The "I finally cooked from my unused cookbook" thread

I use a tablespoon or so of pomegrante molasses in a big glass of Perrier with ice. Yummy! But then again, I like that sweet/tart flavor.

Topic: Ideas for a chocolate themed dinner/dessert party

I'm planning a dinner party for twelve and I'd like the focus to be on chocolate. What are some ideas for entrees, salads, and desserts. I want to use all varieties of chocolates. (milk, dark, white) I would love to hear your ideas. Thanks!

Is there anything you just can't make, no matter how hard you try? [Moved from General Topics board]

For me, it's Sweet Potatoe Pie...No matter what I do, it comes out too soft. If I cook it long enough so that it's firm, then the crust is a scary shade of BURNT!

Baking bacon vs. frying bacon

Oven all the way!!! Comes out crispy, no mess and I have the drippings to use for other dishes!

What did you make today?

For the football game, I took the leftover pork butt and sauteed onions in olive oil cooked it all down in some barbecue sauce and had pulled pork sandwiches for the boys to eat while watching football. Went for a traditional meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner added sauteed spinach on the side. I'm going to make it fall here in SouthernCal if it kills me...lol

Drinks for BBQ - besides beer...

surprisingly enough, champagne or sparkling wine makes a perfect pairing with bar-b-que.

Suggestions for Cookware purchase

gotta agree with you on this one. I LOVE my set from Sam's! I keep eyeballing the nonstick at Costco. Can't beat the price. As you said two full sets for $300.00. Takes care of everything I could possibly need in cookware.

italian fried greens

collard greens are yummy cooked this way too!

Fight night's at my house!

Hey everyone,

We're having three couples over to watch the fight on Saturday night and I'm looking for recipes. Unfortunately, the group that's coming isn't too adventurous when it comes to food; but at the same time, I'm known for laying out a nice spread. Help me chowhounders, help!

Recipes You've Never Heard of Outside Your Family

OMG...I soo had this growing up; although not with any sauce...just the kidneys! So true, they STINK when cooking, but not altogether bad when done.

Recipes You've Never Heard of Outside Your Family

A very fond Saturday morning memory is ground beef with scrambled egg with lots of ketchup. I swear the only place I've ever seen this in the "real" world is DOG FOOD. But it was soooo good!

calphalon knives

No, not at all. a friend was telling me about them. I've got a global santoku and utility knife and a set of Henkel's (the entry level set)

Need suggestions for fruit salad for 20 possibly including pomegranite

strawberries; pineapple; bananas; a little fresh squeezed lemon to keep the bananas from turning. mix with honey. This has always gotten rave reviews when I bring it to potlucks...good luck!

Is there anyone else out there...

It took me years to understand why I love cooking and hate baking! I finally figured out that baking is too "exact" which makes me crazy. I love to throw in a little more of this; a little less of that and see what happens!!! This is not something you can do with baked goods. My friends insist I'm holding out when they ask for recipes and all I provide is a list of ingredients and tell them "you have to feel it" More often than not I cook by taste and inspiration!

New Favorite Cut

Building my cookware...

hopefully, I'm not being redundant...but the mario batali dutch oven does everything the Le Crueset does at 99.00 retail...I got mine on ebay for 65.00$...they come in white; red/orange and espresso(chocolate) it has the nubs in the lid, the way the Staub cookware does! I love it...it has quickly become my go-to pot
