weird pan conversion

I'm hoping to make an old family recipe, a "sultana cake", which is to be baked in a "long loaf pan". This is a 13" x4.5" x 2.5" pan. I don't have one, and don't really want to buy the only one I can find, which is at King Arthur. The conversion tables I've found online don't list this size. Any thoughts?

low fat, vegetarian restaurant in Gloucester?

ah, that might work! at least I can get the fish tacos I've been craving, and my parents can eat leaves.

My parents are coming to town. Usually we end up at Chinese restaurants, or Indian. Any ideas for where to go after we hike Dogtown?

Any real seafood in Southern NH?

the fish at Big Kahuna (the Pepperell fish market) is so fresh you can really tell it was just in the ocean the day before...I try to go once a week. She makes a good seafood and zucchini casserole too, and the crab cakes rock.

Any recommendations for a freezer cookbook?

I'm looking for a cookbook that will tell me what can be frozen and how--not so much a "200 freezer recipes" type book, but more one that I can go to when I want to know how to freeze a cake or the strawberries I just picked or egg whites. Any ideas?

How can I learn to become a good cook?

I started out with "The Joy of Cooking", but I didn't really learn to cook until I got hooked on "Cook's Illustrated". Now I've learned enough proper technique that I can move away from my CI cookbooks (though I don't, usually) and make things that taste really good.

Lodge cast-iron dutch oven for bread?

I've made the bread a number of times in my Lodge, which I think is 6 quarts, and it's been wonderful.

ordering le creuset on line

I ordered the same thing a day later, and not surprisingly, I'm having the same experience. But what a deal! for $136 for two LC items, I'll wait.

Belfast and Up North to Down East

my wife and I had our honeymoon in Machias, and ate at both Helen's and the Bluebird. While we were there--in June--there was a television crew there to tape "the best blueberry pie" in the universe, or something like that, meaning Helen's. We had some the next day, and wondered if all the good stuff went to the TV crew. But I loved the lobster rolls--several times.
