The decline of the Italian Hoagie

Thanks for the heads up DCM.

Headed down to 8th and Dickinson and had one of the best Hoagies ever. Cosmi's is legit.

Kinnaree in Horsham, PA

So happy you liked Tony's cooking.
He is a gem.

Kinnaree in Horsham, PA

The ginger lemon butter sauce over fish is awesome. Love the pasta and mushroom app as well as the oysters in cream sauce. Curries are very tasty, not overly spicy.

Steve's Prince of Steaks -- still pretty durn good

Tried the original Steve's today for the first time. Loved it. For me the secret is the way the American cheese is melted. Makes all the difference. Of all the places mentioned here Chink's is the only one I haven't tried. Have to make the trip there next. Thanks for the call.

Kinnaree in Horsham, PA

+2 on Kinnaree. Have been followwing Tony since the 80s in all locations.

The food here is very reasonable and worth the trip. His apps are truly amazing.

Lunch in Wayne area

Silk Cuisine in Bryn Mawr offers a quiet comfortable setting to sit and talk. Good Thai food and friendly service.

Have you been to White Dog and Mixx?

Do I dare order a roasted turkey?

Ted Pace now has a catering operation. Formerly Pace One.

Best Meals this summer

Fellow Hounds! What have been your best meals this summer?

Mine: Black Sheep Bistro delivered my best meal, a perfect Tilapia, North Hero House offered the best fish and chips I have ever had. On the NY side, Cafe Mooney Bay served the best soft shell crabs you could ask for.

What have been your faves in Summer 2011?

Went to Villanni tonight and enjoyed their smal plates. Loved the octopus.

AmblerGirl,

Love reading your posts.

Sorry, I do not know the answer. All I can say is that we had 4 meals and we went 4 for 4.

Good food and good prices.

Uncle Greg's Smokin BBQ in Lansdale on a Friday Night

Posted on Sunday. Had leftover pulled pork and beans. Was out every night this week. Just had the pork and beans four nights later.

Thanks Uncle Greg.

Uncle Greg's Smokin BBQ in Lansdale on a Friday Night

Finally got to Uncle Greg's today. About a 35 minute drive for me. As everyone else has mentioned Greg is super friendly and offered me samples of the pulled pork and brisket. Excellent! Ordered the sampler so I could get ribs as well. Sides of beans and potato salad. There is so much food for $16, I could not finish it all, will have the rest for lunch or a late snack. I agree with what just about everyone has said about all the food, really good home made potato salad, tasty beans, absolutely melt in your mouth brisket, the best I have ever had.

The ribs were toothsome, perfectly done, I went with the sweeter sauce as opposed to the Carolina vinegar style. Sauce was sweet, smoky, a hint of heat I thought. Pulled pork was moist with all kinds of flavor.

This was far better then Sweet Lucy's smokehouse IMO, which is hard to get to.

His printed menu says he is now open on Wednesdays as well. Haven't tried the other BBQ in Lansdale but Uncle Greg's is worth the drive if you live anywhere within a thirty minute radius.
Oh and the food was still warm when I got home. Greg recommended I nuke it on defrost for @ 3minutes which was perfect.

Pasquale's in Peru, NY Family Italian Style Restaurant

If you are traveling along Interstate 87 in Northern NY heading to Montreal or Plattsburgh or the ferry to Vermont and want a great family style Italian dinner head to Peru, NY for the best home style Italian restaurant. On Rt 22 @ 3/4 mile off I 87 it is the finest, great value family style Italian in the North Country.

All the basics, pasta, veal and chicken etc., with good red gravy. Also known for their pizza, but I have only had the pasta and chicken dishes. Very friendly service.

Great Italian near Valley Forge?

VFP is a very good restaurant. Never had a bad meal there

The elusive fried oyster

Agreed. Always have enjoyed their fried oysters

Hand Sliced Smoked Salmon

Can I fifth Aaron? A former psychologist who once taught at Wilkes College, he runs a great counter at Genuardi's. I believe he takes off Wednesday's and leaves everyday @ 4:00 pm.

Great Weekend Dining in New Brunswick

Was in town for a meeting and had great meals at Stage Left and Due Mari. Service, food, atmosphere were all perfect. The owners at Stage Left were in evidence and made for a great evening.

The Rutgers bartender at Due made that evening. Food was perfect.

Glad I made the trip from Philly.

Demi-glaces --- is anyone familiar with these brands?

Sorry, since I find Mawrter a sound voice.

But I have had great success with More than Gourmet using it in many different ways.

My family loves it in our holiday sauce for Prime Rib and I use it for my roast chicken gravy.

Philly cheesesteak--how consistent, and what times?

Barryg is right. You need to go to John's Roast Pork for your cheese steak

Dinner in or near King of Prussia

Italian, family style, pizza, Valley Forge Pizza just outside the park is very good and price friendly. BYOB I believe.

The best Thai food is 10 to 20 mimutes away on Laancaster Pike Rt 30.

Check out Wayne restaurants on Google to see the wide range of food there, alsy 10 to 20 mminutes away.

Saturday Breakfast Wayne & West Chester?

Nudy's in Wayne or Classic Diner in Frazier.

Vermont

I forgot Mary's Restaurant at Baldwin Creek. Excellent up scale dining. Had several great experiences there.

Vermont

Black Sheep Bistro for sure. Also a sister restaurant in Shelbourne, The Bearded Frog. For chinese A Single Pebble in Burlington. There is also Basin Harbor.

Brandywine Prime

Folks,

Finally made it out to BP with friends on a saturday night. Perfect evening. Do not know where to start. Maybe with the waiter, Michael Masterson who said he was descended from Bat. A terrific waiter. Made the night. Now to the food.

Mushroom soup was awesome, he said. Grilled romaine was perfect, she said and I tasted and agreed. Spinach salad was good and I tasted and agreed. App of soft shell crabs with a watermelon/pineapple mango was out of this world. I have had all kinds of soft shells and this was at the top.

We.had strip steaks and Filet for dinner. Three were slightly overcooked, but good flavor. Potatoes were good.

Nice vibe. Highly recommended, especially if you are lucky enough to get Michael.

Oh, almost forgot the comp dessert wine.

We will be back

West Chester Cheesesteak???

On the basis of this thread, I tried the Pepper Mill and had a great cheesesteak.

Thanks for the tip.

A La Maison - BYOB - Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore

Went to lunch with three co-workers this week. We all ordered the short ribs and cheese sandwich, two with frites, two with house greens. Bill was less than $60, a very good value.. One thought her lunch was heaven, I thought it was good/very good, but not awesome.

Frites were very good, salad had hardly any dressing, but salt and pepper were provided.

Service was better than described here. Perfectly acceptable.

Would recommend based on my experience.
Room is beautiful

Cheesesteaks or Italian deli near Haverford/Conshohocken

Agree Dakota Pizza has good steaks. Roache& O'Brien has awesome burgers and is a Haverford Bryn Mawr hangout. Ask your wife if she knows it. A mile from the Haverford campus. Garrett Hill Pizza in Rosemont is another possibility for steaks and Hoagies.
