Pancho y Emiliano: New Mexican Place in Kensington yeah, they are closed mondays |

good food around midland/sheppard i am in this area once a week and am wondering about good eats in the area (i'm usually in a car heading to 401, so driving a bit is no problem). the place has to have veg options (went to one2 snacks last weekend but they had no veg options). any type of cuisine is fair game! thanks! |

the one time i have been there a few years ago, the food was beyond bad, and i have never been back. |

Anyone eaten at Mayettes at Danforth & Pharmacy? i would be curious to know too since i work nearby. there is also another place nearby that i am curious about.. it's been awhile since i have walked in that direction (usually i walk west towards main in search of lunch).. but i think it was a middle eastern place.. at the corner of danforth ave and danforth rd, i believe? |

me too. he won't be able to cook the way he did at his stall. |

i miss stampede's poutine :( |

just look in someone's backyard. they grow as weeds everywhere |

The Best Of The Kensington Market i think i have almost always had bad service there.. whether eating in or taking out |

The Best Of The Kensington Market i used to work right there so i have tried a lot of places! still go pretty often to grocery shop and grab a cheap eat. my faves (keeping in mind that i'm vegetarian): -almost everything at wanda's pie in the sky.. great quiche, soup, sandwiches, salads, and daily specials (i'm not a sweet tooth so haven't had their desserts much) -humitas and cheese empanadas from jumbo empanadas (i don't like their veg "jumbo empanadas" - too little filling and too much air) -empanadas from the place across from there (the one with the food stalls) -the french-caribbean sandwiches from le ti colibri are tasty but a bit too expensive for what you get which is why i rarely go there. that said, they are not very busy and i do hope they survive. -veg reuben sandwich (with cheese) and veg sausages from thomas lavery cannery. didn't like the veg banh mi enough to get it again (especially seeing as you can walk around the corner to chinatown and get a good one for 1/3rd of the price) -vegan tacos from hot beans (though i haven't been there in ages cuz there are cheaper and still tasty taco options elsewhere in the market) -tamales and the corn tortillas at pancho y emiliano (i am slowly making my way through the veg menu items there.. just posted a "review" response to another thread about the place: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/9002... )-churros from pancho's bakery -soup, buckwheat crepes and salad at hibiscus -the cosy vibe of moonbean cafe (they have decent coffee too) -tamales and pupusas from of one of the latin american grocery stores on augusta (i forget the name) -soup, daily hot meal special (only $4.99!), dips, and middle eastern sandwiches from akram's -the mushroom and cheese tacos from el trompo -the pizza and eggplant parmagiana from pizzeria Via mercanti -the coffee at i deal coffee. i last had a really good cortado -i have never tried the ka chi there, but the one on bloor has really good veg soon dubu (tofu stew). i hope the kensington market one is just as good (i keep meaning to try it) -tapas at torito (haven't been in a long time though since i tend to be in the market at lunch time and not dinner, and torito is only open for dinner) -not in kensington market per se, but just south of it on dundas is chinese traditional buns.. dumplings, dan dan noodles, "jellied bean curd" (sounds nasty but actually very cheap and delicious savoury silken tofu dish), and other tasty northern chinese dishes (beijing dishes, i think? not sure though). you can also help yourself to free fresh soymilk (chinese style with strong soybean flavour.. yum!) i'm probably missing a bunch but this is what i can remember off the top of my head... |

Pancho y Emiliano: New Mexican Place in Kensington have eaten there 2x now. excited that they have a lot of veg options! the people are very nice and earnest, and i hope they do well. the corn tortillas are very good. i assume they make them in-house. the vegetable tamale i had was also good (and was cooked in banana leaf instead of corn husks). the rajas (onion & pepper) filling for the veg taco i had wasn't that exciting (needs more flavour), but the corn tortilla made up for it. the spicy salsa wasn't too shabby. i had the chilaquiles with egg today and again, the fried tortillas (in the form of nachos) is a winner.. but the tomatillo salsa was pretty bland and too spicy for me (suffering from a stomach ache right now due to ingesting it a few hours earlier!), and the toppings were too few (supposedly has crema and cheese but i could barely detect any). churros are decent.. but the ones from pancho's bakery a few doors down are better. i plan to go back to try the other veg menu items. |

good sushi place with decent veg options? kingyo looks like a good option. excited to see they have a vegan section on their menu! is the stone bowl mushroom tofu with meat stock then (it's not in that section)? |
good sushi place with decent veg options? this might be non-existent :) but what are some places with good sushi (for a meat eater), that also has decent veg options (meaning not just boring cucumber rolls). the veg options don't have to just be sushi, or even sushi at all. downtown preferred but not essential. thanks! |

Yours Truly maturing beautifully has anyone been since the new chef arrived? |
A-ok foods (ramen by yours truly) i heard that they use pork broth for their vegetable ramen. can anyone confirm? |
yes, i went there and they only had the firmer stuff. it was def good tofu but not really as good to eat raw. i bought some though and fried it. :) i was looking for the soft stuff that the japanese serve raw with just a bit of soy sauce and green onion. |
damn, sanko (closer to me) ran out and said their tofu supplier's machine is broken and they are waiting for parts from japan.. so they won't have any for at least another week. i need it for tomorrow! will trek to galleria. is it this stuff? (i.e. how will i know which tofu it is, as i imagine they might have a selection) i want the nice fresh, soft stuff for eating raw... |

Thomas Lavers Cannery Deli, Kensington tried the italian sausage the other day. very tasty! possibly the best veg sausage i have ever tried (aside from linda mccartney brand breakfast sausages from the UK which i love.. but they are not available here in canada) |
Thomas Lavers Cannery Deli, Kensington tried the vegan banh mi but banh mi boys and the cheap chinatown banh mi shops are better, and more worth the price (this one is $7.. the pickles were a bit too wet or something and made my bread a bit soggy on the inside.. i couldn't eat it till 30 min after i bought it and found soggy bread) reuben all the way! |
Thomas Lavers Cannery Deli, Kensington i personally really enjoyed the vegan reuben. i had it vegetarian though with cheese. thought the sauce was delish.. the fake meat wasn't bad, the fillings were good, as was the bread. will def be back for more! |

Where is the best Mexican in Toronto? honestly, you cannot get more authentic than the food at maizal. this is real mexican food.. closest to what i ate on the street in mexico. what about it looks vile? it's just veggies of your choice from their selection, cheese, corn tortillas, salsa...? |
good eating spot for Tuesday night.. not too loud? it was.. i make a pretty good cupid if i do say so myself ;) enjoy next tuesday! btw, food-wise, i prefer la carnita (cheaper too), but atmosphere-wise, i prefer playa cabana. it was louder at la carnita too. |
is there anything good down there around york and king? i sometimes end up around there for doctor's appointment, but i always get lost in the path, so i don't venture down there too much. |
weird but oh so good... :) |
Where is the best Mexican in Toronto? has anyone mentioned maizal yet? mostly quesdaillas, but closest to what i had in mexico on the street! actually, their tortillas are even better as they grind their own corn by hand every morning to begin the process of making them.. amazing! |

Visiting GTA Asian style - in search of Good food :) quite a lot of indian places do offer a "thali" (plate) option.. especially in little india.. but the food isn't as good from some of these places, imho. i do like some of the dishes at the south indian place on bloor just east of lansdowne though.. forget the name of the place now. their dosa is pretty decent too. never heard of copper chimney before so it's now on my list.. thanks, you two! |

Visiting GTA Asian style - in search of Good food :) my fave place that i tried in london was rasa (the veg one) in stoke newington. i know that type of cuisine is rather different (their own twist on keralan food) but it was delish! there was also a tiny place in south london near southbank university that i really liked.. indian food by a family from kenya or something like that.. i forget the name of the place though as it's been ages! i haven't been back since 2003 though! |

Visiting GTA Asian style - in search of Good food :) aw, that is too bad about the indigestion. i have tried maroli and i thought it was pretty good, but i still prefer banjara. |
