Sacramento Soul Food?

I was just made aware of another place.

"Yunece 69" or 61, located on Folsom Blvd and Bradshaw Rd. in this odd looking strip mall just west of the intersection.

This place was reviewed some time ago and givena great report on the ribs and greens, potato salad, corn bread and macaronie and cheese.
The owner is Korean, so you can also get Kalbi and other things.
She does a great job with the ribs.
When I get a jones for BBQ ribs I go there and get double greens and potato salad,
I prefer this place to Sandra Dee's.

I have also heard of another place in midtown, I think it is called "Table 260" that some of the people I know seem to like, have personnaly never been there.

Sacramento Soul Food?

Sacramento seems to be a bit lacking in Soul food, I guess Sandra Dee' is about the best at offer at the moment.
I just wish that they would get the connection of food and ambiance, a little Blues or Jazz would add so much.
I read a recent review in the Bee that commented on the former Officer's Club on McLellan AFB, it was mentioned that on Friday they have a "Southern" lunch buffet that was pretty good.
Haven't tried it as of yet but plan to in the near future.

Sacramento cuban restaurant

I have been to this place twice now, once for breakfast with two friends, it was good, they had one simple omelette and one with ham, cheese and onions, both came with toast and Croquettes, it was good, on the simple side.My friends that they were happy.

I went back for dinner last night and I really liked the food.
I took yet another friend, we shared a plate of braised Oxtails with rice and salad.
She had grilled Tilapia, also with rice and salad, which was orignially on the menu as breaded and fried.
The owner, who is very friendly, accomodated her.
It was sort of like eating home style food, very comfortable.
There is another review on Yelp. com in addition to mine.
I am not really experienced with Cuban food, but based on what I had and what I cooked out of a Cookbook as well as comments made by other diners the restaurant is very authentic.
The place is clean, they play Cuban music, the prices are good, I am happy...

Gi ve it a try and see for yourself and let me know what you think.

Sacramento cuban restaurant

Just happened to drive down Watt Ave. in North Highlands and saw a place called "Sol Cubano" Cuban restaurant.
The address is 5734 Watt Ave. east side of Watt, just past the entrance to former McLellan AFB.
I am both exited and curious and wondering if this place is any good.
I intend to try it out first thing in the morning.
They open at 6 AM and in addition to breakfast they also serve the Con Leche sandwich and Cuban coffee.
Has anyone on this board been to this place?
Please share your experience if you went.
Thanks

Sacramento, Street by street, El Camino Avenue.....

I live nearby the Flaming Grill and am just thrilled to have a spot for great burgers within walking distance.
Once I even brought a bottle of wine, they did not have a system in place, just opened the wine and provided glasses for me and my friend.
They are very friendly, have great food, not to mention the beer selection. I am hooked on the Sourdough Patty Melt...it has become my comfort food.
The salads are nothing to write home about in my opinion.
Check out Yelp.com, there are many great postings on that site. It seems that this is the site where folks from Sacramento post these days....

Sacramento early breakfast?

sorry about the duplicate posting and thanks to both of you for the good ideas.
They sure sound a lot more interesting and yummy than either Denny's or Lions.
Next time I have a jones for both good food and people watching I will know where to go.

Sacramento early breakfast?

A few days ago I got up extra early, 5 AM,
I was in the mood for coffee, breakfast and interesting people watching/and or conversation.
I found nothing other than Denny's or Lion's.
It seems that there was a write up in the Bee some time ago naming some bars or other local dives that did serve all night or early food.
Can anyone here help me out, I might have another early morning breakfast emergency.
Thanks in advance

best Korean food in Sacramento?

I have been to Oz, which seems a little over the top, but not bad overall.
My favorite has been the Korea House for the past years, but there seems to be fluctuation in food and service due to frequent ownership changes.
Does anyone have some other suggestions for me?
I would appreciate it.
I lam interested in the Bulgoki, the Kalbi, the Chop Chey, the Yakimandu, the soups and some of the Kimchis but am open to all suggestions.

Cuban food in the Berkley area or close by?

I just came back from Miami and was able to sample some of the Cuban foods.
I love the food and the ambiance of the restaurants I went to but could not play as much as I wanted due to time limits and a group that was totally not experimental on my level.
Now I am looking to explore in the bay area, hoping some of you kind people on this board could recommend a place or two.
Thanks in advance

Lips gospel brunch

Coming to visit the Ft. Lauderdale area in March. While checking out events, food and otherwise I came across the listing of a gospel brunch given at LIPS on Sundays.
Has anyone here ever been or know anyone who has?
Interested in food quality as well as entertainment value. I am also interested in good Cuban food in the area.
Please share info. Thanks

Any authentic diners in Sac?

I think the Railroad Cafe would qualifiy for the diner category.
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, BBQ ribs on Frid/Sat and Sunday.
They close at PM though.
Great food, it has become my latest down home favorite place

Breakfast survey in Sacramento?

I saw that my breakfast comments did not post, so I'll try again.
My recent favorites have become the Railroad Cafe and the Market Club.
Both are old fashioned diners, great food, clean, personable and not of the chic variety.
That is a plus for me.
Also, never a line.

Breakfast survey in Sacramento?

I have been hooked on the Railroad Cafe for a few months now, it is a very down home diner, the food is great, the place is clean and the owners are very friendly, and they play Zydeco music. What more can a person want...
They have been reviewed several times by the Bee and keep getting outstanding ratings.

breakfast in sacramento: Railroad Cafe

Hey Tracy, glad you liked the Railroad cafe.
I should mention that there is no "Zydeco Juke box" rather they play CD's of a good selection of Creole music. Sometimes they forget, or put on football, but all you have to do is to say "Where is the music" and they put it on for you.
By the way, they were mentioned again in the Bee just recently in a selection of 10 restaurants, forgot what the heading was.

house of chicken and ribs-antelope

I think you may be referring to the "Railroad Cafe". It was recently reviewed in the Sac Bee.
They serve both breakfast and BBQ ribs on the weekend.
I like it for both, breakfast and the ribs, I prefer the flavor to Sandra Dee's.
Sauce is wonderful, they close early, 3 PM.

breakfast in sacramento: Railroad Cafe

I went back for the third time to taste their BBQ ribs, this time I brought my neighbors along.
All of us were very happy with the flavor of the smoked ribs, brisket, hot links and chicken and loved the sauce.
We started off by having some Peach cobbler as an appetizer...very good.
What began as an "let's give this place a try" to get a good breakfast has now changed and became a fixation on the BBQ.
The food is consistently good and I love the Louisiana music they are playing.

breakfast in sacramento: Railroad Cafe

Hi Benny, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. Just posted my impressions of the BBQ rib dinners I had yesterday on your BBQ thread.
I hope that some of you check this place out and let me know what you think.
I like to support small businesses such as this, because they deserve it.
Been to Louisiana lately?

Everybody Loves Bar B Que (sacto)

I found another place with geat BBQ, it is the Railroad Cafe on Auburn and Old Roseville Road.
I initially went there for breakfast, found it to be good, the owners very friendly and the place very clean.
Yesterday, Saturday I tried the BBQ first time and loved it, so did my partner.
I used to think that Sandra Dee's was the best in town, but like the flavor of this place better.
Slow smoked meats with a great sauce that made me lick my fingers.
I tried a combination with Ribs and Brisket and one with Ribs and Chicken.
Both came with a selection of side dishes, I had green beans and potatosalad, the other plate came with beans as well and cole slaw.
Salads ok, beans great, meats spectacular.
This would be an option for those who like a place closer to town.
The two owners, a young couple, seem to really have their heart in the right place, but due to their locationand lack of advertisement are not getting the business they deserve.
Keep in mind they are only open to 3 PM most days.
Oh yeah, they play Louisiana music, makes it kind of unique.

breakfast in sacramento: Railroad Cafe

After reading a recent review in the ticket section of the Sacramento Bee I decided to have breakfast at the "Railroad Cafe."
The location is a bit out of the way: Auburn Blvd. and turn left on Old Roseville Road, in the mustard yellow building next to a small grocery shop.
The place is immaculately clean, the food is well prepared and good as well as reasonably priced.
The selection is about the same as for most breakfast places, they also serve BBQ ribs on the weekends, which will be my next thing to try there.
I was impressed with this cafe, I happen to like small places with personality as opposed to chain restaurants.
The young couple who owns the place are genuinely friendly and really try to make a go of it despite the location.

I would apreciate ideas and recipes

I have recently joined an social group which designates a region or a country as a theme for either going out to eat or for a pot luck at their meetings.
The first meeting is a potluck and the theme is "North West ."
When I think of this area what comes to mind is Salmon, but then I thought of all the friendly brains I could pick, right here on this board.
So please, would you please help me out here and share some ideas as to what I could bring.
I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks in advance

2 new ( to me) places in Sacramento

I found two places I would like to share with others.
One is a BBQ place called "Rubs" located in a strip mall on Howe Avenue, right next to Pete's Pizza.
Odd location witht he entrance around back.
They smoke their meats and serve the sauce in a salad bar type set up.
I ordered a two meat combo,1/2 of a chicken and sliced Brisket and actually only tried the sauce as an afterthought, the meat was that good.
I did not care for the cornbread, the Macaroni salad was ok.
I could see going back just for the meat.

The other place is the Fiesta Mexicana on 65th and Elvas.
They serve Michuacan style cooking. I tried the Posole and a Chile Relleno.
Both were outstanding.
Service was very friendly and the prices were reasonable.
My friend also very much liked her combination plate and raved about her Relleno, saying it was the best she has ever had.
The very pleasant surprise was the music.
A couple, Katrina and Mario, both from Columbia, perform latin American music each Sunday from 6;30 to 8:00 or so.
She has the sweetest voice and plays guitar, he plays flute and Saxophone.
This would be a place worth visiting again and again.
I am glad I found it.

any good mexican restaurant ingreater sacramento?

Just read the posting about Xochimilco on El Camino, I went there a few times because it is in my neighborhood.
Now in their place is Las Pupusas, they serve El Salvadorian food. I saw a review in the Bee in the recent past and tried it out. I liked it, have never had Pupusas, went back several times for more. No atmosphere and a loud radio station, so I get the Pupusas to go...

any good mexican restaurant ingreater sacramento?

I recently found Pancho's Mexican Grill located on Stockton Blvd. and 13th Ave. It is Jalisco Style food and I found it to be yummy and authentic, tiny place, little athmosphere but great Posole and Burritos and Tacos. Have not tried everything out yet but plan to go back real soon. I think this place is worth a try for you.
