Who recommended Frittata in Clawson, MI to me?

While the Fly Trap has Waffles and may have Pancakes or French Toast as a special (although I've never seen one) they mostly do unique versions of omelettes and egg combinations. And their granola is too die for! My favorite omelette is the Yoko Ono with sweet potatoes and curry sauce but that may be too over the top for some. But I really dig the flavor combinations that they put together.

Aww. c'mon. You only live once. Live a little dangerously. ;)

Who recommended Frittata in Clawson, MI to me?

You are most welcome! Glad you had a great experience. I love that Detroit has such a nice variety of breakfast places. Hubby and I haven't been there in a while...we need to go back.

Have you been to The Fly Trap? That's another of our favorite's. :)

Heading to Dearborn....Annam or M & M cafe?

Our Indie film meet-up group is heading to Dearborn on the 23rd to see U2-3D at the Henry Ford IMAX theater. It also happens to be my birthday (WOOT!) Anyhow, we'd like to have dinner before the film and I was wondering if anyone would recommend one over the other. I saw one review of Annam but can't seem to find anything on M & M Cafe. I'd like to be able to let the group know what kind of food they serve and pricing, if possible. We most likely will be a group of 8-10.

Thanks a bunch!

Must eats in Troy, MI & vicinity (20 min.)

Toast is a good choice. One of my favorites and in the same general area is The Fly Trap. They do breakfast, lunch and dinner. My rec for Indian would be Rangoli in Auburn Hills. They have the BEST Indian buffet around in my opinion. If you are looking for a place in Royal Oak, Bastone or Andiamo's have been quite good.

Our overnight stay in Chicago

Thanks to all who replied...I will definitely check out Devon street the next time we are in Chicago/ Chicago area. There actually were a couple of recs on here for KP but no biggie. I will definitely hit you guys up for some suggestions the next time we are headed into town.

Our overnight stay in Chicago

My husband and I came in for a concert at the Metro Sunday and I wanted to just give a brief review of the places we visited while we were there.

We stayed at a fabulous B & B in Oak Park called The Harvey House. Wonderful, beautiful room, we stayed in the Golden Chest suite, which had an Asian influence. Free WI-FI, bottles of wine were free to bring up to our room (which we did) pantry and fridge were open to the house guests. We were given a sheet to fill in what time we wanted breakfast and were served hot coffee, fresh oj, warm sliced apples with a sweet roll type icing, cinnamon and nuts, eggs benny with red skin potatos. Absolutely YUMMMY! I would highly recomend them for anyone who would love a more homey atmosphere.

We ate lunch at Khyber Pass which was quite close to where we were staying. I will tell you in a word about Khyber Pass....AWFUL! We arrived at 2:30 for the buffet. Food was luke warm at best and items of for dessert were already gone and not replenished. The tandoori chicken, which they bring to your table, was flavorless and borderline gamey. The Naan bread, also brought to your table was warm but tasteless as well. Service was marginal. If this is the best Indian Chicago has to offer, I feel bad. I can only say that if anyone is in the Detroit area, please check out Rangoli in Auburn Hills. They will absolutely blow you away.

For dinner, which ended up being around 10:30 PM after the concert, we headed to Quartino. An Italian eatery which was beautfully decorated. The prices were very moderate with pizzas running 10-12 dollars and 1/4 carafe's of wine beginning at 4 dollars. The place was virtually empty, not surprising on a Sunday night. We ordered the Soprano pizza, which came out hot and crispy. It was good although the veggies seemed pickled which was not described on the menu. Service was acceptable, but one of the staff persons who we asked for a box for our leftovers, seemed less than happy to do so. We also were not offered a taste of a sample pizza that was being distributed among patrons in the restaurant.
I liked this place and would try it again to see if it was just a bit of an off night.

In our travels the following day, we happened upon a little coffee house called Blue Max. We each had a latte which were good but the milk could have been hotter. They did remake them for us and were very apologetic. We also decided to get lunch there. We split a cheese/chicken quesadilla which came with a nice helping of mixed greens with balsamic vinegarette and tortilla chips and housemade salsa. It was all good but not remarkable in any way. I did love the atmosphere of the place and there were lots of other items on the menu including a nice size breakfast menu that is served all day. We will definitely go back.

So while we I wouldn't say our food experiences in Chicago were a complete bust, they certainly didn't wow us. We hope for a little better experience next time.

Review of Chef's Cuisine in White Lake, MI

Hubby and I decided to check out a Chef's Cuisine on Friday. We love trying new places and after reading a short synopsis in Hour Detroit and checking out their website, we called and made a reservation.

Chef's Cuisine is about 40 minutes drive from our home but was so worth it. The ambience was warm and romantic. The building is a small ranch style home that has been converted to a small but wonderful eating spot.

Our server was patient with our questions with their extensive wine list and even brought a small sample for us to try before our purchase. We wanted to take our time with dinner, as this was our first dinner together since becoming married. Our server spaced our food perfectly. Both dinner entrees came with our choice of soup or salad. I chose the Tuscan bean soup which was a wonderful brothy soup with beans and veggies with a nice blend of spice to compliment the flavor. Hubby chose the salad with their house dressing, creamy dijon which was also quite good. Hubby chose the Ancho Chile Honey Glazed Salmon with
Pecan Butter, Corn Cake, Butternut Squash. It was fantastic with no fishy taste that often accompanies fish dishes. I opted for the Portabella Mushroom & Eggplant Lasagna. It was
layered with tomato sauce, basil pesto, parmesan and fresh mozzarella. It too was absolutely scrumptious. Both entrees came with a side of sauteed veggies that were done to perfection.

To complete our evening we decided to split a Banana's Foster Napolean, cinnamon ice cream topped with a cream puff pastry and warm caramel rum sauce and coffee. We were not disappointed and found the serving size perfect to share.

I woould highly reccommend Chef's Cuisine. Hubby and I have dubbed "our special place" and plan on taking family back there near the holiday's.

Looking for NY Style pizza in Cleveland

My fiance and I are getting married in Cleveland in September. He is originally from New York and we are trying to plan our rehearsal dinner. We are on a pretty tight budget (paying for the wedding ourselves) but thought it might be in our budget to do pizza and beer.

Since we live in Michigan we thought perhaps some Cleveland Chowhounds could point us in the right direction. We sure would appreciate any reccomendations anyone might have.

TIA

new to mi, troy and surrounding area

If you like indian, you must try Rangoli! They have a fabulous lunch buffet M-Sat. It's in a little plaza on Auburn Rd in Rochester. Nice atmosphere inside and very friendly staff.

My fiancee and I love to try new places. Here are some of our favorites:

The Fly Trap-on Woodward in ferndale...very small diner type place. Great music (past three times we were there we heard The Jam, The Specials and Joe Strummer) Hip interior and the menu is pretty eclectic. They serve breakfast all day now and always have 3 specials two of which rotate. My personal favorite is the Yoko Ono-- an omelette made with sweet potatoes and curry sauce. Other menu favorites are the B.L.A.T sandwich (bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato) and the pho bowl which you can get with chicken or tofu.

Toast: Another breakfast lunch place. Also on Woodward in Ferndale. Generous size breakfast dishes. Some of which are sweet enough to be dessert but we won't go there ;)
Get there early as is there is almost always a wait.

Frittatas: in Clawson on Main St. Cozy breakfast and lunch spot. Loved the ambiance...and the food was excellent.

Cafe Habana: behind Bastone's in downtown Royal Oak. Nice little cuban place. Love their carne asada. Can't vouch for their breakfast but they are open on Sat and Sunday mornings.

Muse: Washington Ave, Downtown Royal Oak lovely little breakfast/lunch spot. Eclectic menu items that were very tasty.

Crust: Pizza spot in Rochester and also in Bloomfield. Only eaten at the Rochester location. Bloomfield was absolutely packed on a Saturday night. Great thin crust pizza. Decent sangria. their little desserts are perfect to hit your sweet tooth afterwards.

Sangrias: Spanish food. Awesome white sangria. love their tapas menu. havent tried their paella but it looks absolutely scrumptious.

Redcoat Tavern: The best burgers EVAH! Nuff said. On Woodward in Royal Oak. They are usually lined up out the door.

Anita's Kitchen: on 15 mile at Livernois in Troy. Love their super falafel.

As I think of others I will post.

Best ribs in Detroit area

Another great place for ribs is Lucy's in Grosse Pointe. It's served with their mac & cheese which is also quite yummy.
