Here's what's slated for food court of Central Sq H-Mart

Assuming that H-Mart actually really does ever open up in Central Sq, these are three of the restaurants that want to open up in the food court section.

Sapporo Ramen - same as the one in Porter Sq

Angora Cafe & Turkish sausage pizza. Who else offers this?

In Packards Corner (Allston) there's a very average looking pizza/sandwich joint called Angora Cafe which actually has delicious pizza and offers Turkish sausage as a topping. This sausage is so good and very different than typical pizza sausage. It's hard to describe but it's very dense, tangy and game-y tasting in my opinion. They call it "sucuk" but apparently it can also be spelled "sujuk" or "soudjouk". I've moved out of that neighborhood and I'm curious who else offers this as a pizza topping?

If you're in that area and haven't tried Angora's pizza, I recommend it. It's more Greek-style crust than Italian which normally I don't dig but the crust is so good. Normally I just ditch the crust on Greek pizza but Angora's is doughy and delicious. And the cheese is a really nice tangy blend with what I think is more sharp cheddar than usual. Tip: Getting a slice from under the heat lamp isn't as good has ordering a whole freshly made pie.

Japan Festival 2013 is tomorrow. Any stand-out food booths?

Japan Festival 2013 is at City Hall Plaza tomorrow (5/19). At the link below is a list of all the food booths. Anyone recognize any of them as being exceptionally good and/or otherwise hard to come by any other time of year?

http://www.japanfestivalboston.org/bo...

For example, there are a couple of ramen restaurants listed -- Nikko and Butan-Chu -- which aren't Boston restaurants as far as I can tell.

(Last year I went and it was so packed that the food lines looked hours long so I didn't get any food. But this year the venue is bigger so I'm hoping that will help.)

Coconut milk in BPA-free packaging?

I just did a little googling and found that TJ's does sell something called coconut cream. Is that what you bought maybe?

Coconut milk in BPA-free packaging?

Interesting! Didn't realize they started carrying this. I wonder if the cans are BPA-free. Last I heard, TJ's wasn't 100% BPA-free with all it's canned products but they say they are working towards it.

Yeah, I'd love to find this. I'll have to check some more Asian grocery stores.

Coconut milk in BPA-free packaging?

Oh yeah. I should have mentioned that TJ's does have BPA-free cans of coconut milk but it's "light" which is too watery.

I'm looking to use it in smoothies. Just got myself a Vitamix! Oh, and there's a really nice chocolate pudding I make sometimes which is just chilled coconut milk, cocoa powder and a little honey all blended together. So good and it's low in sugar.

Coconut milk in BPA-free packaging?

Anyone happen to know where in the Boston/Cambridge/Somerville area to buy coconut milk in BPA-free packaging?

I'm looking for coconut milk for cooking with. Not the milk-substitute kind they make for pouring in cereal.

Checked Whole Foods, TJ's, Harvest and they all have BPA-lined cans. Also checked my local Asian and Indian markets with the same results.

According to my research some brands that have no BPA in their packaging are:

Aroy-D
Natural Value
Native Forest

Thanks in advance if you happen to know!

Who carries wide variety of Polar seltzer flavors

Granny Smith Apple sounds great! I'll have to head over to Porter. I swear the Central Sq Shaws doesn't have the same variety but maybe that has changed. Thanks!

Globe reports Whole Foods looking to buy chunk of Johnnie's Foodmaster stores

I echo your sentiment of how nice it is to have access variety. Especially if both stores are close to where you live/work. I go to WF for lots of stuff but there are a few products I use regularly that WF doesn't carry that Johnnies does.

Globe reports Whole Foods looking to buy chunk of Johnnie's Foodmaster stores

My spouse went to our local Johnnies Foodmaster this week and they told him the whole chain is going out of business. 6 are becoming WF, 4 are closing.

Who carries wide variety of Polar seltzer flavors

With the sad news of my neighborhood Johnnies Foodmaster (Somerville) closing, I'm wondering where else I can go to find the more elusive flavors of Polar seltzer such as Orange Vanilla.

Any tips? I like to buy the cases of cans, not the 2-liter bottles. Close to Somerville, Cambridge, Boston, etc would be best to know about. Thx!

(I regularly check Shaws, Target, etc but they all seem to carry the three most popular flavors and that's it.)

Curious why ramen is so rare and yet sushi joints are on every corner?

And your comment on the repeated basics on menus reminds me of "Chinese restaurants" that for years seem to have the same template -- chicken fingers, pu pu platter, boneless ribs, duck sauce, etc. I guess that's what has happened with "Japanese restaurants" to some extent.

"It seems that all over this country, with only a few exceptions, sushi and sashimi have overwhelmed the very deep reality of Japanese cuisine."

This is a very good way of stating it.

True. I'm glad someone is doing real yakitori here.

And on that note... Every time a hear about a new Japanese restaurant opening, I get a glimmer of hope that they'll serve something like sukiyaki or yakitori -- but, nope, 99.9% of the time here Japanese restaurant equals sushi with the obligatory chicken teriyaki for non-sushi eaters.

Curious why ramen is so rare and yet sushi joints are on every corner?

With all the fervor for the new YumeWoKatare, I wonder why really good authentic ramen is not something more chefs are keen to make here in Boston? I've been to Ippudo and Totto in NYC and on every night of the week the lines start forming 1/2 hour before they open for dinner and don't let up all night.

Just curious whether anyone has any theories/thoughts. And quite frankly, I just like to talk about ramen! Ha. (Anyone here had ramen in Japan? My favorite place was chain called Kamakura.)

I've been pining for really good ramen since visiting Japan. YumeWoKatare Ramen (Porter Sq - former Zing Pizza location) just opened and looks promising.

Anyone been yet?

Interesting. I bet that's how Hilltop does it since it comes in a metal dish that restaurants use to pre-make the food and then heat it up later. But they still make it darn tasty!
