Best Kitchen Appliance Store in NYC

After looking at the overpriced options for dishwashers at Gringer and Sons and being frustrated finding a store that carried the brands/models of dishwashers I wanted to see in Manhattan, yesterday I went to Midwood, Brooklyn to Home Everything ( It's on the B train and it is a pleasant walk to the showroom. The salesman gave me an in-store discount and honored the 3% cash back I would have gotten on my credit card if I would have ordered online. I got a good price on my purchase as well.

That said, this was before I found this site and the Drimmers showroom in Manhattan. The dishwasher is being delivered next week. I'll try and update the experience.

I'm considering replacing my gas range. I looked at a couple models at the Home Everything showroom yesterday. I'm thinking about the Kitchen Aid Architect Series slide in model even though it's more expensive than the freestanding ranges. I was swooning at the option for ranges and might just have to get one!

What do you put on your bagel?

One time (at band camp), a friend made me a bagel with a thin layer of cream cheese, Next a salted tomato slice. Then add a slice of swiss cheese. Broil. I just ate one. Delicious. Curious as to what everyone does.

Foodie shopping destinations in Midtown?

I second the olive oil store in Grand Central. I think it's called Oliver's & Co. They offer a duo of orange infused orange olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar for salad dressing or whatever. It tried it in the store and fell in love. So I got this for my uncle for Christmas and have almost opened his gift 3 times. I've been daydreaming about the combination of this certain oil oil with this certain balsmic ever since. It is the best. Seriously. You will not believe how good it is.

What other restaurants have fries like Balthazar?

I enjoy the fries at Casimir. The mussels are delicious as well.

overrated restaurants

I couldn't agree with you more about Il Mulino. That place grosses me out. The prices are ridiculous, the atmosphere is lame (my chair almost broke because a screw was loose) and the food is disgusting. I got the carbonara and it was the worst pasta I've eaten in NYC. Why is that place so popular?

Regional "food quirks"

In Youngstown, Ohio some restaurants would serve the "spinning bowl" salad. From what I remember the ingredients were loads of blue cheese or blue cheese dressing on chopped iceberg lettuce with a ton of croutons. It was then "spun" somehow to make every piece coated. Looking back it was a fattening mess but a memory I look upon fondly. Plus there was a secret ingredient I never figured out.

Also, you can get Italian wedding soup anywhere in Y-town. Restaurants that weren't even Italian.

It also had Brier Hill pizza, which was a white pizza with sliced peppers.

Best Bang for My Buck Burger?

Forgot to mention that Royale changed their fries a few days ago. They're now thin cut. I have to say that I love fries more than burgers. These weren't bad but not as good as you would find at many bistros in the city.

Best Bang for My Buck Burger?

Last night I went to Royale on Ave C between 9th and 10th. I had a great cheeeseburger for $6.50. Delicious black angus with heavily-coated sesame bun. Con: They don't serve anything else except fries.

Can't find Recipe for Best Veggie Burger Ever

Thank you for the responses. Piccola, That's the recipe I remember. I haven't had that burger in years. I used to eat it all the time when I was a vegetarian. The burger is so good that I still crave it as a carnivore.

The other two recipes look great. I'm going to do some experimenting.

Thanks again.

Can't find Recipe for Best Veggie Burger Ever

My ex-boyfriend used to make a veggie burger using a food processor. Although it took a long time to make and was messy, it was absolutely delicious. It has the consistency and taste of a burger. Some ingredients are beets, oats and carrots (maybe). Does anyone know where I can find this recipe?
