20% off Pastry Sale at Williams Sonoma-Today Only

Just ordered some croissants myself. Even though their shipped overnight from the vendor, it takes a little over a week to process each order. I also found out that I could ask to have a "Holiday Hold"
put on these and that way they would ship a little later and arrive closer to XMAS. Only way to do this though is if you place your order by phone. Online doesn't allow you to do this. Can still mention "PASTRYSALE" and get the discount too.

20% off Pastry Sale at Williams Sonoma-Today Only

Includes those wonderful croissants as well as alot of their other pastries. Does say there is a limited supply at 20% off so guess best to order asap if interested.

Also on a side note, last year I signed up for their Reserve Membership which was $30.00 for the year. With this, most things on their site ship free and during the year I also received several promotional sales that were just offered exclusively to us. I never thought I would say this, but it was more then
worth it. If you think about it, just 1 order of croissants or anything else for that matter, is atleast $10.00 or more in shipping. So if you need to send any presents during the holidays from here, its definitely a good deal. I have enjoyed
the convenience of not having to run to the store for my Illy Coffee on a regular basis as well. So much easier to just click away. Just a thought.

Jupiter Seafood Recs

My best friend recently moved to Jupiter and although I haven't been myself to theses places, their definitely on our list to go when I visit her. "Leftover's Cafe" and Jettys as others mentioned for sure. I know she likes both of these places alot.

"Flash Grille" in Hobe Sound. - She recently went when her mom and some friends visited for the day. They all really liked it. I think she said they're only opened Thurs. -Sun now but I would call to be sure.

"Cafe d'Artisite" in Jupiter- I know she's been several times. Although it is a french restaurant, they always have a fish entree to choose from.

"Courtyard Grille" in Hobe Sound- upscale place but suppose to be very good.

Oh, what I wouldn't do to eat at any of these place now or just have some seafood. When I move back to Fl., hopefully real soon, I think I'll be eating seafood almost every meal too. (I moved temporarily to a place where the seafood isn't that great and I'm missing it big time especially after living on the coast my whole life and having access to some of the best seafood all year)

Help me pack a little more protein into banana bread

Yes, I would try the Greek yogurt too in place of the sour cream. Just to give you an idea, a 7oz container of 2% Greek Fage has 20 grams of protein. The no fat version has slightly less.

You could also opt just to have a protein shake along with your slice of banana bread each morning and solve everything. Thats basically what I do to make sure I'm getting enough protein with breakfast everyday. I use a whey protein powder and just mix it with water, I have 20 grams of protein each morning. If you start adding fruit then you get into more carbs. I'm sure it would be okay to also add it to the batter if you prefer but think you would consistently know how much protein you were getting each morning the other way.

I also like the Chia seed that MoCoMe mentioned. I try to sprinkle them into everything. Some say they have a nutty flavor but I don't notice anything. They are very high in fiber and the richest known vegetable source of Omega 3 fatty acids. They have 3x the antioxidants of blueberries, more calcium then milk, more iron then spinach, and is a better protein source then beans and soy. (I compared the ground flaxseed I have with the bag of chia seeds and the CSeeds almost has double. For 1 tblspn CS= 2.5gm protein vs 2 tblspn Flax= 3gm protein) I know your recipe calls for flaxseed meal so it may be different along with the consistency factor but in general you should definately try the CS sometimes and see what you think. Good luck!

Best pasta sauce in a jar?

Recently tried Mario Batali's tomato basil and loved it !

Trader Joe's Lemon curd in a jar

.....Ina Garten's fruit salad with limoncello......

Watched her make this the other day on the foodnetwork and looked really good. Was just about

to order some lemon curd from Williams Sonoma so I could make this too.

Ice cream and ___________ = a winning combination

"Enstroms "toffee crumbs.......and of course, some chocolate

Olive oil (Armando Manni and/or other premium oils)

Williams-Sonoma now has "Manni Oils"n some of their stores too. I was surprised when I
was talking to the manager at the Time Warner Center in NYC about something else and we got on the oil topic and she told me they had "Manni Oils"in their store and not just thru their catalog.

I thought if any of the stores were to carry it, this would make the most sense since Thomas Keller's restaurant is right there and he is a huge fan of this oil but she told me she thought other large " big city" WS would also have it in their stores. Also happened to mention how Manni himself came in their store and told them all about his oils....how neat that must have been!

Couldn't believe it when I saw it in the WS near me this past week-end in Ann Arbor. Its a nice WS but the mall is not one that you would call upscale in any way. I think I knew alot more about the oil then any of the employees working there. It will be interesting to see how long they carry it atleast in this WS.

Thanks Chowhounds for this wonderful find! I've been researching this since I saw it first mentioned here on the boards several years ago....I even had called my AMEX back in the summer to see if they knew of any place I could order it in the states soo was
really excited when I saw it on the WS website. I think they are also offering free shipping on it now too. Bought several as xmas gifts now just have to buy another one for myself.
(This was listed in a book I saw " 100 Things To Buy Before You Die". Hopefully, I still have some time.)

Olive oil (Armando Manni and/or other premium oils)

Just ordered some thru Williams Sonoma. Beside the 2 olive oils they also
have the "Manni White Truffle Extra Virgin Olive Oil". I'm sure its just a holiday
item for now. I got the free shipping for a year that they offer for $30.00 so this was
covered under that which made it not so bad especially if you order anyways thru them during the year.

I use "L'Estornell Olive Oil" myself most often. Also bought a bottle of "Antico
Frantolo Muraglla" Olive Oil from Dean and Deluca recently to give to one of my best friends. Haven't tried it myself but got good reviews. The bottle is really pretty and reuseable too. All I need is a ribbon. I think she'll love it!

Best Mail-Order Crab Cake?

So funny I am seeing your post now. Just finished watching the "Today Show" that I taped from
this morning and heard Kathy-Lee telling a story to Hoda about how she had some good friends stop by to drop off a XMAS present for her last nite and happened to mention how she warmed up some crab cakes she had from "Costas" along with making a salad etc. Anyway, I googled it shortly after and found the website and bookmarked it for future reference thinking what a great gift this would make.

Their in Baltimore, Md. and offer mail order. You may want to check on that "chow board" just to see what other hounds may have to say about this place. Hope this helps. What a great gift and I agree...some very lucky friends! Good luck!

Which coffee cake do you prefer.....Boston Coffee Cake or My grandma's?

Just thought I'd pass this on....

Ordered "My Grandma's" coffee cake this year for those same neighbors that I was debating on
sending it to last year. What a nice surprise it was when I found out they were having a special and the gift tin ( while supply lasts) would be included with the price of the cake. A $4.00 cake tin charge along with my $2.00 coupon saving...not bad.

P.S. These coffee cakes were just featured on the "Today Show" as one of the best coffee cakes. If your lucky enough to have a store in your area that sells them, great to get one for yourself for xmas morning too.

Query: Where to buy imported French Chocolate bars in Miami?

Michel Cluizel chocolate bars are one of my favorites also. Epicure Market on Miami Beach has
them along with many other imported chocolate bars. Great place to shop besides!

If anyone is looking for coconut M&M's

Just curious....Have you been able to find the pretzel M & M's and if so where?
I feel like I've been on a goose chase looking for these ever since you first mentioned these. (M &M's have always been one of my favorites)

Babka / Jewish Bakery

Epicure Market for sure. I love that place.Their bake goods are phenominal. Their Babka's are very good too as well as their rugella. My sister-in-law swears their as good or better then any NY bakery. I use to routinely ship her up some and always brought a huge care package every time I visited my family up North from there. Once I even carried a whole cake on the plane from there. I have so many favorite things but its almost impossible not to get something good. Best to call the day before if you know you are going and specifically want a Babka. as everyday they don't always make them or if you get there in the afternoon, chance they will sell out. So if you call, they'll reserve one for you. Also, I prefer the whole Babka rather then the mini ones. As far as Passover, they do several differnt cakes as well. I always love their sponge loaf. It's just a great market and definitely worth visiting.

I think Epicure is so much better then Flakowitz. For me, I use to like Flakowitz years ago when they were in Lauderhill but now not so much. Expensive too.

If anyone is looking for coconut M&M's

I recently called Mars customer service looking for these too. They told me they are now a permanent item but because alot of people are unaware of this they have been flying off the shelves but they should be available in Target, Walgreens and other places that have M &M's. I guess best to keep checking. Good Luck!

Which coffee cake do you prefer.....Boston Coffee Cake or My grandma's?

Finally tried My grandma's coffeecake and thought it was excellent. Lucky enough to find it in one of the upscale markets here and happened to be on special for $8.99.(reg. 12.99) I was with my husband at the time and he insisted on getting the granny smith apple coffee cake although I had wanted to try the original. It was very moist and I liked that there was no butter after taste which I had noticed with the sourcream coffee cake from Zingermans which I had earlier. Found out they use no trans fat or butter. Reminded my husband of a Jewish apple cake. Will definitely get again and have no problem sending either original or this one as a gift.

There was a paper insert in the box that listed promo codes that I could use on future mail order purchases. I checked with the company this morning and found out they were still valid.

Best Mail-Order Bread?

Without a doubt, Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Their breads are amazing and they have the best customer service. They go above and beyond to make sure everything is right with your order and also guarantee it. They are incredibly nice here besides. I sent several gifts of bread this Xmas and everybody seemed to really enjoy it. One neighbor just told me that she called the place to have a catalog mailed so she could order more. Said the breads were so fresh and perfect when they arrived and couldn't get over the packaging. I added the cartoon gift box as I selected my own assortment. Instructions for storing, heating and serving were also included for every loaf.

I am lucky to live close to Zingerman's and be able to go often and pick up fresh bread but I had been mail-ordering from them for many years before I moved to Michigan after reading about them initially from other Hounds here. What a treat it is now!
If you do place an order, make sure to get the pecan raisin bread. They say in their catalog, its like a chain reaction-when someone serves it for brunch, the next week their guests are calling to buy it for themselves. (Almost like what happened to my neighbor that I sent it to). Its delicious. I can eat a whole loaf myself. Its that good!
Every month for a short time, they usually do a specialty bread that you might not see on line but you can call and ask what it is and if they are able to ship that specific bread or check under special bakes at their bakehouse. Next week-end their doing a roasted garlic italian bread and at Xmas they do a cranberry pecan bread. (Its good, but I still prefer the original one)

Which brands are you loyal to?

Count me in as another devotee of Illy. Have also had Lavazza and really liked that as well. I have been getting the Illy coffee from William Sonoma ($13.95) but will definitely check out World Market as I think there is one not to far from me. Thanks.

Which coffee cake do you prefer.....Boston Coffee Cake or My grandma's?

Just wanted to say "thanks Bagelman01" for the reply. Funny thing was my sister-in-law happen to mention that her neighbors had brought her a Boston Coffee Cake as a xmas present. Then I remembered they had also given her one during the summer while I was there. For me, it just isn't my favorite kind of cake to eat. I prefer a nice babka or seven sisters danish or pecan ring however; for that type of coffee cake I say it was good and my older neighbors back in Fl.who I was thinking of sending it to would have definitely liked it.

I smiled when you said the weight and size has been reduced over the years...how true that rings for so many things. Its just amazing too what an inexpensive cake like that costs when you have to buy on line and then throw in the shipping cost as well. For a 3lb cake, both were around $30.00. They had a smaller one at GCC for $20.95. Then add some shipping charge to Fl. and its crazy. You really got an incredible deal....$3.99??? Thats insane! I would have stocked up too.

I sent my neighbors the gift of bread from Zingermans here in Ann Arbor instead. That also added up with the shipping and $10.00 gift box but they all seemed to really enjoy it so
it was all worth it. I guess the extra cost of mail order is just one of those extras you deal with when you live in smaller towns and your friends and family are somewhere else.

I know I'll have an occasion again to send something and I think I'll give "My Grandma's" a try despite everything. I liked the idea how you can get it pre-sliced and the tins( atleast the holiday ones) were really nice. Supposably, this is the same cake they
served at the Plaza Hotel...now how bad could it be??? Thanks again.

What is your most memorable mail order food gift ?

Just came across this thread and your post. Made me laugh.Isn't that the truth about Enstroms! Sent it to a friend of mine this year for xmas and she called me saying she just couldn't stop eating it and it was all gone within 24hrs. I told her the same thing happened to me when I got my box. Good thing I sent her the big box...I think.

recommend a ground espresso coffee for home espresso coffee maker?

I love Illy brand too. I also use their medium ground roast (for drip coffeemakers) for my everyday coffee. Having a cup right now..so good.

Best website to buy tea?

Harney and Sons is another good place to check.

Best wine you've had under $15

I also like "Kris (Pinot Grigio ) in that price range. Not bad for $11.99.

Food gifts I've gotten [moved from South board]

Artlee, I know this is an old post but was just searching for gift idea posts and came across this thread. I was so glad to see that you seemed to like the Squirrel Brand nuts. I recently bought a box of the Town and Country Mix and I was having second thoughts thinking afterward I should have gone with the Creme Brulee Nuts or even the Black Truffle Almonds (just seemed a little more special) but since I ordered them on line, it wouldn't be worth it to make that switch. Is the Trail Mix that you had the same as the T. & C. Mix I'm talking about? Anything special??? I usually order Bazzini Nuts..this my first time trying this brand. The packaging definitely makes a nice presentation when giving it as a gift.

I just ordered some Enstrom's toffee today. I love that stuff. Was curious about the Peppermint Bark too. Will have to try it sometime.

Porterhouse from Peter Luger

This is probably one of the best gifts I both gave and received. If money wasn't an issue, I would send it to everyone on my xmas list too. The first time I sent it to my brother and his wife, they were thrilled. Said they were screaming with every bite. Then when I came to visit them a few months later, they surprised me by making dinner and serving the porterhouse steaks which they had ordered that week. They said they wanted me to experience how good it was for myself. It was definitely one the best steaks and meals I've eaten without even having to leave the house. I'm still drooling thinking about it.

Great mail order food gifts you give

StrawberryF....I just called R & D's now to order the latkes but they said today was the last day they made them and it was to late by the time I called.... and Chanukah isn't even over yet??? What a bummer..they would have made a perfect gift for my friend and her kids too. Normally, I would have the same concerns as you about mailing them but all I can say is that everything I've ever sent or received from R & D's has arrived perfectly and they've definitely got the packing down right so I would have faith if they are offering something as able to ship. Well guess I'll have to wait till next year to try or give the latkes but there is always their blintzes for now. (I recently sent a care package and included them...just heard back they were really good)

Which coffee cake do you prefer.....Boston Coffee Cake or My grandma's?

The cakes both appear so similar when looking at them on line, curious to know if there is a real difference between the two company's and if so, which would you recommend? Thinking of one as a xmas gift for someone. TIA

best coffee brand, period!

I'm an Illy's coffee lover too..the best

Great Pinot Noir under $20 -- Is there such a thing?

"Cloudline" (Oregon) is another one to try. Very good for that price range too.
