Moving to Tyler, where do we eat?

Go to Bernard's-not Currents, Go to Los Guerros-Not El Lugar. Los Guerros has more sauce selections and less grease....best Taqueria in Tyler on Palace Street.

Villa Montez is where Mansion on Hill used to be...we have been 1x/wk for last 2 months and other than a couple of slips with service it is really good....not Tex-Mex but fresh latin menu.

The old El Charro's on Erwin is only place we eat Tex-Mex...stay away from Mercado's....too cheesy (both food and atmosphere).

Also on Palace just down from Los Guerros is Bruno's...great pizza/sandwiches/salads.

The fish tacos at Stanley's are greatness. The downtown Don Juan's sells margaritas so we go there instead of Erwin. Happy hunting.....

San Francisco Dinner Sunday

I am in San Fran this weekend for a conference and am taking a couple of MD's and wives to dinner Sun nite....conference is downtown, but I am looking for the best off the beaten path, non-tourist, casual, best food at a reasonable price (50/head or less) in the vicinity or a fairly close cab ride away.....

Seafood or bistro or just the best local joint around is what I am looking for....all suggestions are much appreciated....Mike

Absolute best burger in Texas?

Juicy's in E TX is good.....but, the "Blue Store" as the locals call it is a Chrevron station between Tyler and Lake Palestine is the best....old school griddle with toasted (greasy) bun, fresh toppings.....

Quick Trip for College

Get out of FQ and take the street car to Audobon park across from Tulane and walk the park and go to Clancy's for dinner. My fave neighborhood non-tourist restaurant. If you are around that area during lunch go to Frankie & Johnnie's....great NO local food....

Aurora or Lola?

Probably my 2 favorite places to celebrate in Dallas.....I would probably have to go with the tasting menu at Lola because of the value and complexity of meal along with great service....anyone who can feed you 12-15 courses and you not explode and you leave feeling you would just like 1 more little bite of that short rib......classic

Coal Vines? [Dallas] Pizza

Coal Vines is my fave when considering atmosphere and service, After living in NY I think it's close as I've had to the REAL thing. Have asked why they don't sell slices since they market themselves as a neighborhood joint. They said they did at first....They are opening new stores in Frisco and SLake soon. Had the pasts special (porcini rav w truffle cream) and it was excellent. This place is hard to beat. MH

Cafe Toulouse impressions [DFW]

The Chili's comment was tongue in cheek, but I have always thought the quality of food at Taverna (Dallas/Austin both) is better executed and higher quality than Toulouse. I always seek out bistro/brasserie spots in all cities I visit and have always been disapointed that Dallas has only Toulouse. I read recently about a new bistro far north Dallas but have not made the trip.

I guess my expectations are not as high in Dallas for bistro fare, so I always take it for what it is....decent simple French....MH

Cafe Toulouse impressions [DFW]

To me a bistro is a bistro....not fine dining, simple food and good atmosphere. Good salads. sandwiches and fries. I like the short ribs w eggs for Sun brunch...good espresso...just relax and don't expect French Room quailty when you are paying Chili's prices....MH

Lola or Local in Dallas?

I would have to throw Bijoux into this conversation when considering Lola....Either way do the 12 course tasting menu...will be a top 5 meal for you.....

Arizona Love Needed!!

I appreciate all your help with this. Without knowing the vicinity of the restaurants in conjunction with the resort it would have made all eating decisions much more tedious....I was not asking for resort reviews, just assistance with location....So, we will either stay in the Ritz, or Sq Point, so any other unique off the tourist path finds is still much appreciated. Good weekend to all....

Arizona Love Needed!!

We are traveling to AZ over Spring Break with another family. We are narrowing down places to stay and usually make decisions based on food. We are trying to decide between The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa, Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, Carefree Resort Villas Condos & Spa or a private condo overlooking Troon.

Having not been to AZ in many years, I know nothing about Pheonix food other than reading this board. Can anyone recommend where we should stay and best restaurants (French Bistro, Italian, aged beef, Swestern) that are near these resorts?? Both familes have kids that are also foodies and are old enough for no worries. Any assistance is appreciated.

Good Eats in Dallas-Austin Corridor

I would stay on 35 and drive as fast as you can and then eat in Dallas....other than the snack in West, you are not going to find great food after eating in Austin until you get to Dallas....unless you want a greasy burger at Georgo's in Waco...Drive safe, Mike

Primo's best Tex-Mex in that area bar none....If you are using the corp expense account, do Aurora, if on your own dime go LOLA or Urban Bistro who is same chef as Aurora for 1/4 the price....enjoy, Mike

Anyone eaten at Reata in Ft. Worth, Texas?

I think Reata is over rated overall. I would sugeest Lanny's for similar $$ or Taverna for good/nice/inexpensive Italian....Good luck, Mike
