As a New Yorker, I'd actually still suggest Mozza, it's really in line with the places the OP mentioned as far as vibe. Also the have some good things aside from pizza, and their pizza it definitely a different spin than typical NY pies.
Also, I'd suggest a place like Father's Office. Sort of makes me think of Momofuku in vibe...
Is there a restaurant like Alinea or Moto in NYC?
While not exactly "experimental" like Alinea or even WD-50, Momofuku Ko seems to definitely tries to push boundaries (frozed shaved fois gras w lychee brittle, oysters w/ kimchee broth etc).
And the bonus would be that if you were visiting from Chicago, you couldn't pull off a better coup these days than scoring a resy for this place.

For Curry I like Go Go Curry, that bizarre place with the gorilla mascot.

Thanks all. I'll defnitely bank these suggestion for the next visit. Ended up at RL with a group of 10. thought it was good but definitely not cheap... Thought it would be stuffier, but that place is actually kind of on the loud side.

Coming to Charlotte from Manhattan. I've been there a few times but haven't gotten a lot of exposure to a lot of places. Would love some help for a few places for dinner, here's the criteria:
Not Fine Dining: Not looking for upscale white table cloth dining. Nothing against it, but not looking to get a good meal by paying $100 a head.
Not a Dive: I love the dives. Really do. As a matter of fact that probably makes the most of what I've eaten in Charlotte, so I need a change of pace.
Not a Chain: Kind of goes without saying, but no need to suggest Cheesecake Factory or Applebee's. Nothing against them, just would like something different.
Not trying to be negative, I like pretty much all places, just looking for a specific vibe. Relaxed, fun, casual dining, but not in a sports bar or diner. Atmosphere a plus.
This sounds kind of restrictive, but I'm really just looking for great suggestions...and welcome your thoughts.

I recently was in Montreal for a business trip and ate at a place called Globe. It seemed like a half-decent, but actually really expensive place. What was weird was the waitresses (and they were all waitresses) were all about 20 years old and they all dressed like the hostess at a strip club. They were nice and all but completely clueless and really inappropriate for a place where you're going to drop $100+ a person.
No offence to our friends up north, but is this some weird Canadian thing or was that place as ridiculous to you as it was to me?

Yep, Freeman's has some kind of odd hunting lodge decor going for it. But I like it for it's intimate space, lively atmosphere (as opposed to "sceney"). Orinoco sounds nice. Any other spots?

Yes. I just like lively neighborhood places (not sceney, not house music pumping loud). A place where you can have fun but it's not obnoxious. I know this is all subjective, but I think most of you know what I'm talking about.

Hi, only went once so maybe it was an off night. Salad wasn't that fresh, food was over salty. Liked the vibe, although maybe a little on the big side. Late meaning a 9pm or 10 pm meal. Where they aren't mopping the floor when you're having an after dinner drink (exaggeration, but you know what I mean).

Coming from NY, these posts for Boston did not fail. Over one weekend, we hit many of the Boston chowhound choices. Eastern Standard (acceptable), Aquitaine (excellent) Regina's in the North End (excellent) and Deluxe (?) (good).
Looking for comfortable mid priced late dinner. For those who are familiar with NY, basically we're looking for a Blue Ribbon, Momofuku Ssam, Freeman's, Five Points, hell I guess even a Schiller's type place if the vibe is good. any kind of food, it's the quality and vibe that's important. Not divey (I like dives btw, just not the occasion for it), not meat-packing annoying, not touristy antiseptic. Places where we get a good lively neighborhood vibe with some good food. We're all in our mid-thirties designers living in the East Village and Lower East Side.
By the way, sorry for the NY references, but I don't know Boston that well and from past posts a lot of people from Boston know NY well enough to know what I mean.

Breakfast LES maybe not Katzs
Five points has a smart Danny Meyer hospitality kind of vibe about it whereas they could easily take a worse attitude about things (especially at hangover brunch). Call in before you go and Five Points brunch is great.
We want a great restaurant, can get into Babbo, any suggestions?
I've always enjoyed Lever House's food and if you're at all an architectural crowd, the Marc Newsome interior in the SOM knock off of Mies is pretty nice.

Schiller's is nice for an LES pastis type of thing. I like Five Points too. Prune's a nice choice also.

Cafecito is good for mellow close by. Not really like Schillers. Freeman's is a slam dunk but no ressies so be prepared to wait. BArmarche in Nolita is not bad. I always like Five Ponits which is like EV's Union Square Cafe.

10 Degrees between 1st and A on 7th st. It's a more adult choice in the midst of kid bars. Angel's Share is always nice. Also Bar Veloce is nice.
