One lunch in Camden

I believe it is the same for both lunch and dinner, although have only eaten lunch there. I don't recall seeing a separate menu on the door for dinner.

One lunch in Camden

I second Long Grain, and recommend making a reservation (yes, even for lunch).

I dream of the homemade wide noodle dishes and beef salad.

4 dinners in Bar Habor

I haven't ever had a bad meal at Mache Bistro, nor has anybody I've recommended it to.

I would also strongly recommend Town Hill Bistro.

Bulk Spices in Portland, ME

You may also want to check out Penzey's Spices, online and based in Milwaukee. You can purchase bags of spices in addition to jars, and the quality has never disappointed.

If there is any version of the lobster bread pudding on the menu as an appetizer you should order it!

Best Chinese Food in Portland, ME???

I actually have several people who live in NYC who insist on takeout from Fortune Garden on outer Forest Ave. when they are in town. It's takeout only, at:

Crab Louie in Portland! (fish tacos!)

I'm eating one right now and I say the flour tortilla is definitely either grilled or lightly pan browned.

what to eat at 555 in Portland?

I would have insisted on the lobster truffle mac & cheese, but it doesn't appear to be on the menu this summer:

Acropolis is fantastic! I've gone about five times in two months and have had a different dish each time and have loved everything.

Good eats in Kennebunkport area?

I *just* heard about a place called Bandaloop Restaurant in Kennebunkport (http://www.bandaloop.biz/), that it must be checked out. Maybe if you are feeling adventurous you would want to eat there.

Good restaurants in Portland

If you are looking for great Chinese food and haven't yet tried Fortune Garden on Forest Ave I would highly recommend giving it a try. Yes, it's in an odd location in a mainly residential area, and yes, it seems scary at first (and second) glance. But you must try it! My brother lives in Manhattan and every time he comes to visit we have get takeout. I have other friends, former Manhattanites, who scoffed at the suggestion that my brother must eat at Fortune Garden each he visits. Then they ate the food from Fortune Garden and couldn't stop talking about how it was the best Chinese they'd had since "moving off the island".

It has a couple of small tables, so I'd mainly recommend it for takeout. Also, it is closed on Sundays. Some favorites include sesame chicken, ginger chicken with string beans, hot and sour soup. Honestly, I've never had anything from there that I didn't like.

Gumbo file in upper valley

I would recommend ordering gumbo file from Penzey's spices. In fact, I'd recommend ordering ALL of your spices from Penzey's--they're amazing.

Here's a link to the gumbo file page: http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzey...

June in Bar Harbor

We spent a weekend in Bar Harbor this past September and ate at a few places. For a very nice dinner (and spectacular wine list) I would recommend Havana (http://www.havanamaine.com/). The gentleman who helped us with our wine selection recommended Mache Bistro to us, as well (http://www.machebistro.com/).

We had a lovely breakfast at Cafe This Way (http://www.cafethisway.com/home.html), which was also recommended to us as a good place for dinner. Another fun breakfast location is 2 Cats (http://www.2catsbarharbor.com/cafe.html).

Really, my only disappointment came at the Lompoc Cafe and Brew Pub (http://www.lompoccafe.com/), where I've been several times before and received both great food and great service. For some reason, despite it being a Saturday afternoon on a lovely September day, there was only one waitress. Judging from the length of time it took to get a sandwich, I would say there was only one cook, as well. Hopefully this was just an anomaly, as Lompoc has great outdoor seating and is a very fun, casual place to hang out and eat.

Domus Isle at 134 Main St. has a small but well-priced wine selection. There is a larger wine shop up the street from this that has a much larger selection (but I can't remember the name--you can't miss it on Main St.

)

If you need morning coffee, you should stop by the Alternative Market at 16 Mt. Desert St.

I hope this helps!

Special Dessert Place- Southern Maine?

A nice place to go would be Five Fifty-Five in Portland, ME (http://www.fivefifty-five.com/). It's a very nice restaurant that has recently opened up the Point Five lounge directly adjacent to the restaurant, which would be an ideal place to go for dessert/cheese plate and drinks.
