Large Gathering in or around Bayview / Davisville
Simple Bistro has a private room and does a decent brunch. Palucci also has a private room, but I'm not sure if they do brunch. Global Bazaar is fairly large and equipped for parties, but I'm not sure how you define higher end. All of those are on Mount Pleasant. There is not much to recommend on Bayview. L'Avenue is quite good, but also quite small.

You may want to consider Ursa. A friend of mine was there recently and said it was one of the better dining experiences he has had this year.

If you're looking specifically for Grower Champagnes, Groupe Soleil is your best bet. Steven Cohen is your contact there. They carry a number of small, terroir driven champagne producers that also happen to be terrific value. Producers are listed below:

You are right about Segar. It is now l'Avenue bistro (on Bayview, lol). I don't know whether Segar just rebranded or finally sold the restaurant (it had been on the market for some time).

It's funny, I think I had the music on my mind when I went in because of your post. When I went to pick up my burger, I had the same thought about the Bose system - impressive little machine.
Now I may end up getting one for home.

I just got back from lunch; count me as a convert! The burger patty was so juicy it was running down my chin. The texture of the burger was soft and crumbly, which I prefer to biting into a meat puck. Fries were ok, but who cares! It was 2:30 and there was a line up and steady stream of people coming and going while I was there. Music was on the loud side, but I'm eating a burger at a burger joint not foie gras at Scaramouche. I was more surprised that a Bose sound dock could generate that much volume. Finally, the counter staff were friendly and kept the counters wiped and tidy.

The County General - simple food, prepared beautifully
Yikes! I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm back at Bar Centrale. I'd like to give it another shot, as the first experience was very positive.
I'm glad you enjoyed County General. I think I was a little down on the experience because the service was a little clueless (with regard to the wine), but I'll likely go back when I'm in that area next. Maybe I should have ordered a red instead ;-)

I had a cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres at Hart House Gallery Grill for my 40th birthday a couple of years ago. The food was great and the price point wasn't particularly onerous.

Seems like this menu item may have been intended for their summer menu when the restaurant was originally supposed to open, as it doesn't make a lot of sense on the menu right now.
@Aser In the past, Rodneys has had live spot prawns in one of the tanks.
