Best East Bay Bakery

What's your favorite East Bay Bakery?

Recs needed for on-site food catering in the East Bay

Thanks. I'll check her out.

Recs needed for on-site food catering in the East Bay

We're throwing a party for 75-100 and want someone hip and tasty to grill/cook/cater in our back yard. We talking with Pizza Politano, Bi-Rite, Shaw's BBQ, Picante, and BBQ Smokehouse Catering. Am I missing anything? Any additional recommendations would be great. Thanks!

Thoughts on my Napa itinerary

Great choices with Kennan and Vincent Arroya. If you want to try something off the grid (and off the hook), go to the industrial park where Donelan and Natural Process Alliance are made and do tastings (call ahead for sure). Tyler at Donelan can steer you from there. And all the winemakers I know love the Rosso Pizzaria.

Itinerary for our honeymoon in SF/Napa. Thoughts?

I agree that the Ferry Building Saturday AM is by far the best way to do the Farmer's market. THe weekdays don't really compare. As an Oakland resident, I love scream but wouldn't travel to OAK to eat it, especially if Bi-Rite Creamery can do the trick. Also, I think Oxbow Market in Napa IS worth a visit, especially if you're looking for take out eats.

As for restaurants, French Laundry if you can get in is a must but Gott's Roadside you can eat at the Ferry Building. I love F+W (if they're having a dough room dinner while you're there its not to be missed but as mentioned, not open for lunch). And, I recently ate at Sons & Daughters and thought it was overpriced and a bit fussy. Someone mentioned Cotogna which is owned by the Quince folks and is supposed to be fab (we haven't been able to get in yet; same with Frances, BTW).

As for wineries, I have to agree that there are some interesting small, artisanal wineries that might be more fun that the big tasting rooms. Many of the smaller wineries listed in the string, like Elyse and Keenen, are solid choices and Chase Vineyards (they are known for their Zins) in St.Helena is a favorite (Tell Jeff that Jen from VineCrowd says hi if you go :) Also, the owners of Clif Bar/Clif Family Winery & Farm run a fab a new tasting room at the southern end of Main Street in St. Helena, Velo Vino that rocks. And, for the architecture alone, Clos Pegase is worth a visit, especially if you don't get to Napa too often.

Buidling a 500-mile kitchen - need resources for potracks, etc...

And need resources for products and materials manufactured within 500 miles of the Bay Area. That includes all of CA an Nevada and much of Oregon. In particular looking for pot racks. Thanks.

Last minute Saturday night dinner in SF for 4?

Thank skid. I posted after 45 minutes trolling opentable. Perbacco (can't do 9:00) is an option and I'm not keen on hotel restaurants no matter how stunning. But you like Perbacco? Not too corporate? Couldn't find another 7:00 res for my life. Another option I found is Zare at Fly Trap (6:00). Any thoughts?

Last minute Saturday night dinner in SF for 4?

My cousin just called to say he's in town Saturday night. No reservations to be had. Just moved from Dc so don't know the lay of the land yet. Recommendations for a great, stylish meal with no reservation during prime time in SF?

Creative Sushi in DC?

Makoto which in its simplistic, fresh elegant meal is beautiful and creative. Perrys is nice also, havent been in a long time but remember it being good and different.

Tia Queta in Bethesda? Anyone been?

I have to disagree, the food is greasy and highly americanised and has the atmosphere and energy to suit. had a horrible experience there several months ago, invloving a rude waiter, slow poor quality food, and bad drinks and music. However, I will admit to being biased as I personaly hate all things Bethesda. Leave the burbs and go to the city where Epicurean delights you will certainly find.

Best Tacos In DC?

Hi all,

I'm looking for the best Taqueria in DC proper. Any style would be great, but the classic mexican street vendor style would be fantastic. Also, as strange as this sounds, are there any asian/mexican restraunts like fresca tortilla or happy taco in NYC. I used to go to these places all the time when I lived in NYC and am seriously missing them.

Thx

New Fortune Dim Sum

Where do you recommend for Dim Sum in Silver Spring/Wheaton? I'd love to know!

What's up at Hank's

Went to Hank's Oyster Bar for the first time tonight. The food was excellent, but the wait and the attitude of the front door guy was awful. Is it always like this? Not sure its really worth it...

Looking for Good Restaurant for a 12-person dinner

It is???? I work right around the corner and haven't noticed.

Best Openings in the last 2 years?

Buck's on the high end, Two Amy's on the pizza end. And an extra vote for Komi.

Weekend in DC...need a Chow Itinerary

To each his own. I pick Buck's over Dino. Dino's ok, but nothing special in my book. And I'm new to the board so don't know how you feel about minibar. I assume you're not a fan. Haven't been to Palena in 6 years.

Looking for Good Restaurant for a 12-person dinner

Red Sage has nice private rooms too.

Weekend in DC...need a Chow Itinerary

"Best Food in the City":
Komi
Mini Bar
Buck's Fishing & Camping
Obelisk
Firefly
Blue Duck Tavern (haven't been but people seem to love it.)
Lunch @ Two Amy's (primo pizza) is always fun

Buck's & Firefly are probably the most casual, but BDT is in a hotel so I'm sure you could sit in the lounge (no res necessary) informally.

Dessert date in Bethesda / Friendship Hts.

Giffords and quartermaine would hardly qualify as a date in my house (4 kids at home). There's nothing much in Friendship Heights. The bar at Buck's is our favorite drink spot near to home, but it may be a bit far (a bit farther than FH) and they usually only have one or two desserts. Jaleo could be a good choice closer to home.

Dinner choice: Central, Komi or Blue Duck Tavern?

Only been to Komi, but it is exceptional. Have you thought about Jose Andres' minibar?

Cool, foodie spots near CMU in Pittsburgh

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. My kid is still chuckling about Pgh is by definition uncool...

Cool, foodie spots near CMU in Pittsburgh

My foodie son and I will be touring CMU and want to know where the cool, unique spots are. We're hoping to find a Kelley & Ping (NYC) or Two Amy's (DC) type spot. Something special and foodie. We'll have a car. Any suggestions?

LAChowhounder in the city for 2 days!

Point well taken.

LAChowhounder in the city for 2 days!

City Bakery is a must for breakfasts, etc...

Ice Cream Sundaes

Serendipity 3 is the classic (albeit upscale) NYC ice cream shop (also has a restaurant and gift shop). A group may be tough though, but you can always call.

Teaism

I love the coconut chicken curry. Don't know if its available at lunch, but the french toast is out of this world.
