Affordable food itinerary, focusing on the south?

Hi there -- I'm planning a trip to Spain and Morocco for this August. I'm starting in Madrid and plan to make my way south, with a heavy focus on food. But my budget is not huge (35 euros a day on food?). Thoughts on what cities to hit?

Thank you!

Leftover honey ham

Hi -- I have several pounds of leftover ham in the fridge. Thoughts on how to use it? I made a pasta dish last night with ham, peas, and bechamel. I thought of the Cooks Illustrated Fish Chowder. Other thoughts?

Place to buy oysters (fish market?) between DC and Philly

Any thoughts on a place to buy oysters between DC and philly? I don't need especially fresh ones (shucked in a tub is fine), just want to fry up a po' boy this week and will be traveling this weekend....

Anywhere in DC proper to get kosher brisket?

Any ideas? I've tried Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Safeway.... no dice. Can't drive to VA/MD unfortunately.

Favorite Bittman recipes

Thanks! The anchovy pasta is a column. I actually love his tofu "pudding," too.

Favorite Bittman recipes

Anyone got any favorite Bittman recipes? I like his anchovy + cherry tomatoes pasta, gorgonzola + arugula pasta, pasta with fried eggs, pasta with sardines, chili shrimp, slow cooked scrambled eggs, swordfish with pimenton, chicken with creamed corn, cornmeal pancakes...

Favorite easy pasta dish?

Just made a version of this last night. Terrific! I didn't use the ham and I traded white wine for the broth.

Fresh bread crumbs -- storage?

Would they get (overly) stall or moldy after more than a week?

Fresh bread crumbs -- storage?

I'm always seeing fresh bread crumbs in recipes, but I'm reluctant to haul out the food processor just for a garnish. It occurs to me that, for all I know, fresh bread crumbs may take perfectly well to the fridge or freezer, so that I could make a batch and just leave them in one or the other. Thoughts on whether this would work?

Favorite easy pasta dish?

Well, I love anchovies, sardines and the like, so maybe not the person to ask -- but I think it tastes more salty and umami than fishy. Recipe is: http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2010/01...

I prefer to roast the cauliflower separately and then mix it in...

Favorite easy pasta dish?

My absolute favorite pasta dishes are:Pasta with Cauliflower and Anchovies (Amateur Gourmet), Spaghetti Carbonara, and Pasta with Sausage and Broccolli Rabe. All are easy, rich, salty, delicious.

I also like AG's pasta with Sundried Tomatoes and Beans; Bittman's Sardine pasta; Pasta alla Amatracini; Pasta with Fennel and Bacon; Bittman's Anchovies and Cherry Tomatoes; Bittman's pasta with eggs.

Any other favorites?

Cheap, easy, really good dessert to bring to a dinner party -- does it exist?

I'm looking for a signature dessert -- something to bring to dinner parties that is really good. The catch: it has to be (reasonably) cheap and easy. Any ideas?

Decent pizza delivery in Dupont/Logan Circle?

Thanks very much. I will try Steam Cafe. ZPizza is unfortunately too far for delivery but I will try it sometime too.

Decent pizza delivery in Dupont/Logan Circle?

I actually disagree with this -- Pete's is good even for delivery. Although you are right that it is quite expensive (for pizza).

Non-Canned Sardines in DC?

Hi there -- I just watched the Mark Bittman video on broiling fresh sardines and would love to cook them, but am unfamiliar with buying them fresh (i.e. not in cans). Any ideas? Whole Foods? Giant? Harris Teeter?

Decent pizza delivery in Dupont/Logan Circle?

Hi there -- I'm from New Haven and just moved to Dupont/Logan Circle in DC. Is there anywhere, anywhere at all that has decent pizza to deliver to me? I'm just out of the range of Pete's.

HELP! Need advice for New Haven lunch on Monday

Not to worry, New Haven's a great food town. The best option is probably to head to the Yale Medical School campus and eat at the food carts... Unbelievable variety (20+ trucks, everything from sushi to fancy salads to pho). York Street and Cedar Street, 5 minutes from the train station. For fancier, try Barcelona or Bespoke restaurants. Good thai at Bangkok Gardens....

Very cheap but decent sushi in DC?

Anyone know of a very cheap but decent sushi restaurant in DC? Preferably near Dupont/Logan/U Street. Just acceptable fish would be fine with me if it's cheap enough, so long as the sushi is made to order (not sitting around)... Wok n roll in Chinatown is one option but I'm wondering if there's more.

Thanks!

Crabs between DC/Philly?

Hi everyone, I'm driving between Philly and DC and am looking for a good place to have crabs along the way. Preferably as close to the highway as possible so we don't have to take a detour. Nothing fancy, just the standard old bay / steamed would be great. Thanks!

Crabs btwn Midtwn e. and UWS

Hi there -- I'm trying to buy live blue crabs (not soft shells)... I know I can get them down in Chinatown, but I work in Midtown East (in the 50s) and live on the UWS (Morningside Heights), and was wondering if anyone knew of a place that sells them in either neighborhood or somewhere in between. Thanks.
