date #2, UES near 2nd Ave/88th

Enough with Cipolla Rossa and Kurio! They are both so amazingly mediocre.

A lot of the other recs are spot on however; my favorites are Sfoglia, Peri Ela, Canyon Road, and Rughetta. All are comfortable atmosphere-wise, so you'll be able to have a nice conversation -- and the food is delicious.

Fun place for friends 21st bday?

I had a birthday party at Gyu-Kaku, which was able to accomodate a large group of about 20 people. It's grill-your-own bbq so it's definitely festive. I'd also recommend La Palapa on St Marks, which is good for groups, loud, young, and very yummy.

Best Soup in New York

Cafe Doppio @ 55 Broad St. is a mom-and-pop place with fantastic homemade soups. It's sandwiched between a Starbucks and a Hale & Hearty, so not only is it great to support the little guy, but your stomach will love it too. The Italian Wedding and the Tomato-Zucchini are my faves.

Chelsea Date

Tia Pol on 10th Ave, between 22 & 23. It's small, so you'll probably need a reservation. I was just there last week and loved every small plate we ordered, particularly the pork sandwich and lamb skewers . Killer!

Restaurant with a lounge or club scene for my 30th b-day

Stanton Social

Kefi recommendations

Agreed that the service is not the best. The hostess booked our reservation for the wrong day and then blamed us. Our waitress however, was terrific. The meatball meze and the sheep's milk dumplings are both amazing.

New to Midtown East

You'll find delicious, inexpensive Turkish at Sip Sak on 2nd Ave between 49th and 50th. Enjoy your visit!

Cheesteak near 30th St Station?

I am coming to Philadelphia next week and am hoping to find a good, juicy cheesteak near 30th Street Station. I know Pat's and Geno's are a short cab ride away, but we're looking for something more off the beaten path. If there isn't anything near the station, I'll just search the boards for other local faves. Thanks!

Square Meal on E 92nd

Agreed that it's very good. If they have the meatloaf with carmelized onions, it's killer! You mentioned lunch, but if you do go for dinner, try to sit before 9:00. Last time I went, we sat at 9:00 and the place was completely empty by 9:45, which is early by NYC standards, even on the Upper East Side!

Close to Penn Station, is there a nice place to meet for drinks

i second Seven. a little more formal and definitely a more 30 - 40 something crowd.

Mom's 60th bday, table for 2, Monday night, great atmosphere, no reservations is ok.

Pastis?

Asian business clients coming to dinner - need reco's above 14th st pls!

I'm not sure how you define "not super expensive", but here goes:
Etats-Unis on East 81st
Fig & Olive on 62nd & Lex
Insieme on West 51st

E. 85th betw. Park/Lex.

Cafe Notte is another wine bar in the neighborhood on 2nd and 85th. They serve food and the bartenders are very friendly and chatty. We almost always end up talking to others are the bar when we go.

Advice for US Open Tennis Trip Itinerary

You can watch the simulcast from the big screen on the north end of Madison Square Park. Last year, Country set up a stand and sold the most delicious snacks, so between that and Shake Shack, you'll be destined to eat well!

Where can I find the best burger on the Upper East Side. I would love it if they would deliver to 86th and 2nd

Kinsale Tavern on 3rd Ave between 93rd & 94th

Cooking Classes for Couples

My boyfriend and I take classes at the Institute for Culinary Education in Chelsea all the time. They offer group classes that are often filled with couples. Very informative and so much fun!

Union Square stumper

Pangea on 2nd Ave and 11th. Don't know about their beer selection, but they serve food at the bar and have a decent seletion of appetizers. It's pretty casual so you can walk right in without reservations.

Ciaobella 85th & 2nd

Thank you UES Mayor! Sounds like they still have a few kinks to work out, but I really enjoy both Baraonda and Per Lei so I'm excited to see what they have to offer. May have to check out the whole wheat pasta!

Ciaobella 85th & 2nd

Thanks - I tried that too and they all reference the Ciao Bella ice cream brand.

Ciaobella 85th & 2nd

Hmm...I searched, but couldn't find anything. Will keep looking

dining alone near Columbia U -- suggestions?

If you're a jazz fan, you can sit at the bar at Smoke on Broadway @ 106th. The food is surprisingly good there and being alone, you'll have a great show as entertainment. Just call ahead to find out when the sets start becuase it's small and can fill up quickly.

I agree with the Max Soha recommendation, as the food is really tasty and inexpensive. They do have a bar, although I'm not sure if they serve food there.

Ciaobella 85th & 2nd

Has anyone been to Ciaobella yet? It just opened on 85th and 2nd where Panorama Cafe used to be. I am going there tomorrow night and would love recommendations on menu options. Thanks so much!

Panorama Cafe -- What Happened??

It looks like they're opening just 2 doors over on 85th street. I believe a coffee shop, which relocated to 86th St. used to be there. It's a smaller space, but looks promising!

Drinks/Small Bites Tonight b/w Flatiron & Midtown

Pipa on 19th and Broadway. It gets busy, but is pretty large so you should be able to get a seat.

Restaurant with a pond, fountain, pool, aquarium?

Aja has fish pond, partially covered with glass so you can walk over it

Kurio, UES?

Did I miss something ,or is Kurio now a construction site? Went to check it out tonight due to all the great reviews and it seems to have disappeared. Anyone know if it's coming back, gone forever, etc? Would love to know. Thanks!

Best lesser-known beer bars in NYC

Swift's Hybernian Lounge!

Best Upper Eastside Takeout????

Chicken: Pio Pio (mmmmm what is in that delicious green sauce??!)
Pizza: Nick's
Chinese: Chef Ho's (great lunch specials)
Sandwiches: Michelle's Beligian Kitchen, Milano
Pita Grill is also good and cheap, with a huge menu of healthy options

Fun, Exciting Restaurant Experience for 16th Birthday?

Second Gyu-Kaku -- it's definitely a fun time and there are lots of menu options for your group

BYOB, Great Food

Peri Ela is a Turkish place that just opened last week on Lex between 90th & 91st. They don't have a liquor licence yet (and I think it's still cash only too). Because it's so new, I've only been there once, but it was really quite delish.
