favorite restaurant in nj
Highland Pavilion, because of the view of my favorite place in the world -- NYC --, and the service, and food is very good too... :) Honorable mention to IL Casetello's in Woodbridge, for the food & service and China Cafe Chinese takeout, because Rikki makes the best ribs.
New Brunswick Restaurant Week
Is DueMari participating? I sent them email, no response. Nothing posted on their website either. TIA
Metuchen Inn
Thats a shame, but I'm not surprised. I blogged on this years ago, knew it was a fire trap and completely dated. NO handicapped access, no downstairs bathroom, wires running everywhere. When I asked the mgr she said they were only leasing the space and it was not in budget to convert to HA, upgrades etc...
Where are the Artichokes?
I just bought 2 @ A&P, for $3.00, and 2 weeks ago from Wegmans (dont remember price. Wegmans also has the mini's, they're just "ok" any time of year). The size is medium only. I think its too early yet, maybe by beginning-mid April. The texture is still tough, not been happy with them yet. I'm hoping they get better!
Gluten Free dining in Middlesex county
I saw a sign yesterday on a storefront in Fords, off New Brunswick Ave, across from Siperstein paints (not sure what the street name is...). "GLUTEN FREE DINING COMING SOON". IDK if this is an old sign, new or opened and closed (not very helpful I know...). BUT maybe someone else will see the post and know more.
Diners Drives Ins and Dives in North Jersey
oops, too many letters -- baumgarts / sorry to the friendly CH's... i kinda liked it there, egg cream was decent and the food was fun. not gourmet. didnt realize they were a chain though. just found it to be a fun place, not the four seasons...
Diners Drives Ins and Dives in North Jersey
mcsheridan, that sounds like a great place! esp for DDD.
Diners Drives Ins and Dives in North Jersey
JayinPortland, love CDI for what it is, i think its a good fit for Triple D although no BIG sandwiches. Of course remember if you doooo come back that way during the winter, they are closed until Spring. In the Summer, they're closed on Mon&Tue too I think. Burger Express in Carteret is good, they were closed for a year or so and had to move due to NJT construction but are now reopened in full force. GREAT fried chicken sandwich, fries, friend chicken, etc... Ummm. I dont think Guy does chains but we like the garbage pail at Famous Daves, and then of course there's Harolds in Edison. Up in Englewood is a fun tasty place, Baumgartens - Chinese food and milkshakes - LOVE IT... :)
shanghai bun, matawan nj // gross ANY decent dumpling places in Central Jersey?
Uh, crystal, the original post was THREE years ago -- hello. There were styrofoam plate then, the place was gross. I dont do chains so not sure "where that comes from". Heard they recently upgraded the decor, thats good. Shabby and dirty are two different things, so hopefully 3 years later thats changed too. I'm a regular to nyc chinatown, not a stranger to different languages or cultures having studied abroad. have a great day and enjoy your meals there.
Best Restaurant in New Brunswick Area for Business Meeting (10-15 people)
DEF Due Mari, or F&Peach depending on budget. Clydes is a "fun place", not corporate but has decent prices. FUN place, also not corporate but they may have a room -- Harvest Moon Brewery. Close to train, hospital etc.
Soup dumplings in north central nj
shanghai bun is DIRTY! sorry, nothing positive to contribute only because i dont know of another place but i do know i def did not like SH BUN, -- help was nasty too, and would never return there! Ive been going to chinatown for many, many years, seen all types of joints.
RIP-Jack Coopers -Edison N.J.
Oh thats a shame, they really were good. Great pickles. I wonder what happened there, I know for me personally our office moved and we're not near there now... Economy, Harolds competition, mall competition (the deli in menlo is decent, the pastrami is pretty good...).
Special 60th Anniversary dinner suggestions please
finally remembered... Ye Cottage Inn. Place has been there for 100 years. Its "nice", its pretty, and food is ok. Again, not Great gourmet food but something I think "parents" like. I know mine would, and they were just married 65 years!
Special 60th Anniversary dinner suggestions please
Rooney's in LBranch maybe? I have not been but heard the view is great. Its on my list to try. It's pricey. Stella Marina in Asbury supposed to have a nice view, not been there either LOL. BAHR's is still good, not great but good. All these have views. Went to a place in the summer, why cant I remember the name, in Keyport. Was fun, a tad dated appearance, but pretty view and food was ok. i'll write back the name comes to me!
Restaurant David Drake - What's Up?
If I were from Rahway, which Im not, I would be a tad p/o'd you wrote "a Westfield, Hoboken, and Red Bank it is not" ... Dont knock a town thats been trying to reform itself for years. That being said, I am prob the ONLY person that ever posts on CH that DIDNT like DD. It was pretentious, the menu was weird and the help was snobby unless you were alot of dough. on overpriced bottles of wine. Its tough for ANY restaurant to stay in business, rent is astronomical. Even Tavern on the Green closed, as did Cafe de Artistes. Things change, it was time for DD to move on.
OLIO, MARRIOTT WOODBRIDGE
New, in hotel. menu is mixed, place looks pretty. anyone been?
Christmas Day, midtown $35-40

IL Pomodoro, Somerville, NJ
We enjoyed another great dinner last night at Il Pomodoro in Somerville! The food was delicious and the service excellent. The owner, John Provost, is very accomodating (i had requested a very specific table), and he's quite charming. We started with raw oysters dressed wtih caviar, and sprinkled with iced vodka (poured at the table), and sweet pistacio encrushed shrimp. The entrees we picked were very very tasty; pork osso bucco with risotto, and medallions of filet with gorgonzola & a light brandy cream sauce. The pork was perfectly cooked, and the beef tender. Dessert was a trio of crembrulee, and a chocolate tartufo // increbile (I've attached pictures) The restaurant is carefully and tastefully decorated, the santa is spruced up, the chairs are set at an angle, and candles everywhere. Still have to try the sister restaurant, Tapastre, downstairs, unique in its own right. Il Pomodoro strives to impress and delight, and doesn't dissapoint. Ummm, delish, can't wait to have my leftovers!! :)
Wegman's Princeton now selling wine and beer?!
see what i mean, people only care about convenience, understandable but too bad for the small business "guy".
Wegman's Princeton now selling wine and beer?!
CGTinPtown, do you mean can Two-Buck be far behind in the time constraints? I think Wegmans has the time issue because they most probably are restricted from selling at anytime because of area competition -- local liquor stores. FWIW, not that anyone cares, I voted NO liquor @ Wegmans in Woodbridge. They will put family run and local franchise stores out of business; they've already affected delis, other markets etc. NOW don't start everyone yelling at me, I love Wegmans. Most of their product is superior, some is overrated. But let them not become Walmart (not that there's anything wrong w/ Walmart) but small businesses need to be part of our communities.
Dressed Up in Central Jersey
Highlawn Pavilion - not sure if this is out of the scope of CNJ, but they request jackets for men, and the ambiance suits it (no pun intended)... Love it there.
Recommendation(s) needed for Somerville / Bridgewater / Raritan area?
LOL, thanks John for clearing that up... I love your restaurants, and you're one of the few owners that responds to the CH blogs, esp about their own restaurant reviews. Can't wait to come back this holiday season for another great meal and hopefully the pumpkin gnocci will back on the menu!
Tauros, Tapas Grill Rahway NJ
I've gotten a couple of flyers in VALPAK recently from Tauros in Rahway. Anyone been? They dont have a website (cmon it's almost the 2nd decade of the new century...) so hard to see the menu, pics, price$, etc... Coupon reads Full Bar, Take/out. I'm thinking this WAS originally a bar and they incorporated a dining room?
16 prospect, westfield
what's it like? food any good? seems a tad pricey but attractive. whats the atmosphere like?
Recommendation(s) needed for Somerville / Bridgewater / Raritan area?
LOVE Il Pomodoro $$$ and it's sister restaurant Tapas (downstairs) $$. VERY good food, atmosphere, Not BYOB. http://www.ilpomodoro.com/
Chianti Ristorante Route 9 Lakewood NJ
Ive heard from family members who live in area (iv not personally been) that the food is very good but pricey, and portions on the small side; also charged when asked for extra sauce... that i dont believe but was told. Id give it a try, I like their menu.
