Argentine Olive Oil?

Thanks, I'll have to give it a try. Came back from Mendoza a few months back - can't get the local wine, beef, arugula and olive oil out of my head! Out of the list, only the wine (and hopefully the olive oil) are available here!

The olive oil, like I guess the wine and beef, are bold, peppery and full-bodied.

Argentine Olive Oil?

Anyone know where I could find Argentine Olive Oil for sale in the city?

Slide-in induction ranges

Hello - I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Did you eventually decide on an induction range? Which one did you end up with?

Texture of a commercial beef Hot Dog

Thanks! This is great - so the key is putting it through the food processor in small batches with a little water to make it a mousse. I was putting it through the food processor - but I think I have to grind it for much longer than the couple of pulses I was doing.

Texture of a commercial beef Hot Dog

Hello - attempting to make homemade beef hot dogs/wieners. The problem I'm having is in the texture - it comes out more "crumbly" instead of the denser/firmer texture of commercial beef hot dogs.

Any ideas/tips on getting the texture right?

Whiskey Decanter

This is amazing - instantly added to my wish list! Thanks!

Charcoal Starters - Chimney vs. Electric?

Anyone try the Looftlighter?

Whiskey Decanter

Any thoughts/suggestions? Something that is modern would be nice (not the old school grandpa crystal).

All-Clad Induction Burner

It seems like your analysis is right - the only advantage that the All-Clad might have is in ergonomics (a dial as opposed to buttons to increase/decrease the power).

In terms of performance, I was mostly talking about speed-to-power, reliability etc.

All-Clad Induction Burner

But any experience with the performance for this specific model? Is it worth it over some of the cheaper options out there (ie. Max Burton)? Thanks!

All-Clad Induction Burner

Thinking about purchasing this as a portable burner for the deck:

Does anyone have any experience with this? One of the features I'm most interested in is if a 12" cast iron pan fits properly?

Thanks.

Buenos Aires in October for Gluttony

Thanks - I definitely will do!

Buenos Aires in October for Gluttony

Well, turns out that we didn't up going at the time of the original post - but, my girlfriend at the time is now my wife, and we're going to Buenos Aires for our honeymoon from Nov. 15 - Nov. 20 and looking forward to trying all of these recommendations!

I'll definitely report back after we get back!

Thanks again for all the recommendations!

Looking for good Indian delivery (and other delivery as well!) near Vic Park/ Danforth in East York

Thanks for this - well made Haleem rocks!

Hyderabad House - Scarborough find for regional South Asian cuisine in Toronto

Wow - this is very exciting if true. Hyderabadi cuisine is one of my favourite regional cuisines of India. The biryani can compete with all the greatest food culture's rice dishes - if well made.

On the to-do list this weekend!

Where to order Tuna packed in Oil?

Looking to order 24 cans of Tuna packed in Olive from BC from these guys:

Miami Valentine's Weekend - Food Fest

Anything? Don't have to answer all of them at once! :)

Miami Valentine's Weekend - Food Fest

Hello,

I will be visiting Miami for a Valentine's weekend with my fiancee on Feb 13-16. We are both big foodies, and would love to have a very food filled extended weekend.

Specifically looking for (we're coming from Toronto):

1. Higher-end Cuban/Latino food
2. Seafood place (specifically showcasing Florida/southern seafood) - Stone crabs?
3. Unique Miami dining experiences - both at the low-end and the high-end.
4. Romantic dinner spot (could be any of the above) for the actual Valentine's day
5. Other "street food" type things unique to Miami (tacos? cuban sandwiches?)
6. Other places to catch a drink/cocktail on the beach/hang out in the evenings

We will have access to a car, but will be staying in the Brickell and South Beach areas - so hopefully something that is less than 30 mins away from each.

Thanks in advance.

Getting Japanese Knives Sharpened

Buy one of these: Chef's Choice 315S
http://www.paulsfinest.com/Chefs-Choice-Model-315S-Diamond-Electric-Knife-Sharpener-for-Asian-Knives-Black-p-774.html

Don't use Step 1 (coarse) more than twice a year, use Step 2 (fine grit) mostly in between those two times. Yes, knife edge fanatics will rant and rave about using whetstones and yes, whetstones will give you a better result. However, the big problem is that your hands will have to get the angle right, which takes a lot of practice I've found.

You said you have a Misono - the edge is some funky 70/30 configuration which you will lose using the electric sharpener. The electric sharpener gives you a very sharp 15 degree edge instead.

Going to O-Mei today for Birthday dinner - what to order?

Going to try O-Mei on Hwy 7 for the first time tonight for a birthday dinner with 5 people total. Already have in mind the lobster - but outside of that, what are some other things to try? What are some good "wok-hay" dishes to try as well?

ISO really good pulled pork

I got a XL Big Green Egg just telling me to feed it a giant shoulder...

Thanks - maybe I'll check out EM in Kensington this weekend...

ISO really good pulled pork

Where in Toronto do you get your full Shoulders (butt plus picnic)?

Hong Kong without a sportcoat??

We're doing the same HK+Bali trip week after next (Oct 5 - Oct 18). Let me know about any HK and especially Bali eateries that you have confirmed or have heard are must-eats!

Buying Japanese Knives in HK

Yes, that does help! I'll take a look when I'm in HK in two weeks. Thanks.

Knife sharpening? Someone I can trust.

Anyone have their knives sharpened from Degrees Kitchen Store at Younge and Eglington? The dude at the counter seemed to know that Japanese knife edges are different than Western blades? (that's at least a step up from Nella which would be totally destroy the edge...)

Buying Japanese Knives in HK

I will be visiting HK for 6 days in 3 weeks. What are good places to buy Japanese Knives in HK? Looking for selection and price of course.

Buenos Aires in October for Gluttony

Thanks for all this! It's been very helpful - keep the recommendations coming!
