How to create an original, local based christmas menu
Hello All,
I am getting excited about the upcoming Christmas as I have a heritage turkey just down the road fattening up for the big day. We have family coming for the three days - 24/25/26 and we are also going to be building an outdoor oven for the occasion. I am now starting to plan out a menu for all three days, ideally using local ingredients and mentality. Besides the turkey we have a Spring Salmon that I caught this summer as well as many vegetables from the garden and apples from the orchard. Christmas eve will include oysters and perhaps some halibut that I also caught this summer.
I am looking for interesting, thoughtful recipes, ideas, concepts from you to help create this menu!
Thank you chowhounders for your help!

Monday night birthday dinner
Hello All!
I have been looking for a place to dine on Monday for my birthday and need some advice. I have made reservations for Wednesday night CAJ and have actually made reservations at Robert & Louise for Monday night as they are open(!). I just found out that Ze Kitchen Gallerie is also open on Monday, and is Chez Denise as well?
Some bad reviews of R&L have me hesitant. I know that R&L and ZKG are very different, but what counts is that the food is excellent (value too-not too pricey) and that the place, ambiance is nice, enjoyable. This means for me lively, filled with people and friendly unpretentious staff. I want to be able to relax and enjoy my food!
I hear that Josephine is open-perhaps- on Mondays as well, but it seemed a little more expensive. I am aiming for 30-35 euro set menu.
Thank you so much for any help you can give!

I am heading to Carnac, in the Morbihan area of Brittany for a few days. We are taking day trips in around the area and to Belle Ile en Mer. Does anyone have any tips/recommendations for places to eat around here. We are definitely prepared to make special trips for good food.

Aquitaine/Basque food tour
Hello!
I am a Canadian foodie in France for the year and my boyfriend is coming to visit me in December for two weeks. I was thinking of planning a food motivated tour south of the loire (I am in Nantes) going down to the French and Spanish Basque country.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am a student so I will have to skip on an michelin-starred or super pricey restaurants for now (sadly) so not Arzak this trip. Focus would be local, seasonal food, pintxos and markets. I especially love exploring smaller town and areas as well.
I would very much appreciate any suggestions,
Thanks!
Questions about Chez L'Ami Jean
So- I suppose I should go eat there then, when I come to Paris in December.
I can't wait!
Best almond croissants?
'Fous Desserts' On Laurier East at St. Hubert!! These are simply incredible. I felt... well I felt I had just indulged in a pastry unlike no other. Fous Desserts has quite a few amazing options actually, including their regular croissants! You have to try them!

help-Eating in Montreal with my grandparents!

help-Eating in Montreal with my grandparents!
So both my grandparents(81 and 84) are coming to visit at the end of June for 5 days. My grandfather is a swedish pastry chef, and my grandmother is guatamalan. They don't have very adventurus palettes, but I would like to go out somewhere where the food is good, so that i don't have to suffer. They are from Vancouver, and usually eat greek and asian food when it comes to ethnic foods. Any recommendations? breakfast/lunch or dinner? Thanks!
L'express or Au pied du Cochon with Dad?
My dad is on his way to visit for the weekend, But we can only go to one of these classic montreal places. Should we go to Au pied du Cochon, or L'Express. And what would you recommend? Thanks!

Cheap, but good dinner in the plateau--recommendations?
I think the Sapnish social club is pretty good, on St. Laurent, you share all the dishes, and it wasn't bad price wise, the food was great!
What's the Best Frozen Pizza?
my favorite is Ristorante pizza in either the mushroom flavour or spinach.
Stockholm Eats?
If you happen to be visiting the Modern Museum of Art, the cafe and restaurant there is excellent, the best one I have ever visited. The Chef who opened them is a gourmet chef, who competed in the culinary olympics. His name is Per Gustafson.
Eating out in Rome

Intimate cooking classes in Tuscany
Villa Delia is a beautiful and wonderful cooking school in between Pisa and Florence. They have a huge amount of land with grape vines and olive trees. They make all their own olive oil and wine. I would highly recommend it. You can find out about it at www.umberto.com
Tuscany:Restaurants in a beautiful country setting or with a great view of the countryside...

Where to visit and eat in Canada
So- In Vancouver one must eat:
Sushi:
either eat at the bar at Tojo's on West Broadway
or eat at Octopus Garden(not on a Monday, since the head chef Sada San has the night off)
@ West Restaurant, on South Granville
some others that are good are:
Lumiere, Bishop's, and C (for seafood), Vij's (for indian)
And for traditional, delicious european pastries and a great lunch, head to Liberty Bakery on Main Street.
The Sooke Harbour House on Vancouver Island is also great.
