Takeout in Tribeca? Suggestions?
Roc and Landmarc would be my 2 picks in the area for you.
Bagels in the east village?
thanks - i think i messed up my search. much appreciated!
Bagels in the east village?
I'm new to the neighborhood and am looking for a place I can grab a good bagel (not interested in cream cheese, etc) on my walk to work. Ideally I'm looking for something between A and Lafayette, Houston and East 10th.
Your favorite underrated slice?
L'asso does a great slice (in addition to the rest of their pie menu)
downtown coffee shop for small group
Mocca on Reade Street is cute and has interesting coffee drinkss
Wedding location help? (ceremony+cocktails+dinner/dance - 150+ guests)
I got married there 2 yrs ago and while i have nothing but raves for the food, staff, setup, etc - it's not at all close to 120pp, especially now...
Cocktail with St. Germain
i'll 2nd union square cafe, also upstairs at bouley, grammercy tavern, . it's pretty easy to make a good drink at home using it without getting too fancy. I'll mix with vodka and sprite, vodka and soda, with champagne, etc.
Best Steakhouse with a Vegetarian
Landmarc in Tribeca or TWC would be good. They have a number of vegetarian entrees including a great grilled portabello dish prepared like steak, along with 1/2 a dozen cuts of real steak
new underrated best burger spots
i've had the burger at Bouley Upstairs a couple times and really enjoyed - except the last time i went and ordered it medium and it was brought to me so bloody and rare I couldn't eat it - when i told the waiter, he replied it is medium - very snarkily. I asked for it to be cooked a bit more and he took away almost in disgust. Anyways, i really enjoyed it once I got it back 30 seconds later.
Mexican Takeout in FiDi?
The Bigger Place on Warren at West Bwy delivers to fidi i believe. Really good tex mex and they are on seamlessweb
What to order at Mesa Grill?
Another vote for the pork. The goat cheese queso fundido is yummy too.
Best Tuna?
We have a friend in town from Norway and loves Tuna. Milos is already a possibility. Anyone have any other recommendations for really good tuna (non-sushi)?
Thoughts on quality at Cafe Gray before closing?
I believe A Voce is opening up a 2nd location in it's place and there's a rumor that Cafe Gray will be moving to Times Square. The rent is quite high at Time Warner so unless they are running at capacity it's probably tough to stay afloat there.
Thoughts on quality at Cafe Gray before closing?
I've been to Cafe Gray a couple times before and had fantastic meals. My husband and I were really disappointed when we learned that it would be closing and thought that maybe we'd try to go 1 more time before it closed for a special occassion we have.
His concern is that the quality of food and service might not be as high as we previously experienced because the place is closing and the staff might not care as much.
Any thoughts on this?
Need the best cupcakes and Carrot cake
cupcakes: either sugar sweet sunshine or crumbs.
Sports bar in Tribeca w/ good eats?
both busters and devil were closed either earlier this year or late last..
Help w/ Brunch
Recently, I've had great brunches at Jane, Good and Paris Commune, all in the west village.
Tribeca - SOHO, need recommendations for bagels and/or bakery cafes
I second bouley market, also try Mocca (also in tribeca)
bar with classic mixed drinks
I'll 2nd Brandy. It's tops in my book for quality cocktails. Unique, stong, nice atmosphere.
Colors Restaurant-- has no one at all been there?
I went a couple months ago. The service was not so good, we got a free dish because they apparently forgot about it. The food was ok, not great. I read some negative things (after a lot of searching) but had higher hopes. The night out was for an occassion and we thought we'd try something different, not so over the top but the night definitely lacked our usual celebration. Kinda deflated for me.. I don't plan on going back.
Where can I find the best chocolate covered pretzels?
I 4th or 5th it. definitely my favorite!
Chipotle vs Benny's- any others??
Chipotle wins it hands down for our household. So many ways to enjoy your Chipotle. For the people that think that a 20oz+ burrito is too much, you can have them cut the portions of rice, beans, etc that are added. I for example always go with double rice, no beans. You can go half and half on your meat, which is nice when you can't decide. As many said, you can get the burrito bowl or the salad (and still get all of the same ingredients but with more lettuce). I could go on and on about why and how I enjoy my chipotle (like adding fresh cilantro), but I won't bore you. There are also other ways that you can keep it veg beyond the fajita burrito option too.
I won't touch burritoville anymore due to too many post eating "experiences." There's also blockheads, but it's the same people as benny's - just a burritoville/chipotle style to-go type place.
Looking for Mexican and good drinks with outdoor seating
i'll throw in my 2 cents, a lot of people have negative things to say about agave aside from their drinks but i have had many enjoyable casual nights out there with friends, mostly meeting a girlfriend after work for a couple drinks and a bite.
And a lot of people say negative things about dos caminos - it tends to get expensive, but they have great drinks and I have also had a number of excellent meals there too.
Mexican seems to be one of those types of food that nobody in this city agrees on. I don't think i've seen a thread that is majority positive on any mexican, unlike some of the popular italian or french places that get mentioned a lot on this board.
Where can I find Cachaca in NYC?
Astor Wines carries a number of brands - www.astorwines.com
PLEASE RANK THESE STEAKHOUSES FOR ME!!
Personally, Strip House is at the top of my list, though I have read some more recent reviews that said they had gone done about (since my last visit). Their strip steak is top notch and definitely the best traditional streak I've had in the city, good sides and apps - nothing crazy original (except goose fat potatoes), standard steak sides, but i think all are solid. And I really like the atmosphere.
I was pretty disappointed in my actual steak at BLT Steak and felt it was no comparison to StripHouse, though i really enjoyed the cheese popovers they start you out with and they have a lot of interesting and yummy sides.
