Trying to find black truffles in Philly burbs
You should try finding some wild ones when you have the time. Look for good, loose soil and either Pecan, Basswood, Hawthorne, or even tall fir trees. Take a shallow, small rake with you and just scrape the topsoil a few feet from the trunk; all around the trunk, and look for what sort of look like small wrinkled potatoes in the ground. If you see them, just dig them out, put them in a sack and keep looking. When you get them home, rinse them and scrub lightly with a brush, then dry them on a towel for about 20 minutes.
The ones you find under Pecan trees are almost identical to Italian whites (a bit less fragrant, but mighty good). If you find too many to use within a week or so, then put them in good olive oil or 50/50 extra virgin and canola mix, they'll keep nicely there and make the oil deadly sinful.
Try it, there are plenty to be found in PA and most of the US.
