Nice Restaurant In London
Thank you so much, I appreciate it. I did enjoy a glass (OK let's not fib more like two or three) of champagne at the hotel, if for nothing more than sheer ambiance! I took the advice of throwing exchange rates by the wayside and instead indulging in the food. The Greenhouse was fantastic! Thank you for the suggestion!
Eel banh mi at Sea Salt
I love Sea Salt! Everything I've had there is amazing! Next time you are there try their seared ahi, it is some of the best I've had anywhere. Also, they have an oyster happy hour that is to a great deal (I believe it is M-F 4-6 but I'm not positive). Word is they will be putting a full bar in soon, I think this will be a great addition to their phenomenal food!
thank you for the suggestion!
Nice Restaurant In London
Thank you for the suggestion, I'm still laughing over the raw vegetables and olives being charged. What about good happy hour drink specials or evening appetizers and drinks?
Nice Restaurant In London
I had not scrolled down to see any of the responses yet...wow the conversion will be rough! I am willing to spend more then, I do not know if any of you are familiar with any San Francisco , but here are some of my favorites (in both atmosphere and food). Chez Panisse, Zunni, Olivetta, 900 Grayson and in NY I enjoy Balthazar and Pastisse.
Thank you for the help!
Nice Restaurant In London
I will be staying at the Ritz in London for the coming week. It is a company trip, and I will be working long hours. At the end of the day I would like to have a nice dinner (not outrageusly expensive but entrees up to 40 are fine), light couisine (I live in San Francisco and prefer california type cuisine but I am up for ANYTHING!) I would also like an atmosphere that is not too stuffy. Thank you for all suggestions and tips!
Just Fabulous - San Diego
Phee, where is Just Fabulous located? do you know how often they offer the risoto?
HELP! Happy hour in Downtown San Diego
I'm back in town for a few days and am staying with a friend in downtown, we're looking for a good restaurant with happy hour drink specials and of course food specials. Thanks!
San Diego, home to the third largest Iraqi community in the US--but where's the cuisine?
My roommate for the past year is Iraqi and the only place her and her family would consistantly go is Ali Baba's I believe it's on El Cajon Blvd and I must say they have the best Tabulej (sp?) and fantastic chai, also their Arabic bread is great, made fresh and still warm!! mmmm
Help please, I'm coming to San Diego too
I agree with Blue Water as a great lunch spot. I would suggest Blue Point downtown in the gaslamp for evening, I've had the best oysters of my life there as well as great salads and appetizers, also my date said the steak he had was fantastic.
Near the airport there is Island Prime, which is a little dressy but they serve a similar menu at their adjoining dining area C Level. The view is unbeatable and they have a good happy hour from 4-6. It is literally a stones throw from the airport so it may be a good place to stop once you've landed.
Also, near the airport is Little Italy where there are two places I would reccomend. Bon Appetito on India street has good food and is open until ten, while the adjoining wine bar is open until midnight I believe. If you find yourself there the warm duck salad is amazing!
San Diego restaurants are bad
The only one I can truly testify to is the hotel del where the food was barely adequate, and the service was right there with it (they were upset when we asked to have our apple crisp warmed through since the center was still cold).
San Diego restaurants are bad
I moved from Portland (which has amazing food) and previously lived in SF, and have had trouble in San Diego. I would recommend Island Prime, the steaks have always been perfection and the view is unbeatable. Also, the appetizers we've had there (there is one with scallops on risotto that stands out in my mind) have been quite good. There is also Ortegas in hillcrest which has yet to dissapoint. Also Lou and Mickeys in the gaslamp is a good steak house, you're correct, none of these are culinary bliss but there is still a handful of good catches out there.
Good Italian Restaurants in Little Italy and San Diego
I'm a fan of Bon Appetito in Little Italy. It's just across from Indigo Grill. Their duck salad is fantastic!
San Francisco Takeout/Delivery Menus
A friend recently sent this my way, I haven't yet tried it but it appears to be helpful.

Sonoma or Napa vineyard pacakges
A good friend of mine will be having a birthday in early March and we would like to put together a small group to go wine tasting. We both recently moved to the area but are both wine lovers and know that we've landed in the best spot. Does anybody know of any vineyard or perhaps agency that puts together nice tours? Something where we could be picked up at a nearby hotel and be taken to the various spots. I'm not sure if this exists but I figure this is the place to find out. Thank you!
Vegas Restaurants at moderate price
Are we near any places where we could share a few appetizers and have a nice wine pairing? Or for that matter any winebars?
Vegas Restaurants at moderate price
I now know that I'll be staying at the Gold Coast on Flamingo Rd. Sounds like it could be a culinary whole, but who knows. Hope this will help direct. Thank you!
Eccolo or 900 Grayson for brunch?
I went to Eccolo for brunch just last week and while the service was underwhelming the food was great. I had the eggs benedict which were as previously stated, and the person I was dining with had the Omlette with crab and it was unbelievable. Also as I've mentioned before the bloody mary's are are hands down the best I've had.
I agree on the price to food ratio not being on par for dinner.
Best Salads in Berkeley
The Nicoise is very good at La Note, however, I would recommend paying the extra three dollars and getting the tuna steak rather than the canned that comes with it. It makes a world of difference.
Best Salads in Berkeley
I'm getting on the Eccolo train as well, my favorite is the mixed greens with grapefruit and goat cheese. If you add chicken it's a complete meal.
Vegas Restaurants at moderate price
I believe my hotel is across from the Bellagio, however I am not opposed to cab rides. You are correct Chez Panisse is not a 20-25 place, that's just to give you an idea of the type of food I enjoy. thank you!
Vegas Restaurants at moderate price
I will be in Vegas from the 11th-15th and will be working all day. I would like to find restaurants with great food (I love sushi, good salads, california cuisine...some favorites in SF include Chez Panisse, Zuni, Oivetta....). I would like somewhere that isn't too pricey (plates up to 20-25sh) has a good wine and or drink menu and is quiet and relaxed. Thank you for your help!!
Japanese in East Bay?
Joshu-ya on Dwight and Telegraph is as good if not better than Kirala but about half the price. I would reccomend sitting at the bar, the fish tends to be better when you do, along with faster service.
Happy Hour in East Bay
Thank you both, what could you recommend in the city? My only stipulation being that it is relatively near a BART.
Happy Hour in East Bay
Looking for a good place that has both food and drink specials. Any food type is acceptable, looking for good drink specials as well as food specials (preferably with more to offer than the usual greasy bar food).
Best tapas in the East Bay
I recently went to ACote in Oakland and found it preferable to Cesar. Not as spanish-y but I found the plates to be better than Cesar. I would reccomend a reservation as it was crowded at 830 and we waited even with our reservation.
Vino Venue?????
Thank you Robert, any recommendations a light dinner nearby? Or do they serve small plates there?
Vino Venue?????
Located on 3rd and mission. I've been interested in visiting but heard very mixed reviews. Have any of my fellow chowhounders been? What are your thoughts?
Lunch at off hour in the city
Price up to 30-40 per person. I'll be on Bart and have no problem with walking a few miles (4-5 is no problem). The party will just be a friend and I. I did look at Perbacco, but would love input from other chowhounders.
thank you for the input
