Updated list- pre fixe and other deals?
Hi all-
We're heading to Vegas next month, and I was looking for good deals- early birds, pre-show specials, etc.
I've been to Charlie Palmer for the Cut of the Week, which was a great deal.
http://www.charliepalmer.com/Properties/CPSteak/LasVegas/Menu/?MenuId=289
I also know that the restaurants at Aria all have Early Evening Dinners. http://www.arialasvegas.com/dining/dining-specials.aspx
Has anyone had experience with any of those?
What are the other noteworthy specials going on now?
Thanks!
Sushi deals or sushi happy hours in Midtown/Dowtown Sacaramento?
I noticed a decent happy hour menu at Mikuni today at lunch (I'm at the convention center all week). Hand rolls for $3 or $4. I like their sushi, but it's definitely on the americanized, "place to be seen" side of the sushi spectrum. :)

Medical treatment at UC Davis next week - any good restaurants nearby?
I strongly second this! I've lived in Davis and Woodland for the last 11 years, and I think Tazzina Bistro is the real standout. It's only about a 10 minute drive north on the 113- totally worth the detour. Great sandwiches and salads on the lunch menu, as well as an amazing quiche.
Hope your puppy is doing better soon!

Woodland eats? Mexican or otherwise ...
Honestly I haven't ventured out much to anywhere new lately. Love the pupuseria for both Mexican food and the pupusas. The taco truck right at 113 and Main is worth trying- I;ve only been there once, but it was really tasty.
I'll try to venture out soon so I have something new to report :)
Restaurants at Cache Creek casino?
Did a search for restaurants at Cache Creek casino and came across this thread. Heading here in a few weeks to play some blackjack. Any input or comments from the last 4 years? Thanks!
Any good local dining in Yuba City?
I haven't tried it yet, but some friends raved about a place called Cilantro's. Here's a link to the yelp page for it... looks promising

Breakfast in Woodland
According to a questionably reliable city information site, it opens at 8. My memory was 7. If I get a chance, I'll drive by tomorrow and check for you (it's about 2 blocks from where I work). :)
Breakfast in Woodland
For a great Mexican (slash Salvadorian(?)) breakfast, I really like Pupuseria La Chicana at West and Main. I've had the machaca plate and the breakfast burrito. Really tasty food- perfectly fried potatoes, awesome beans (I'm positive they are not vegetarian :) ), nice portions. Very reasonable prices and really nice people.
For American fare, I love the pancakes at Savory Cafe, right on main street. They are huge, fluffy and really tasty. Other items are good too, but that's the stand out for me.
Let us know what you think if you end up trying either of them.
Vegas- Restaurant at or near Imperial Palace with baby?
We are going to Vegas to surprise my father-in-law for his 60th birthday. My husband and I are foodies, while my in-laws are meat and potatoes kind of folks. We will also have our 11 month old with us (a very well behaved one, but still a baby). Ideas for dinner for a group of 8 in the moderate $ category ($30-$40ish per person)?
TIA!
ETA: We're staying at the IP and would prefer not to drive anywhere, but a reasonable walk or tram ride is fine.
Top 3 dishes at New Canton Sacramento?
We were there about a week ago and had the whole roasted duck special (only $13). It was amazingly moist and had great flavor. It's a LOT of food, but it made great leftovers!
Winters - Putah Creek Cafe
I second that! Have only had breakfasts- great omelets, cinnamon rolls, generous fresh fruit plates. Really good, but expect a wait on weekends.
Big Bear - Lake Arrowhead - moved from California board
Sorry- this may be too late for you, but there's a little place in Big Bear called Sweet Basil Bistro that was really good when I ate there in August. It's in the little strip mall under the bowling barn (yes, I'm serious). Small place, interesting menu- I had a fantastic sandwich for lunch. Best meal I've had in Big Bear!
San Diego Wedding Resources and Reviews
When I was getting married in SD about 3 years ago, I was on the discussion boards on bridalinsider.com a lot- it was a huge help!
FWIW, I used Simply Unforgettable catering for my wedding. Food was basic but really tasty and very reasonably priced. Rehearsal dinner was at a friend's clubhouse and we picked up JV's Mexican (my fav!)- everyone (especially the out of towners) loved it!
Woodland lunch?
Yay! Glad you liked it. It's our absolute favorite (although we do "cheat" on them and hit some of the mexican dives in town as well)
Bay Area-quality dim sum in Sacramento at Asian Pearl 2009
Steve- how do you think it compares to New Canton? TIA!
Review: Market (Del Mar, CA)
daantaat- The peaches and cream was amazing- who would have ever thought that deep fried vanilla pudding could be so good (although I am sure some would find it over the top, my husband is still talking about it...)
Rec in Big Bear- Sweet Basil Bistro
I know there are regularly posts asking about Big Bear with few responses. My in-laws live there, and I finally have a restaurant to post about. This weekend we were visiting and went to Sweet Basil Bistro for lunch. It's a small, unassuming place directly under the bowling barn. We went for sandwiches- I had a great french dip with Gruyere and sauteed onions. My husband had an Italian Sausage sandwich with tomato sauce and cheese. Both were fantastic!
Had an interesting cocktail menu and wine list, as well. Looking forward to trying it next time we're in town for dinner.

Spudnuts in Sacramento!
Funny... there is one in Woodland a few blocks away, and I have never been there. Might need to try it.
Chinese in Davis?
This may be too late to help you. I don't think there is a stand-out Chinese in town. My favorite is Hunan on 2nd street. It is tasty but very Americanized- not really chowhoundish.
solo in Sacramento
Unfortunately, I think you are mostly looking at chains that late. In Natomas (the area of Sacramento just south of the airport) there is a BJ's Brewery- pretty decent food (pizzas, salads, sandwiches). Open until midnight Sunday-Thursday and 1am Friday-Saturday.

On weather- it's been really pleasant this week- hopefully it will stay that way. At least everywhere in Sacramento has air conditioning.
Woodland eats? Mexican or otherwise ...
Okay.. we have TONS of Mexican restaurants in town. I have lived here for 3 years and have barely scratched the surface...
Vince's is a family-owned restaurant (sit-down, as opposed to a taqueria) with good food. I especially like their Carne Asada.
Guadalarja is very popular- there are also 2 in Davis. Not my favorite, and I think it is a little expensive for what you get, but many people swear by it.
I LOVE pupuseria la chicana. It is not quick, so plan for a bit of a wait for food. It is in an old Taco Bell Building (you'll know it by the shape). Enjoy the chips with beans while you wait. I like the pupusas and the rolled tacos (not super authentic, but really tasty :) )
I also really like El Patio (drive thru with some patio seating) .I grew up in San Diego, so my personal preference tends towards "San Diego" style... burritos without beans or rice. Favorite there is the carnitas torta.
For non-Mexican, Tazzina Bistro is the hands-down favorite.
Easter Brunch in Davis?
In Davis, there is Bistro 33 (which IMO is highly overrated). Less upscale but with better food are Caffe Italia and Cafe Bernardo.
Personally, I'd drive 10 minutes and go to Tazzina Bistro in Woodland. Here's their menu:

Las Vegas Ice Cream or Gelato
There is a good gelato place inside the Bellagio... down the side near the art museum and the atrium.
Breakfast in Ontario?
Not too far away in Historic Downtown Upland is a great little place called Molly's Souper. It's an old farmhouse that has been converted to a restaurant. They have a fantastic baked french toast (with raspberries when we were there). Cute place and great food.

Thanksgiving in Sacramento
I saw that Tazzina Bistro up here in Woodland is have a prix fixe 3 course Thanksgiving with a lot a choices (including the traditionals) for $30 per person. Food is always wonderful, and it's a great deal!

Reports on The Kitchen, Sacramento (Not the new Chinese place)?
Sister in law said it was the best meal she had ever had. We're going in October. I'll post details afterward....
Your top ten favorite Sacramento dining places
Okay... so I've lived in the Davis and Woodland areas for the last 10 years, so my list is very Yolo County biased.
Favorite overall- Tazzina Bistro. Consistently great food, interesting menu featuring local produce, fantastic service. Favorites are the Kobe Burger and the Mustard Crusted Chicken... and the quiche, and the risotto... seriously, everything is really wonderful.
Favorite Mexican (tie)- Pupeseria La Chicana. Technically El Salvadorian and Mexican Hole-in-the-wall on Main Street in Woodland, in a building that used to be a Taco Bell. Definitely greasy, but really tasty. Great bean and chesse pupusas
El Patio- Drive through "So Cal" Mexican (burritos are meat and guac/pico only- no rice or beans). Growing up in San Diego, this is the closest thing to the 'betos Taco Shops in Yolo County. Standouts are the tortas and the carnitas.
Greek- Symposium- Wonderful gyros and fantastic pizza. Definitely try the Taramosalata (look for something close to that on the appetizer menu :) ) to start.
Indian- Kathmandu Kitchen Try the Chicken Makhani with an extra order of naan.
Breakfast- Tazzina Bistro, Main Street Cafe in Winters
Steakhouse- The Buckhorn in Winters
Dim Sum- New Canton in Sacramento
Chinese- Eastern Empire (near Sac State)
Okay, I know it is Americanized, but they have a cooked-to-order buffet with fantastic Honey Walnut Shrimp. For $15 or so, you get all you want. Have some great appetizers as well- try the spicy won tons.
Pizza- Symposium (see above), Woodstocks (hey, I went to UCD) and Zelda's for deep dish

Good eats in Del Mar?
I totally agree. We ate there last weekend for a birthday party, and it was absolutely amazing. Best restaurant I've eaten at in SD!
