Pumpkin recipes (canned or fesh)

I turn to CH to help with my one and only pregnancy craving- Pumpkin. I'm up for any type of recipe, savory, sweet you name it. So far I've made a very nice black bean- pumpkin soup with jalepenos, iced-spiced pumpkin cookies, pumpkin cranberry muffins and a disgusting pumpkin milkshake. I try to eat fairly healthy, but can do a unhealthy recipe in moderation too. Appreciate in advance your favorite pumpkin recipe :)

Craisin Muffins?

7 months pregnant and craving pumpkin, made these last week, popped a few in the freezer to make sure they kept well. Had one heated in the toaster over this am. Still super moist and very tasty!

Pumpkin-Cranberry Muffins

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (about 6 3/4 ounces)
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 large egg
2/3 cup sweetened dried cranberries, chopped (such as Craisins)
Cooking spray

Preparation
Preheat oven to 375°.
Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour, baking soda, and next 5 ingredients (though cloves); stir well with a whisk.
Combine granulated sugar and next 5 ingredients (through egg) in a large bowl; beat with a mixer at medium speed until well blended (about 3 minutes). Add flour mixture to sugar mixture; beat at low speed just until combined. Fold in cranberries.
Place 12 paper muffin cup liners in muffin cups; coat liners with cooking spray. Spoon batter into prepared cups. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes or until muffins spring back when touched lightly in center. Remove muffins from pan immediately; place on a wire rack.

Frozen Pizza

That damn Digiorno cheese stuffed crust is my total weakness. Basically only "processed" premade food in my house!

2011 Favorite Places to Eat - Tampa / St. Pete

Refinery- love the ever changing but always delicious menu, and the lack of ambiance, ambiance

atz- lunch and brunch ;)

Toasted Pheasant- small menu but very fine tuned. Best version of chili fries i've ever had (spicy boar ragu and cheese curds- to die for), plus its very close to my house

Yummy House- s&p calamari, short ribs, duck fried rice

Black Pearl- romance, excellent food (killer pork belly, mmm) quiet, elegant

(Old standard that I sadly haven't been to in '11) Mystic Fish- never lets me down, south african lobster tail and or sea bass, nice for a special "date night"

Toasted Pheasant Bistro (Carrollwood)

Its a nice little place, I live in the area and like it for lunch. Food is well thought out and tasty. Not too bad with prices, esp if you get a restaurant.com gift certificate :)

Have you been to Kouzzina?

Went for anniversary dinner and while it was good it was not great and was very overpriced. Disney property has some other, better places for a special event. Very family oriented, casual vibe- noisy large open space. View of the kitchen was cool though. Have been to all the Iron Chefs restaurants now (except Michael Symon) and this was my least favorite.

Spectacular Burger today at this new place in Carrollwood in Tampa...

Yeah, a local (as in North Tampa) burger place with great service and more importantly- Great BURGERS! So my husband and I took my dad and 10 year old nephew to BM. Everyone was very pleased. I got a 6 oz with pepper jack and banana peppers, hubby got 6 oz with Chai Chup and grilled onions, my dad got a 6 oz with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and my nephew got a (gasp) chicken sandwich *shaking head in shame*. I am always a bit let down with 5 guys burgers and knew I would be happy just when I saw this burger. It was thick and juicy, and the flavor- spot on YUM. And really- truly medium rare, yes! The fries were perfectly crispy, balanced salt. Fries are my ultimate weakness and they were right up there on my list of favorites. Surprisingly my nephews chicken was also quite good, moist and well seasoned. It was around 45 bucks for the 4 of us- thats with a water, 1 fountain drink and 2 very generous and tasty milkshakes. I am quite eager to go back and try a version of Eds burger- minus shrooms. Just have to run to the gym first, lol.

Birthday dinner (for 2) Memorial day weekend

Spending my last Birthday of my 20's in Chicago. I would really love to go to a nice place for dinner on the evening of my bday. We have reservations for Frontera Grill Friday night, and Mercat a la Planxa on Sunday. My birthday falls on Saturday, I prefer a place with reservations so we don't have to wait around all night. I like to dress nice and my hubbie doesn't mind either as long as it isn't a suit. Obviously those are the least important things, I don't care about the scene- I really just want an Amazing meal. I like pretty much all cuisines, from authentic Italian, ethiopian, all forms of asian (esp Sushi and Thai), and good ol American, which could be anything right? Obviously mexican and tapas but already getting those on other nights. Open to all suggestions :) Thanks

If you absolutely HAD to eat at Maggiano's (The Grove)....

I have eaten a few here a few times with friends for random birthdays, celebration type meals, its always been a pleasant experience even if not so memorable "i have to go back there". We also had our company party here last night. One of the people I work with used to be a waitress there. She filled me in on the details. The pasta is shipped in refrigerated and dishes are made on site. Including the sauces, from scratch. Anything not used at the end of the day is disposed of, either to staff or sadly, the dumpster. IMHO my mother makes the best lasagna in the world, because of this I rarely order it at a restaurant. However the meal was preordered and it looked pretty good. I did try it and wound up eating the entire piece I took. Yum, I was impressed, not my moms but tasty not the less. I could tell the lasagna is made with "fresh" not dried pasta. The chicken pasta dish had a very heavy alfredo sauce, I did try it and it was good but a little too heavy for my preference. The salads, esp the spinach version with crispy prosciutto were quite good. Calamari app was tender, a little too much breading but still good. Stuffed mushrooms tender and flavorful. Last of all was supposed to be the cookies but they were out and replaced it with a fantastic mint tiramisu.

Butcheries, fish and produce markets in Tampa

It is called Bearss Groves.
14316 Lake Magdalene Boulevard
Tampa, FL 33618
(if coming from 275 side its on the left just after light on Lake Emerald Blvd. if coming from Dale Mabry side you will see all the signs and groves before the road on right)

Filled a canvas bag yesterday with onions, garlic, apples, bell and poblano beppers, butternut squash, cilantro, chives, mint, basil, (herbs all 99cents a bag), some tiny juicy asian pears, scallions, ginger and some horseradish chedder cheese for about 20 bucks. They also had a lot of really nice looking pumpkins, fresh boiled peanuts and a large array of winter squash and gourds.

Crescent City Farmer's Market?

Just got back from my trip to NoLa. I did include a trip to the Saturady market (at 9am, after a late night that was rough but doable). Started at the first booth with homemade scones and cinnamon buns- both flaky and super good. Would have been nice heated but obviously difficult to do in a parking lot, lol. CCFM booth had a decent coffee for a dollar that went well with "breakfast". It was definetly a "neighborhood" market feel, intimate but well stocked. Plenty of seasonal produce including some lovely apples we bought for later. A great fresh goat cheese booth that went great with bread. There was a huge amount of seafood booths that looked great. And we got some pralines and nipples of venus as well. All in all it was a nice little diversion to the FQ that we enjoyed.
PS Afterwards we went to the WW2 museum down the street. It was a really well done place, I highly recommend it)

Need some help and I am asking a lot...

Thanks, have filled in the hubbie and he has taken out his jacket! Appreciate the heads up :)

Need some help and I am asking a lot...

Hey CHers, is a jacket and tie required for dinner at August? It wouldn't be an issue but would like to know in advance so my DH and I can actually make our reservation next Friday night! He would be pretty annoyed buying a new jacket when his would be sitting home in the closet, lol. He usually does khakis and a polo or pants and long sleeved collared shirt...

Yet another- what do you think post...

So DH and I are flying into NOLA in 2 weeks on a Friday. We arrive around 11 am and will probably head to Mr Bs for the BBQ shrimp and YaYa for lunch after we check into our FQ hotel. In your opinion is this the best place for New Orleans style barbeque shrimp? We already have reservations that evening for August (its our anniversary).

Wanting to go to Crescent city FM on eith Sat or Tues, not sure which is better...or what is in the area "to do"?
Thinking about a swamp tour vs plantation tour (grew up in FL, not so sure I need to see gators and swamps, lol) during the day and will prob get a muff from Central grocery to go.
Debating between Stella and Emerils for Saturday dinner. Followed by a pub and bar tour/crawl.

Sunday will prob be Commanders for Brunch, and not sure about dinner choice. Hoping to give the pocketbook a rest after Fri and Sat dinners. Really love Tapas and Sushi but not sure where to try those in Nola or if we would rather stick to regional cuisine, maybe an inexpensive-moderate local seafood type place? Looking into Habitat for Humanity during the day on Sunday or Monday.

Monday brings a fair amount of closed places places will probably start off people watching over beignets and cafe au laits at Cafe du monde. We have been to the zoo on a previous trip and I was wondering if the aquarium is any good. Definetly want a roast beef po boy for lunch, not sure where to get the best one. Enjoyed Bayona on a previous trip bu t have heard it has gone downhill, where else would be a good dinner choice?

Tuesday afternoon we head home, will possibly try Stanleys for breakfast and another muff to go for lunch. Unless we go to Crescent city FM on Tuesday and we would take home bounty from there...

Thanks so much in advance, DH and I really enjoy your city and all it has to offer!

Crescent City Farmer's Market?

Is there also a Saturday market? I am hoping to fit a trip to the market while in NOLA and wondering which day is best...also to add to the OP original ?, is there anything else in the vicinity of the market "to do or see"?

Butcheries, fish and produce markets in Tampa

I go to a nice produce stand on Bearss, its on the south side of the street about 2-3 miles off Dale Mabry. They grow some things onsite, and have a wide selection. Prices are pretty fair also, large bags of fresh herbs generally 99cents. They havea few coolers and freezers as well, some local cheese, juices, milk, and eggs, honey, breads, etc. I also like the Asian market on Dale Mabry, in the plaze with Tampa Pitcher show. Great selection of dry goods and spices, along with a small amount coolers for produce, etc.
Edit- my husband has been to Cox seafood and likes the selection. I vouch for him, although I haven't made it there myself as of yet!

Ocean Prime - Tampa

Beth- my DH and I also felt the singer was quite terrible and obnoxiously loud. Glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way. As a matter of fact, the people next to us(a group of 3 30 something women) also requested that it would be turned down. Agree that the food was lovely but the singing almost turned us off the place. And this is coming from a 28 year old that enjoys live music, at least when its good and played at an appropriate time and place, lol.

Local home Supper clubs in Tampa area?

Hello CHers. I have recently settled permanently in Tampa area (Carollwood) and would love to join or start a monthly home supper club. I am a fan of Cooking Light magazine but didn't have a ton of luck on their local boards. Was wondering if anyone on here was in one, or interested in starting one with me? My hubbie and I are are both pushing 30 and are thinking a group of 8-10 people (singles/couples/mother- daughter/best friends, whatever!) that love good food cooking and eating together would be great fun. Anyone interested?

Sushi in Tampa Bay

Oh that stinks! I love sushi ren! Any updates on the place?

Sushi in Tampa Bay

Have been twice to Sushi Alive, very happy with the sushi itself, but agree service is a little slow. Once for luch at a table, was fine. The second time for dinner at the sushi bar. Lets say that the sushi came out PRIOR to our salads. And although they were very good house style ginger salads, I was shocked it took so long. The sushi bar itself was very effecient, it was more the waiter that was kinda spacey. I love their innovative menu tho so I will go again :)

Top Chef Masters Finale 08/19/09 (spoilers)

Hubbie and I wonder who the winner was from Tom, Gail, and Padmes vote... wouldn't that show how individual each food experience is? I was super happy for Chef Bayless, however it was nice to see each of the top three do so well!

Foods you refuse to eat as leftovers?

Ew ew ew, cold crab rangoon are worse than reheated. I couldn't actually swallow it. Oh well, to each their own.

Foods you refuse to eat as leftovers?

Haha, I have a doggy bag complex too! I always have to bring home what I didn't finish. I have def left it in the car, pee-yew, windows open for that ride to work! I think its from my dad, he has a thing about food going to waste.

Foods you refuse to eat as leftovers?

Hm. That is in the fridge for lunch today and I was dreading the soggy-ness of reheated crab rangoon, but cold... we shall see. I am not a big fan of leftovers for dinner, but frequently package them up for lunch. M,uch better than hospital cafeteria food, lol

Best sandwich I ever invented

Not sure where your info came from but:
1 tbsp mayo contains about 10 grams of fat and 90 calories+
1.5 gm of that is saturated= heart attack in a jar.

And by the way that was 2 years ago and I have made it one time since. How often do people slather mayo on a sandwich, daily, 3 times a week, once every 2 years...
