Kitchenaid mixer attachments in New York

Thank you for your great suggestions! It seems like there are a lot of options. Broadway Panhandler did not have any in stock, but I got one at Sur le Table. But the same problem that happened with the original beater happened (would not come off after first use, and once pried off, would not fit back on), so now I am looking for a service center I can get to without a car!!
Thanks again, and happy holidays!

Kitchenaid mixer attachments in New York

HI there,
My kitchenaid mixer needs a new beater attachment for the holidays, and I was hoping to buy it in a shop rather than online since it would be faster. I asked at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and was told they only sell it online. If you know of a place I can get one in the city, please let me know. Thank you!!

Kinder softy in NYC?

I just got back from Paris where I found a new Kinder brand product I love...Kinder Softy. Chocolate egg filled with crispy cookie and creamy chocolate-hazelnut filling! Does anyone know where I can get these in the city? Thanks so much - they are so different from the fancy French chocolates, but I love them just as much!!

Drinks in Financial District

Looking for a low key place to chat with a friend over a drink after work in the Financial District. The closer to Bowling Green, the better.
Thanks!

Are there any authentic French patisseries in the city?

Dousoeur de Paris is a new place I have not tried but would like to. It has good reviews on Yelp, Serious Eats, and the NY Times. Has anyone tried it yet?

Looking for intimate restaurant for SO's birthday dinner this weekend

Hi Kathryn,
Just wanted to say your Craft recommendation was excellent. We were seated at a nice, quiet corner table at the back of the restaurant and left all decisions up the chef by ordering the tasting menu and the wine pairings. Everything was flavored well and did not overpower the taste of the main ingredient. It was fun to taste so many different drinks in one sitting. I particularly liked the scallops with artichokes, but everything was amazing. The music was good in general but on occasion was a little loud and rock-n-roll-y, but overall it was a lovely evening that both of us enjoyed immensely. Thank you for the recommendation! Expensive but well worth it.

Locally made turtles?

It may be a little too late, but I absolutely love the turtles from Lilac Chocolates...in Village and Grand Central.

where to find chocolate covered marshmallows

Li-Lac has super light and fluffy chocolate covered marshamallows in both milk and dark. You can get them in the West Village or at Grand Central Delish!!

Looking for intimate restaurant for SO's birthday dinner this weekend

We are going to try Craft. Thanks for the recommendations; I will report back!

Looking for intimate restaurant for SO's birthday dinner this weekend

My SO and I took each other to Fleur de Sel on each of our birthdays last year, and I am looking for another restaurant that is intimate and has delicious cuisine that you can linger over. French, Japanese, American, Italian would all be great. Pretty much anything but non-Japanese Asian cuisines suit him. As for neighbourhoods, we live in the Union Square area, so something within walking distance would be ideal, but we travel. Looking to spend up to $500 everything included. Thank you!!

place to taste olive oil before buying?

Yes, they do. Three dollars off if you bring your own bottle.

Good bulk organic coffee sources?

Thanks...Oren's is where I checked first, but there were no organic coffees at all. I will check Porto Rico.

Good bulk organic coffee sources?

Anyone have a favorite place to buy organic coffee by the pound? Thanks!

Need Suggestions for BYOB Indian & Sake Bar

It's called Sakagura.

Good Hamentaschen?

I like the ones at the cheesecake shop on 8th ave btw 31-2nd. Name escapes me at the moment. No chocolate though. Also for the Purim season Silver Moon Bakery at Bway and 105th has them.

Irish Soda Bread

They have some rolls and two types of loaves at Silver Moon Bakery on Bway at 105th, but it is only for the St. Patrick's day season. Also have hamentaschen for Purim - good but pricey at $3.75!

Kee's Chocolate--favorite flavors?

Yuzu, when in season, is also excellent! Lavender, green tea, passionfruit, and balsamic are also favorites.

Online Sources for Japanese Tea [Split from Manhattan board]

[Split from http://www.chowhound.com/topics/345793]

Would you please post some links to places to order tea online (if it is not against the posting rules)? Thanks!

Lunch near the MoMa?

Went there on Wednesday night, and it is no longer in business.

Dobin mushi (?) ...

Hasaki in the EV also had dobin mushi and some great mushroom dishes when I went a couple of weeks ago.

Whole fish at Menkui Tei. Really - whole fish. [moved from Manhattan board]

In Japan smaller fish are sometimes grilled with their innards in place, but even there, it is mostly "gourmets" who enjoy them most.

Need Help with Chocolate.

Westside Market also has some interesting flavours once in a while...look near the check out.

Lovescool new Bakery Amai- Yum!!!

I was excited to have a new tea place in the neighborhood, but although the staff was very friendly and the place is nice and low key, I was not very impressed with the maccha items I had: prize winning maccha cookies and maccha scone with maccha butter. The cookies were nice cookies but the maccha seemed only have lent color and no flavor to them. The scone was not maccha flavoured either but there was something wrong with it in addition. I could not finish it. The tea I had was OK, not great. I hope that these flavour issues will be worked out; in the meantime I will head to Cha-An for my maccha kick...their macaroons are great.

Mochi Ice Cream

Whole Foods has Bubbies (shop in Honolulu) mochi ice cream. It is pricey but excellent. BTW the green tea mochi ice cream from Trader Joe's is artificially flavoured; I could not even finish one.

We love Sushi Jun -- W 50th (longish)

I went to Sushi Jun last night with great expectations, but I was disappointed. I got the $35 omakase and the fish was subpar and tasteless. There was a non-Japanese young man preparing the sushi and an older man who did the side dishes and my dining partner's teriyaki beef. A sushi restaurant should only serve sushi in my opinion, and the miso soup was served with a ramen spoon, which never happens in Japan. The dessert of mochi ice cream was taken out of boxes of the stuff that is sold in Trader Joe's, the green tea flavour of which is artificial and was unpalatable. On the other hand, I liked the intimate atmosphere of the place but the food would have to be much better to warrant another visit. Maybe the ownership/chef has changed recently but I did not find it a chowhound-worthy establishment. Has anyone else been recently?

How is VONG these days?

Someone is taking me to Vong for my birthday but I have read some not very positive reviews from past years and was wondering if anyone has been recently. Any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Torta Di La Nonna

taralucci e vino has it.

Hot Cross Bun Roundup!

I went to Rocco's yesterday on a Chowhound recommendation but found the HCB extremely dry to the point of being inedible. Maybe it was a bad day. I was happy with the cannoli though.
Sorry I cannot give more details, but my bf bought some HCB at an Italian bakery on 9th between 47th and 48th that were very moist and delicious, albeit they did not have the cinnamon and clove flavours I enjoyed when I had HCB in NZ.

Yuzu-mania

For a quick yuzu fix, go to the local Jas or Sunrise mart. They have limited edition yuzu hi-chew candies-with real Tokushima yuzu juice, they are super flavourful and yummy.

Prosperity Dumpling - closes at 6 pm now? Or closed, or what?

I wanted to go to Nyonya on Wednesday but when I got there a sign was posted saying that they were closed Tuesday and Wednesday for the Chinese New Year. Maybe the same is the case with Prosperity Dumpling...
