The Black Hoof
928 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6J, CA
Looking for a place downtown for a birthday dinner, ~15people
Jamie respectfully, little at Milestones is "great"
Pickering recommendations
Highly rec'mnd the Burbs.. good resto anywhere in the GTA with a creative chef and attentive service. IMO much better than Port
Best Lunch on Mt. Pleasant
How about Homeway? On Mt. Pleasant 4 blocks north of Eg. Good lunch place. Like their sweet potato fries.
Best pizza that delivers (to Yonge & Eglinton)?
I agree. We ordered BigMans last night. And we were pleasantly surprised. Good crust, fresh toppings and quick, friendly delivery service.
It's not the best pizza in the wrold but, a far cut above most and certainly worth the 15% premium than ordering from the chains.
best burgers in T.O.
anyone been to rails and ales lately? they had the best burger in the city..
decent chicken souvlaki at Asteria east of Pape, south side of Danforth
thnks for the heads up. ive walked by the place many times.
2009 closings
too bad. Hero's deserves to close.. however all these closings certainly are a sign of the times
What was your favourite restaurant that went downhill after they solidified their status
I believe the spot that housed Herbs is now becoming a Mexican restaurant
What does Austin do well?
Hello fellow foodies, coming into town next week from Toronto and will have two nights were I get to choose the eating destinations.
I'm looking for any ideas of from the local Austin foodies on which restaurants I should check out as they offer choices that are uniquely Austin or any restaurants that will give me a great feel of dining out in Austin.
thanks in advance,
lowchen,
Cajun Corner Leaving Leslieville
I don't know about the new location. I wish them the best of luck but, Laird is really not a destination street... kind of like having a restaurant on Bathurst... both streets to me at least, are more through fare than a destination spot.

Sofrito?Anyone...
Hey foodies, I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find a restaurant in Toronto serving Sofrito?
I'm interested in not only the Latin American version, (specifically Puerto Rican & Cuban versions) which is more a base for stews...doubt there is a good restaurant in Toronto that does this well but, would be pleasantly surprised if anyone had a good rec'
but also and more of note today, the Greek ( specifically Corfu/Kerkirian) version which is a well tenderized veal slow cooked in a white wine, garlic and herb sauce and is usually served with rice. We had the dish in Corfu a few years ago and both the Misses and I loved it. We were in Boston last summer and found a Greek restaurant in the North End that did a very good version as well but, have had no luck locating a restaurant serving a worthwhile version in TO.
wondering if any of the knowledgeable foodies have a local spot that does Sofrito well.
lowchen,
Best Bagels in Toronto
I must say I dont think T. does Bagels all that well. I prefer MTL bagels or the bagels at the Ottawa BagelShop. my .2 cents
Best Indian restaurant toronto suggestions??
Though isn't price always an issue when doing an "apples to Apples" comparison??
Jaipur Grille review
wow so your significant other is the person that actually reads Joanne Kates. I knew eventually I'd find the one person who reads her.
With regards to JG, the office is nearby and we've had office dinners there (before Ikaros opened across the street and we started going there) and Ive always wondered why it's usually so empty. It certainly deserves at least a half full room.
Windsor Arms turns Purple?
I always enjoy afternoon tea at the King Eddie. Plus, i really, really love their sovereign ballroom-one of my favourite room's in Toronto.
Any good Dim Sum Downtown?
New treasure is certainly equitable to McD's. I also have had good experiences on KDS on Baldwin street.
Pan on the Danforth
YaddaYadda, I certainly do agree with your summary of Pan. I have rarely enjoyed Pan and refrain from going there all things considered. However I respectfully call BS on your post with reference to Avli. I have been going to Avli for many years and we just had an excellent meal there on Thursday night. It seems like you have an axe to grind with the Danforth and in particular with the price of some restaurants on the Danforth. While we all enjoy discussing our hound exploits these posts here seem a tad personal and that makes me sceptical.
Lunch near 401 in Mississauga?
consider Aioli. Huronontario and Burnhamthorpe It usually takes 10 minutes from the 401 nad 3 minutes from the 403. Very good italian food and well priced for the quality. there are probably other more detailed reviews on it on this board.
1st parents meeting - but where?
how funny. I just did the same thing in April!. We were confronted with orgainzing this and we chose Avli on the danforth. Firstly if your finacee's parents are from out of town, the danforth is a great street for out of towners and secondly the food is Avli is very, very good, well priced and the food is not too eclectic.
Patio with Upscale Food
I like George. But, I think many overlook Messis which has an awesome patio and very good food as well. Plus, for many who do the business dinner thing, this can be a new destination.
Parea Review
Went to NYC dring memorial weekend and prompted by this board we tried Parea. It was awesome. i could not say more good things about this place. The zucchini and ocutpus apps were some of the best apps Ive ever had. Also really enjoyed their wine list. This is a must be food destination.
NEWFOUNDLAND - suggestions?
thanks very much for the review. We will be in the rock in the feb and your post will come in handy.
A Great New Sushi Restaurant on Eglinton near Allen Road
Two th8ings.
1) Sado is OK. Certainly not as bad as Kates made it sound but, also not worth a drive to a neighbourhood that is not really a foodie destination and has little appeal to out of towner's either. If you live near by then fine otherwise why bother?
2)Kates is a spoiled, chip on her shoulder, insecure North Toronto kid who should really not be read. Come on who in the right mind takes such a person seriously? Looking for objectively in a Joanne Kates review is akin to searching for objectively in Wolf Blitzer cnn piece on the middle east...
estates of sunnybrook
the estates are a wonderful setting setting for a wedding. Its certainly not cheap thou.
Bombay Masala - Excellent New Indian Restaurant at Bathurst and Eglinton
interesting as I usually consider Bathurst and Eg a wasteland for foodies. thanks for the scoop on this place.
