Wine pairings at George?
Thank you, Coco - that sounds like excellent advice! We may in the end seek advice on wines but not go for the official wine pairing package.
Wine pairings at George?
My SO and I will be going to George for our first time on Saturday, likely ordering the vegetarian tasting menu. What would Chowhounders advise concerning the wine pairing option? We are both fans of many levels of wine, and are generally interested by what a good sommelier will pair with food, but we are also happy to pick our own choices from a good wine menu and could probably do quite well for $80.
Any suggestions on whether to opt for the wine pairings?
Thanks.
Patisserie La Cigogne opening on Danforth?
They now are selling ice cream, made in-house. I didn't have a chance to try it, but it looks beautiful and comes in about a dozen flavours including chocolate, vanilla, pistacio, hazelnut, pineapple, banana, raspberry, and lemon.
Townships and Laurentians
Wow - super suggestions! Many thanks! The cheeses and ice creams sound deelish.
We do eat eggs (and dairy, as is probably obvious from my enthusiasm for cheese and ice cream), but not fish. Adults have passports, but not the wee one.
Townships and Laurentians
Thanks, everyone, for your thoughtful suggestions! I am aware of the general meatiness of Quebec food, and am used to eating a salad and the single vegetarian pasta option in restaurants serving French Quebec fare.
Townships and Laurentians
Greetings Quebec Hounds!
I am seeking recommendations for places to eat in the Townships (we'll be staying in Orford but willing to travel around, and I'm especially keen to eat what the monks at St-Benoit-du-Lac are producing), and the Laurentians (we'll be staying not far from Namur, but again willing to travel). We are a family of three - 2 adults, one child of four - and we are vegetarian.
Merci from an Ontario Hound.
Chiado question
Yep - this is the deal I got. Now it's included with the gift card and (very classy) cover letter for my folks!
Port Dalhousie...is Treadwell's unsuitable for a small child?
I went there last fall for dinner with a three-year-old, and the experience was very positive. We called ahead, they seated us at a table near a little lounge area in the front section (so that the little one could run around a bit without disturbing the other diners), and they provided her with a "young adults menu". She chose the toast wtih nine-year-old cheddar and absolutely loved it; we were all impressed that the cheese was three times older than she was!
Chiado question
Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions - I knew the wise Chowhounders would share valuable expertise! I shall get my parents a substantial gift certificate and recommend to them the seafood and Portuguese wines.
Chiado question
I am going to buy a nice meal for my parents (via gift certificate). They love Portuguese food and are definitely chowhoundish, and so my first thought was Chiado. But they aren't fond of restaurants that are very 'fancy': they tend to prefer the little, out-of-the-way, family-run places, and become suspicious or impatient with very expensive food, small portions, obsequious service, overly hip atmostphere. So I'm seeking advice from those who have eaten at Chiado, which I haven't since their menu looks too meaty and seafoody for my vegetarian self. Is Chiado too fancy for my down-to-earth parents? Or will the food win them over?

JKWB-Janie Kennedy Wine Bar-Anyone Go Recently?
I went last week, and it was a delicious experience. I can't comment on whether it's changed, since this was my first visit, but I certainly hope to be back. Two things deserving of special mention: One, our waiter and the kitchen staff went out of their way to make sure that the vegetarian-looking items on the menu really were vegetarian and then to suggest extra items not on the menu if we wanted more selection (and we didn't ask them to do this, just mentioned that we were interested in sampling the vegetarian options), and two, JK himself brought us our frites with an elegant little French announcement, "les frites arrivent".
Fine Dining Recommendations
Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar: fresh, local, unusual atmosphere.

Caribbean Roti Palace on Bathurst just south of Bloor has excellent doubles.
Seven Numbers - Bad Experience
My SO and I were recently ignored then scowled at there after having enjoyed it several times in the past. It was during Winterlicious (which we had forgotten about when deciding to go there), but the rudeness was very off-putting.
March Break Lunch Quest - under $10, awesome soup or salad
The Armenian Kitchen on Vic Park north of Lawrence has delicious lentil soup and tabouli salad, in addition to good dips.

You could also try By the Way Cafe. They have standard breakfast fare, along with some twists. And Aroma has the all-day breakfast, which is delicious.
Favorite Toronto Restaurants?
Hmmm...in that case, I'm not sure Toronto has much unusual to offer. Except perhaps the price?
Favorite Toronto Restaurants?
What region are you coming FROM? I ask because Toronto has many kinds of ethnic cuisine that are well represented, and if you cannot get one of these on your home turf then it's worth checking out while you're here. People on this board can recommend really good examples of places to try food representative of Chinese (especially Hong Kong), Ethiopian, Portuguese, and Polish to give some examples. In fact, if I were to say anything were 'quintessentially Toronto' about the food, it woudl be the tremendous diversity.
Vegan Breakfast/Brunch Spots
You know, I think if was Pulp Kitchen that I meant to say in the first place. Thanks, ChalkBoy!
Vegan Breakfast/Brunch Spots
Also consider Cafe Vert, Queen East at Carlaw. They are vegan, and they do brunch.

Your favourite Kozlik's mustard?
I'm especially fond of the balsamic-fig-dates, and the dill.
vegetarian chinese restaurant suggestions
If you're open to vegetarian Thai, Jean's Vegetarian Kitchen on Danforth just east of Greenwood has excellent food and friendly service.
Kawartha Dairy egg nog
Harmony Organic is creamy, not too sweet, and not very yellow. We got ours in our Mama Earth delivery; I'm not sure where it's available in stores.
Niche on Danforth Back?
I heard a rumour that the Three's Company people are running it. Looking forward to your report!
Coffee at Danforth / Coxwell?
Yes, they still have the play area, the baked goods from Dufflet, and the assorted coffees and teas.
Pazzo in Stratford
And, though it's hard to tell from their website, I think they're closed in the winter.
Pazzo in Stratford
My spouse and I will be heading to Stratford in a couple of weeks for a concert and a stay at a very nice looking inn. Based on recommendations from this board, we are planning on going to Pazzo for dinner after the concert. I was going to ask whether the ristorante or the pizzaria was a better destination, but now I notice that the ristorante is closed for the season. So, does anyone have any recommendations for vegetarian options at the Pazzo pizzaria?
Thanks.
How best to enjoy fruitcake?
Just as is and at room temperature, or with some heated custard poured on. I've ordered a Trappist fruitcake this year, and am looking forward to its advent!
