never got back to me. Called back and the voicemail box was filled up again. Email again and never got a response. Go somewhere else.
Passover
So which restaurants are having Passover dinners this year? Have any posted menus?
Vito Italian Restaurant in Santa Monica
Love Vito! Old style, red leather Italian. Great caesar salad. Took friends there last week and they loved it.

La Bruschetta
Lately, after many years, we have started going to La Bruschetta again. Really a delightful experience. Great food, good specials, reasonable wines by the glass, excellent service, classy environment, willing to modify dishes according to taste or dietary preference, etc.. What more could you wan? Not especially flashy or the newest scene, just consistently good dining. With the demise of solid places like Angeli, I think that we all need to reconsider supporting the restaurants that have been around for a while and are dependable. We are trying to make a big effort to spread out our choices to a mix of new and trendy and solid and consistent.

Spiced Braised Duck with Rigatoni --- anywhere?
La Bruschetta will make a pasta in duck ragu. Not always on the menu but they will make it for you if you call ahead.
Grocery Delivery?
Today I tried to use Von's for delivery and this is the 3rd time they are late. This time 4 hours late and counting. To clarify things they are 2 hours late outside of their 2 hour window. It all depends on what store they deliver out of, and the one that they use for West LA is a loser. Never again. Any suggestions on other supermarkets that deliver?
Dark and romantic - westside or Hollywood area
Do they still let them smoke on the patio at Little Door. That ruined it for us a while back.
Need fun, inexpensive ethnic restaurant on Westside/South Bay for party of 8

Freeze dried blueberries near Norwalk/Downey/Cerritos

Visit to San Francisco
I am from Los Angeles and a frequent poster on our Chowhound. I know that this type of question is posted frequently, I have looked at many of the previous posts, but each request is a little different, so please no "check prior posts you idiot" replies.
My wife and I are going to rendezvous with another couple in San Francisco, October 6-10. They are from New Orleans and we are come Los Angeles, so we all know a little bit about good food. We eat everything, but Italian is about as "ethnic" as they would like to to (i.e.., no Chinese, Japanese, Middle Eastern, etc.). Any suggestions on good places to go would be greatly appreciated.

AOC Open table spotlight drama and rude service
We recently had a very bad experience at their sister restaurant Lucques. Tried to e-mail but their mailbox was full. After trying for several days I finally called and discussed the issue with "The Manager". He said that he would investigate and get back to me. I also let him know about the full mailbox situation. I waited a week or so and nothing happened. Tried to e-mail again but the mailbox was still full. Called again and got somebody who said that they were sorry and would comp us a dinner. Pretty pathetic followup and we won't be back. This is what kills restaurants. It is not always that the public gets tired of the same menu and wants to try the newest place. Sometimes established restaurants become apathetic and unprofessional with regards to professionalism and service. Maybe the owners need to pay more attention on a regular basis.

Picca
Went for the first time tonight. The place was jammed. Food was wonderful. Service was great (ask for Olive). We had one cocktail (Pisco sour), three glasses wine, ate like pigs, two coffees and split and desert - $116. One of the most interesting and best meals we have had in a long time. Pretty amazing all around considering that they haven't been open for a week.

Where Can a Girl Get a Decent Po'Boy in This Town?!
I lived in New Orleans for 7 years. The problem is that the bread here is all wrong. Ever time I try one I am very disappointed. What we need is a Leidenheimer's Bakery around here.
Where to buy dextrose sugar in LA?
You might have more luck if you look for D-glucose or "grape sugar"; they are the same thing as dextrose.
Ginseng Root?
Any Korean herbal market, such as Har Bin Deer Antler Trading Company on Western, will sell you all types of whole ginseng. Also can find it in pharmacies in China Town.

Saint Amour Restaurant in Culver City
Just had a wonderful dinner tonight at Saint Amour restaurant in Culver City. I had their price fixe dinner, which tonight was a salad with hazelnuts and goat cheese, sauteed skate wings in lemon and caper sauce, and a chocolate pot au creme desert ($27). My wife had mushroom soup and their salmon. Charming hostess, great food, excellent service, good wines by the glass and reasonable prices. We have never had a bad meal there. This is just the type of local/neighborhood restaurants that we should be supporting instead of searching out the newest, hippest, trendiest and expensive places. Don't make them raise their prices and go pretentious on us to attract new patrons. During these continuing tough times we need to support our local restaurants that provide good food at reasonable prices. My two cents!
