lox in too warm fridge? trash or eat?
Hi,
I purchased several packages of lox on Thursday at Costco to serve at a brunch on Sunday. We have a brand new fridge in our garage. Yesterday when I opened the fridge it felt cold however it smelled faintly of fish, so I turned it colder. Now it smells fine. So the question is, should I trash the lox and buy more, or is it ok to serve? I'm really not sure what to do here and want to err on the side of caution.
Thanks!
Osteria and Enoteca Bibiana -- bday dinner report
My husband and I went to Bibiana last night to celebrate our anniversary. I completely agree with FoodFiend. The food was quintessential italian, every dish we had was crafted with a simple preparation and had subtle flavors and a heavenly taste.
We visited Bibiana on a Wednesday night. While the place was full, it was a mix of business men and tourists. The crowd didn't hurt the atmosphere, but it was something that I did notice upon arrival. Of course it was a weeknight. I am sure on a Friday or Saturday night there is a younger mix of patrons.
Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the food. His recommendations were spot on and he knew the menu inside and out, as if he created it himself.
We started with the Fried Squash Blossoms, Crostini Di Pollo, and black figs stuffed with cheese. We knew we were going to have an incredible evening based on the appetizers alone. The figs were outstanding, slightly sweet, complemented by the cheese and topped with shaved almonds and a drizzle of balsamic (i think).
We then had half portions of the bucatini and the risotto with green apple. The risotto was out of this world. Food Fiend nailed the description, it was absolutely perfect. And while sometimes risotto can be overly rich and heavy, this risotto had the perfect balance of creamy rich texture without being overpowering.
My husband then had the duck and I had the branzino. The fish was presented to me table side and then taken away to be filleted. I was served a beautiful plate of soft white fish with an incredibly subtle yet flavorful drizzle of sauce.
We also shared the chocolate bomba for dessert and enjoyed it immensely. The wine list was superb.
Bottom line, we can't wait to return!

Spinach Lasagna Noodles?
I can't imagine making a lasagna without spinach lasagna noodles. They are the best. I just finished my last box, and have not been able to find them locally for the longest time. I am turning to you wonderful folks to help. I am in Gaithersburg, so anywhere in Montgomery County, D.C., or No. Va. would be great. I am up in Bmore sometimes too. Thanks!
dinner tonight.... quick ideas?
When I called around noon they said they were completely booked for tonight. We could always try to just walk in and wait, but I'd rather just go another night. PS7 looks good, but I want more rustic food... we're just going to head over to Dino, always delicious....
dinner tonight.... quick ideas?
I should also probably add that we have dietary restrictions, so wherever we eat has to have lots of veggie options.
dinner tonight.... quick ideas?
Founding Farmers only has a table at 5pm, which is unfortunately way too early on a weeknight. Dino is great, but I'd love to try something new tonight. I'll look into your suggestions and let you know what I decide.
dinner tonight.... quick ideas?
Hi,
I'm looking for a place to grab dinner tonight and am fresh out of ideas. We love Dino and I'm dying to try Founding Farmers but can never get in on such short notice. Suggestions for something similar? Not too expensive, not too ethnic. Just something fun with fresh and flavorful food for a Thursday night. Anywhere downtown that is metro-able or Georgetown is great. Thanks so much!
Passover eats in the Baltimore area?
The Knish Shop Kosher Deli 508 Reisterstown Rd in Pikesville, is the old standard. Not exactly gourmet, but standard kosher yom tov fare. Call asap as I think you have to place your order in advance.
Matzoh Pizza at Vince and Dominics
Does anyone know the actual ingredients of the crust? Do they exclusively use matzoh meal? Thanks!
Opinions wanted! Places to go in Rockville
Fontina Grill in King Farm is one of my favorites, great rockfish, ravioli, never had a bad dish. Nice to sit outside in the summer.
Neal's bagel's in Gaithersburg has the best bagels. (but not as good as bethesda bagels)
I hate hate hate diner food, but the Star Diner in the Kentlands is fantastic. The food is phenomenal, great atmosphere too. Sweet potato fries are yummy.
Vasilis in the Kentlands, wonderful Mediterranean food
Quest for Mac n cheese
I second Rock Bottom. I also get it without the chicken, and it's fantastic. Just a hint of spice.
Wholefoods mac and cheese is fantastic as well.
Bethesda - Centro Chef changeup
Does anyone know where Centro's Chef, Liam LaCivita, has moved to?
We went to Centro for New Year's dinner only to find a new menu which was not nearly as appealing as their regular fare. We were informed that their chef had taken a new position and they had brought someone new in over the past month.
Our dinner was ok, but nothing to write home about. Oh, how I miss their divine gnocchi. So sad.....
